It's very similar. Low number of units combined with lack of big titles (except for Resistance) for the launch sounds a lot like the PS2.

Nah I have to disagree with both of you. On the PS2 era Sony had to face a competitor wich was already beaten by alot of reasons, tho some still find that the fault for its downfall was Sony's fault wich was not. Sony never had such a fierce competition in numbers in comparison to its rivals like this, perhaps ever and this is preatty much happening right now only in the double department.
Most of the developers that made exclusive content on the PS brand (One of their biggest strength's) are actually taking a second look at Sonys competitors. Sony is not the only one leading and the one deciding on the price arrangements for alot of reasons as well.
Their consoles are actually on store shelves preatty much everywhere, while their competitors are not in the same situation(or so I've heard, going with the gossip). People think that alot of things will go for the better in the end, but can you really give me a good reason on why they would be enjoying the exact same market share from the last generation, in comparison with the competition this generation without using the name of the brand as a reason?
Right now IMO as it stands, nothing is certain for Sony or any of the other competitors in this console wars and I can't see any good reason's for certainty's of any kind.

Yes I hope Sony fails because I hate what they did to gaming. In the Snes and Genesis days, the games were great, challenging, and the concentration was on gameplay. When the playstations came, everybody started making games and very few of the games were good, but sucky games became popular and got good reviews. Basically, Sony killed originality. If Sony wins this war, its reign of suckiness will continue.
Oh and I also forgot the constant lying to customers and stealing competitors' ideas.
So then we go from a 3 console race to a 2 console race. Remeber guys, more competition is only helping you. If Sony dies what competition does M$ have anymore? The wii? Nintendo took their system in a completely new direction. M$ would have no competition therefor would not have to really improve on anything ever again, they will just keep slightly upgrading and offering half-assed products because there is nothing else on the market.

I don't really care. But I guess if I had to pick, I'd hope they succeed so that my PS3 purchase wasn't a waste. Not that it'd really be waste since I use it as a Blu-Ray player, but it'd be nice to have some good games.

i hope xbox fails though. not only am i fed up with their os but i will never forgive them for red circle of death which i have felt the pain of 2 times. while ive never had a problem on what some of you claim is an "poorly made", "inferior product". also when my 360 worked i was pretty disgusted with the fact that i couldnt let my 14 year old sister, who is awesome at fps, play on live because too many 30-somthing year old perverts would make her cry.
I dont really want ps3 to fail -.- What I do want is for sony to stop being so damn arrogant! They need to wise up, if ps3 failing humbles them and helps them to create a great ps4, then id be happy to let them lose. Yet if ps3 dies and sony gives up on games, well then that would be bad -.-.

PS1 and PS2 were how much?? Xbox wasn't established when PS1/2 came out either. X360 is also taking away exclusives from Sony and it's a cheaper console with superior online and probably hardware as well. Add the fact that Sony is arrogant, greedy, liars and of course i want to see them lose.
I'm going to stay indifferent. Why? Becuase I don't know how the economy of gaming will go if Sony were todrop out now after all of the influence that they have brought to the industry. Where would the exclusives go. Would the Dev.s become third party or get gobbled up by N or MS? People would start selling PS3s on e-bay like stocks on black monday. The other part of me wants them to crash so hard that they couldn't make another lie to a consumer again without feeling guilty for each and everyone that they have told throughout their gaming history. I'm getting sick of it. So, take it how you want it.
I don't want them to fail, I just think they need to learn a lesson. And what better way is there, than for them to lose their throne? If they end up winning this gen, they probably won't learn from their mistakes considering they immense arrogance.
