BioWare doesn't deserve to be on that list anymore. Not after Mass Effect.
Personal opinion = fact? The rest of the gaming world doesn't agree with you. :(
I do...
KOTOR put Bioware on the map, and ever since they have had a hard time doing anything else but KOTOR. Mass Effect was incredible... but for all the wrong reasons imo. I real amazing developer doesn't just put things in just to add content (the extra planets of ME), but they will make everything there for a purpose. Or at least fun to play
... >_>
KOTOR exposed Bioware to a larger audience, but it's a stretch to say that it put them on the map. Considering the massive popularity of NWN before KOTOR, and the Baldur's Gate series is widely considered the premier single player CRPG franchise.I haven't played Mass Effect yet.
No, that would be Nintendo. They saved gaming and practically defined (or define) it.Video_Game_King
They saved the NA market, in Japan gaming was alive and computer gaming actually got more popular. (mostly in Europe)

Ooooo, here we go, for your historical reference, Jesus did actually exist. Religious discussion done.
I have a question on Insomniacs status with Sony is it like Bungie Microsoft or.....?
I'd say Blizzard is the most Jesus like, with the Holy Trinity of Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo. Of course comparing something as mundane as a software developer to a religious figure is bound to upset people TC.
Runner up would be Nintendo, but I'd say they lose out to Blizzard because their quality control isn't as good, and they release a lot of shovelware with the good.

If your going to make such claims as Jesus existed, prove it. All accounts I have read about were hearsay accounts. I would be interested in seeing something more concrete.
It's pretty much the same, I believe.

I still don't understand why you hate Mass Effect so much... It's certainly better than Jade Empire anyway.I don't hate it, but I do think it's massively overrated. The game is incredibly unpolished from a technical perspective (nothing major, just a whole lot of tiny glitches that add up), it has huge gameplay flaws and missteps from a design perspective (user-unfriendly inventory system, entirely superfluous side missions, sub-par driving controls), and its story is a virtual carbon copy of a previous high-profile title (Star Control 3 has the exact same storyline; not even Halo can claim to have stolen its entire story), yet people are praising it to high heaven like it's the second coming of RPGs.
If Mass Effect is indeed better than Jade Empire, then BioWare's decline has been going on for a lot longer than I thought (I only re-entered console gaming this gen).

Jesus didn't even exist to begin with! But that's for OT
For some reason, I thought I had sensed sarcasm in the thread title...
They are a very hard working Developer. THey were able to create a Sequel to one of their games (resistence) in jsut about a years time of the originals release. THere realeses have also been some of the best of the best this gen. black_awpN1
i hate to break it to u but resistance 2 isnt out yet, considering the first was a launch title it came out in november of 2006, and since resistance 2 still doesnt have a release date i dont know what your'e talking about. It will prob come out towards the end of the year which will be 2 years of development time, pretty standard for a sequal.
Valve, along with Half Life, is horribly overrated to the point where I come into a discussion, and all I see is Valve's infinite praise. As if the Half Life storyline wasn't done before, and as if Portal and Team Fortress were revolutionary.
Insomniac is okay, but I'm not into their games that much. R&C is a fine franchise, and so is Resistance, but to me, they're okay at best. I'm just into different types of games, and because Half Life/Resistance aren't really my cup of tea, I can't dive into those games with enthusiasm.
I played the Orange Box to see what all the hype was about, and to be honest, people are overrating it just like they did with Bioshock, a great game, but massively overrated as well. But, Insomniac is a competent developer; just because I'm not into their games doesn't mean I'll discount them. Developers can lose their steps sometimes, which is why I hardly praise anyone individual development team; I praise the game they make. Just because they make one good game, doesn't mean more will follow.

Cerberus_Legion
did you play Half-Life when it was released 10 years ago? when it came out, it was, in fact, revolutionary. Portal nears the point of being revolutionary with its first-person puzzle solving using portals concept. Team Fortress 2 isn't revolutionary, but it's a solid change of pace from what most developers are pumping out. Then there's the Source engine, which was one of the first highly realistic physics engines.
Valve and Half-Life are not overrated. They aren't perfect, but they're still great.
Sorry, Rare is my Messiah.
Nice try though.

Almost didn't recognize your with a change of avatar lol.
I'd have to say Nintendo, Blizzard, Rare, and a whole load of devs are better than insomiac.

Nintendo, Bungie, Infinity Ward.
LOL @ bungie and IW. Not saying they make bad games, but I only know them for sequels of the same game over and over.
Myth and Marathon say hi.
HECK YES! Insomniac works wonders! Ratchet and Clank is their best!
Of course, being a Christian myself, I must agree with one poster that Jesus is far better than any game developer. His Father developed the universe!

