Yes, they can. They have a studio that can potentially do it (Ninja Theory). It's just Phil Spencer needs to give studios more patience and money to make them good.

Several studios could create a story like The Last of Us, it's nowhere near as deep and sophisticated as people wanna believe. But Naughty Dog is at the top of the craft when it comes to presentation, and i can't see any Microsoft studio being able to combine those 2 qualities the same way Naughty Dog do.

Yeah... it sounds like they're aiming to make The Initiative their "premier" studio, like Naughty Dog with Sony (not taking anything away from MS's other studios though - they could end up being the "premier" studio). Like I said before though, if Ninja Theory can make a masterpiece like Hellblade with a small budget and hardly any staff, imagine what they can do with MS's backing!

As you can see in the new trailer , the animations look 2 gen ahead of games like Tomb raider, Days gone ....

Just go read the new new tech they using for part 2 , the only team can have a chance with Naughty Dog is Rockstar. But right now with those new techniques like motion matching , muscle deformation .... Naughty dog is leading the gaming industry.

Making a game like TLOU isn’t something that happens over night, it’s something that takes a lot of time and effort over the years. ND grew gradually to the position they are now. It takes years to accumulate the kind of talent ND has accumulated.

Let MS make game that is not a flop first (other than racing.) before we talking about something as great as TLOU.

No, but to be fair, no other studio can, either. Naughty Dog creates their own. Tools from Basic to do some of the stuff they do. They are meticulous to a maniacal degree to get the results they do.

Now I'm actually interested if they can make a TLoU or Survival Horror in Gears universe; you're just a regular mook not a soldier.

Enemies are fewer but encounters are far more intense.

Not much dialogue but make the cutscenes impactful.

Less cutscenes but more enemy variety and verticality.

More solo than partner ai experience but still plenty enough moments for the partner ai extras.

Might be some nice money from the current trend of movie games selling okay and they now have a lot of studios.

Pepper in some MT and MS might reap more money if they're more careful with the MT.

Why need TLOU when we already got some amazing games like State of decay 2 , Gears of war 4, Sea of thieves ....

Well, xbone head did bought tomb raider exclusivity just to say they have uncharted on xbone. So yeah, I can see xbox spending big money on an uncharted/tlou too. Will it reach tlou level of greatness? I doubt the talents but they can try.

Another thing that we need to understand about xbox is they have cancelled big projects before. Fable legends and halo mmo by esemble both reach $75-90m dev cost before cancelled. Them making tlou like game meant xbox does take risk and can cancel a game if it did not reach expectation

Xbox has been around for 17 years and there has yet to be a a single game even coming close to the amazingness of TLOU.

That will never change. Microsoft would rather stick with halo/Gears/Forza than put any actual effort into great games.

I think Gallaghers new studio is best equipped to create a masterpiece like the last of us. He was in charge of the tomb raider reboot which was an excellent game in my opinion and got me back into the genre.

Its not that Sony can consistently do it with anyone but ND. They are just that good. Its similar to how no console shooter was as consistent as Bungie's/MS;s Halo.

Of course, Microsoft can make a game like The Last of US, Any developer can make a strong story-based single player game.

Naughty Dog is not special, they just got lucky.

Gears seems starting to first be their Uncharted 4. I have a feeling it'll be more vertical in design and more character driven than past Gears but that's bad judgement from me from 1 trailer. Presentation wise closer to UC4 while maintaining the core gameplay so it's won't be as organic and fluid as far as combat design (lots of uneven surfaces, agility, verticality, etc.) and more of a traditional cover shooter.

It can definitely be a coincidence but I seriously think MS will be invested to slowly incorporate the "muh movie games" into their IPs while still hopefully improving their GaaS and MP systems.

Even with their GaaS and MP systems, Sony's been dominating with their SPs which is more important for investors thanks to sales, trends and mindshare than any critcal thinking via dismantling Sony's basic "gameplay" o pretentious presentation.

I'm not sure but I think MS' got the AAA racing on lockdown as far as Sony vs MS is concerned specially thanks to the speed out output though I haven't checked the sales.

I am honestly excited if MS really does follow Sony's better received games thanks to being "cinematic" as I like these games and will definitely make me buy an XB2. Well, if we still have rentals by then, otherwise PC for me.

If Microsoft has the right developer and the right talent, it can.

The game would have to have a major focus on online multiplayer and be easy enough to develop a sequel to show at E3 every-other year. Using the power of the cloud, the game would be able to instantly track how many multiplayer hours you have played AND number of bullets fired.

They are putting together the talent to maybe do so. ND quality is tough though. If TLOU 2 captures that e3 demo the problem is the quality bar is being raised so high that it got TR dev shook.

On a more serious note, I have a feeling the XB2 will have a launch window title AAA that uses cloud AI, specially if Investors overlook the clouded.. nvm.. the first failure to launch of cloud destruction crackdown 3 early this gen.

I'd rather they make a game like Witcher 3, Skyrim, Divinity, DOom4, or Deus Ex 1 or 3......not some movie game.
