improvement is always nice, I would like to see more colors, other then Rare's stuff tbh a lot of games this gen have been real murky cuz it adds a "realism" effect. WHich I like, but after a while it gets a bit dull.
I'd rather have my games running at 60 FPS with 1,000 enemies on screen without framerate issues more than a graphics update.
Stablility is key, although i do find that 30-40 FPS can be a good visual compromise since 60FPS on Crysis or Clear Sky means slashing visual fidelity to all hell.I'd rather have my games running at 60 FPS with 1,000 enemies on screen without framerate issues more than a graphics update.

next generation, they're definately going to improve graphics. Its also gonna allow for games to do more interactions (more memory), thus not as big limitation.

this isnt exactly set in stone. graphics might not improve or at least not as much as they have in past gens. graphics is one of the reasons why game development costs have gone up so much. improving them further only increases them more. $500 launch consoles? try $600 or 700.
of course strictly speaking from a console perspective
No. I'd like to see development tech catch up first.
HD graphics are nice, but the production values, dev cycles, and console builds are all suffering because companies took a huge leap into HD fairly early.
For most open world games, sure. They could do with a bit more juice under the hood.Next-Gen-TecI think Assassin's Creed looks damn good right now. On-topic: If development time is incressing due to graphics, I'd say no. To be honest Killzone 2 is the best looking console game I've played and I hated it.. So graphics is not that important to me... of course graphics will be improved apon (unless Microsoft and Sony goes Wii on us) but it seems the better the game looks, the less content it has to make it a good game and until reviewers start pointing this out, it will only get worse.

That has loading. I'm talking games like GTA, Prototype, etc. They look pretty good, but could do with a bit more.
As long as consoles don't cost $500 and $600 and games don't cost a cent over $60. I do want graphics to improve. We all think we're at the pinnacle of graphics on consoles. Not even close. Games barely run in 720p. And a lot of games have less than desirable textures and physics.
Until we get a GTA that looks as good as crysis and runs in real 1080p at 60fps, I won't be 100% satisfied.
You could say I'd just want games to run in 2160p after that but I think the difference between 2160p and 1080p will be less than from 720p to 1080p (which already isn't very big). Especially on screen sizes that 90% of people have. (as in, less than 60 inches)
i dont care about graphics that much, i would much rather storyline and gameplay to be much more improved over graphics any day of the week.

AC1 had big open citys where you would kill anyone (without penalties at the end) and do anything...Are you saying it loads to and from cities?

Then I'll be happy. munu9I dont think we have to worry about a $500 console next gen. MS upgraded the xbox tech to top of the line (at the time) in 4 years for the 360; this was enough to be a decent gen leap in terms of graphics. If consoles arnt released until 2011-2012 they can use the top of the line hardware from the end of 2009 or 2010 and have the same amount of graphical difference as they did when going from the xbox to the 360. This is because they are using tech from about the same differences in time. Meaning that the NextBox and PS4 could have 'next gen' grphics while saving money since they are using a year or 2 old hardware in their system. So I think that there will be a $400 standard true 'nextgen' console........next gen. This is all only valid if they really do wait until 2011-2012 for new consoles though.
I'm very eager to see what nvidia and ATI have for us with their new GPGPU's, cuda ( parallel programming) and physx
I was wondering if you want graphics ti improve because to me I don't really care because the graphics are good right now...well maybe the next nintendo system can use a graphical upgrade but that's really it. What do you think?Ryu_8023If it means having to pay more for games, then no.
No! I want games to increase in size and difficulty.
Burning-Sludge
agreed, i dont want to pay 60+usd for a game that last 7 hours, with the exception of having to go back and collect trophies or acheivements. id rather games be 12+ hours long and a little more challenging. I know it takes alot to do graphics, but cmon, i shouldnt be able to beat a game in 5 hours, *cough* MSG4 *cough*
longer gameplay. Even some n64 games like donkey kong 64, or banjo 64 are still fun. Those games lasted a while. I think Fallout 3 is going in the right direction as well.
On a sidenote: graphics will always continue to improve. The better and newer the technology, the better the system can handle (in terms of graphics, interactions, etc). This wont make the game last longer, but make it better atleast. Also, i agree with most people that the prices of games are getting too high. I mean it takes like max 5$ to manufacture and ship one game. i think a good price would be 40 - 60$ no more. I hate how games are like 69.99 and above.
No we want them to get worse...:?
I welcome improvements but i think we are fine where we stand graphically speaking. Plus, it depends on the developer and game not gaming in general for graphics to improve/slip.

If they released that for XBLA it would be amazing.
Why would a Nintendo IP release on XBLA...?
I'd be VERY dissapointed if graphics just 'stopped getting better' next gen. Graphics should always be evolving.
I Agree, then again if they dd just stop dead i would never need to upgrade my PC ever again since i can pretty much max everything out there.I'd be VERY dissapointed if graphics just 'stopped getting better' next gen. Graphics should always be evolving.