I second that motion!
Furthermore, I would like to call the question.

Link to game that Half Life stole its story from?
Link to game from which Portal stole its concept/gameplay/idea from?

fact - insomniac failed to make an AAA game last year
JB730
Both Resistance and Ratchet and Clank are AAA titles. Blah Blah they didn't get AAA over here, but the majority of reviewers gave both these games AAA scores.
IGN gave both these games AAA and they are definately a lot more respectable site than gamespot.
If you try to say Insomniac is not one of the best developers so far this gen then you are just a blind fanboy. Im not saying they are the best, but definately one of the best as far as this gen goes. Less than 3 years and if Resistance 2 ends up being as good as they are planning will be their third AAA in less than 3 years.

Blah blah blah Resistance and R&C still aernt AAAs because they failed to get 9.0 or above. Don't fill your head with these delusions of AAAEs, because they don't exist. They are just mirages. PS3 has NO AAAEs.
Blizzard is the god of game developers...

Blizzard making 1 every 3-4 years not 1 :P
That one game they make every 3-4 years revolutionizes the entire genre it belongs to for the next 3-4 years until their next game comes out. I'd say that's a damn sight more impressive of an accomplishment than turning out one good but otherwise inconsequential game every year.

1) ANY doubt that ANY of the BIG companies that are out there like Capcom (example) if they spend 4 year for a single game couldnt be revolutionary?Ibet 90%that will be. If not revolutionary a sure AAAA
2)Revolutionize a genre ok.Agree... What about companies like Capcom or Konami that made a whole NEW genre. Like resident evil for example.Or metal gear? Not to mention what genres revolutions we have seen from these companies thru the years (SF2 for example)Upon their games many other companies made similar games? Any doubt for that?
3)How many well known worldwide characters have been created by Blizzard? Dont forget that Blizzard is a PC game maker.Except some characters from Warcraft like Illidan or Warden (that is a rip off of warhammer lore),what character you remember from any other game of blizz? Barbarian ?
4)What if Blizzard in 4 years was making more or equal games(quantity of good games) like Capcom or Konami ? Would be that great all of them?
5) I loved Diablo and Starcraft no doubt well done games, but 1 game every 3 or more years doesnt make you big company even if its AAAA titles. IMO

1) Oh, sure. Put enough effort into any game, and it has a good potential to be revolutionary. But has any other dev company done it with Blizzard's regularity? Blizzard's continually revolutionized every genre they've made a game for since the first WarCraft. That's a flawless record fourteen years long. Even Nintendo can't claim that.
2) Capcom didn't invent survival horror. Ever heard of Alone in the Dark? Predates Resident Evil by four years, made by Atari. I'm sure there are other examples. RE only popularized it. And Metal Gear didn't invent stealth games, either. Castle Wolfenstein (not Wolfenstein 3D) in 1981 was probably the first stealth game. You give too much credit to where it's due. If Capcom and Konami invented survival horror and stealth, then Blizzard invented the dungeon crawl hack'n'slash genre with Diablo. (They probably didn't, but since what you consider to be "invention" apparently is "popularization," then I can claim the same.)
3) Who cares about this? Blizzard games involve a cast of dozens, all of them as prominent as the next. They make story-centric games, not character-centric games. Games like MGS, Halo, Mario, and Zelda all have a central hero to identify with. Except for Diablo 1 and 2, Blizzard games don't, and even with Diablo the hero is a nameless generic character. But everyone remembers Blizzard's GAMEPLAY. And in the world of GAMING, that's a much greater feat.
4) Blizzard is a much smaller company than Capcom or Konami.
5) I never said "big company." I said (or rather, I meant) "best developers." That's a qualification of the company's skill, not its production volume.

Wake up and learn some history. Mass Effect represents a huge decline in BioWare's quality. It's buggy, unpolished, and the side missions are extremely, extremely tedious. There's a HELL of a lot that can be improved in Mass Effect. You can't say the same about any of Blizzard's or Valve's games. Hence, BioWare doesn't deserve to be listed with them.

what do you mean jesus of game developers?
does that mean that they are ancient , dead and decomposed somewhere? or even a myth, a fake entity told to people to give them hope?
now i am being close minded and disregarding your religion but think about writing the jesus of game developers? what is that supposed to mean to people whio aren't christian?
sorry to start a religion war, but the universe dosn't revolve around christianity...
I mean, I am blown away at their ability to make 1, if not more then 1 AAA game every year.
How do they do it?
APOLLOCJD
If the rumors are true about SP being 5 1/2 hours I really dont think Rfom2 will be a AAA game,I'm leaning towards to buying it but maybe for the MP only but I'm sure everyone else is pretty sick and tired of short games atm.
