thats what xbox haters said Last Gen.:|

its not gonna happen, microsoft is in it to win it.

Subcritical

yeah losing 1.5 billion dollars..and not makin a penny is winning..lol...and the xbox was dead last gen .ps2 murder it.. whats goin to bite microsoft in the butt is the million of defective hardware out there...ill be playin my ps3 game while lemming is repairing their 360 for the 10th times..

last gen ps2 won because it came out much earlier and had a pre installed userbase... the xbox had superiour hardware and good games but the ps2 outsold it... so this gen time is to repeat itslef with the superiour hardware ps3 losing how xbox lost last gen.... time is repeating itself in microsofts favor

You call the Xbox 360 superior hardware? You can't be serious. Microsoft has unleashed the most unreliable console ever produced and you call it, "superior"?

Wow.

Unfortunately for all gamers, Microsoft will not pull the plug on the Xbox. They have a long term agenda of trying to control the entire gaming and home entertainment industry. Whether or not they succeed still remains to be seen.

But because of a pathetic andleaderless elected US government, which fails to represent the people of the US.A government whose purposehas been altered andbought out by special interests and corporate greed, has allowed Microsoft's illegal business practices to continue unchecked. Microsofts vastreservoir of cash has allowed them to buy out developers, asthey slowly subvert the gaming industry into their strategy of complete market control. There will be no free market and competition. Gaming will be more expensive with less innovation.

So I guess you hate EA as well! and what about Sony? didn't they muscle out Saga the same way?

I think the OT hasn't been around this industry for very long.

sony and ms are not fighting for gaming consoles. they're fighting for the set top box that will rule the livingroom for the next 50 years....

and with the 360 being the #1 console that can first step into this role, MS' chances are looking much brighter than sony's...

the xbox lost 4 billion in 4 years... the ps3 lost 2 billion in 6 MONTHS...

do the math...:)

Mystery_Writer

the math says 4 > 2

you need to complete the formula..;)

if sony lost 2 billion in 6 months, how much will they lose at the current rate in 4 years..;)

d'oh!!!!

that's just assumption.

anyone can assume. E.g. Microsoft lost 1 bill last month with the extended warrenty. If they continue losing 1 bill every month .... do the math.

so, unless you bring up a valid formula, the math still stands at 4 > 2 :P

i'll expect a nice apology and a massive "i've been self owned" at the end of fiscal 07...;)

MS didn't lose 1 billion in one month...

and speaking of "assumptions", you're assuming MS "lost" 4 billion on the xbox, even when Seamus Blackley and Robbie Bach stated, before the launch of the original xbox, that ms was prepared to invest upwards of 4 billion to create an installed userbase...

they did..to the tune of 2nd place in the console wars with NO userbase to build upon...

you need to learn the difference between losses and investments... as all cows do..;)

They are in for the long haul in my opinion simply for the fact they dont want to give up the entertainment unit in the living room.

They may not want to but sooner or latter their stock holders may make them. But that does not look like that will happen any time soon. Has long has they do not lose any more money.

I agree. As long as Bill Gates still supports the Xbox line, then I think the stockholders won't demand a change. I think this is why MS is pushing soooo hard for the games division to turn a profit. They have to keep the stockholders and Board of Trustees happy. It doesn't hurt that the rest of MS is able to turn a huge profit. Probably helps to lessen the anger towards the gaming division. If they can turn a profit, then I'd say that they are in it for the long haul (at least in the next gen after the 360).

If they pull out after the 360, then I'll just go buy the best gaming console available after that. I have to allegience to MS as a company- I just like the 360 and the games that I can play on it.

There isn't going to be a PS4 or Xbox 3 next time around, I think that's pretty obvious. I don't think MS is going to invest in another console, but I do think they are going to come out with a media center for the living room, including HD content over IPTV. If you ask me, the Xbox is just an experiment for their overall gameplan anyway. MS's main reason in releasing the Xbox was to slow down the competition when it comes living room entertainment, and after this generation, I expect MS to fade away from the gaming business. There is no way a publicly held company like MS is going to maintain the status quo and continue loosing billions of dollars on their console expenditure. It's going to come to an end, and even the hardest fanboys are going to have to come to grips with this.

The good news is, who cares. All the same IP's that gamers have grown to love will still be around making games. Afterall, does it really matter what's playing your favorite game?

as a MS sharholder, i have no problem (as anyone else i've talked to) with MS strategy...

we understand it's an investment and ms can absorb a few billion dollars....whereas sony really can't...;)
