Not really. Where else can I get my Truck Simulator fix at?
Honestly, as a pc gamer i agree. While it still is the best platform game wise, my biggest issue is with exclusives. There are few and far between and none of them generate the same level of excitment as back in the good old days.
I mostly play my preferred genre, strategy games.

Define strategy game? The Rise and Fall add-on for Civ 6 which released is huge. Spellforce 3 is huge. Divinity: original Sin 2 is huge. And those are just the 3 first strategic games from the past half year I remember. The upcomming surviving Mars looks awesome too, but isn't exclusive - it will be best played on PC for sure though.

Divinity OS 2 is amazing. I haven't bought the Civ 6 expansion yet.

This is a statement that applies to gaming in general. Games generating the excitement of MGS2? Perfect Dark? Halo 2? Ninja Gaiden? Fable? RE4? Not for the past decade or more.

when you say exclusives do you mean console exclusives?
because although not done intentionally, PC has a TON of exclusives. So I am just not following what you are saying
Console Beating GPU’s are $600+
DDR4 is overpriced
It’s best games of past year are decade old console ports
Poor HDR Support

depends on who you are and what kind of games you like. For me this is the best era in gaming ever and I started playing in 1980 and its all happening on the PC.
Here is my list again (perhaps more digestible) I encourage people to look into them (not just one). The vast majority of them are PC only and they are all friggin fanstastic and the list is long. I also would add if you dont want to look into them then that means you are ok with the current gaming market as it is.
Space Engineers,Medieval Engineers,7 Days to Die,Imperium Galactic Survival,The Forest,Subnautica,Life is Feudal,Stranded Deep,From the Depths,Kerbal Space Program,StarMade,Another Brick in the Mall,Elite Dangerous,Cities Skylines,Planet Coaster,Kenshi,RimWorld,Hospitalize,Kingdoms,Wurm Unlimited,My Summer Car,Banished,Out of Reach, Transportation Fever

Agreed, there is no shortage of good games for PC and especially exclusives / niche genres. That's not his position though.
His argument is that we don't have prolific titles like XWing, Stalker, and HL2. This is a moot point and no refutation is required on the basis that consoles don't generate prolific titles of generations past either. I don't see how PC games "suck" relative to games on any other platform.

what that really means is we dont have a highly marketed uber game.
in many cases the games that are labeled as these absolutely amazing games really are not amazing when looking at them even remotely somewhat kinda a bit objective. you can still even be subjective about it and see a RADICAL disconnect between the hype of what is sold vs what the game actually is.
ironically the games you are calling niche are only niche because they do not have a huge marketing budget telling the masses that they are supposed to like them.
product loyality and marketing is extremely effective on a lot of people and they are not even aware of it.
not sure if what I am saying makes sense but it does to me
Idunno, if PC gaming sucks, and you're tired of indie stuff, doesn't that sort of mean all gaming sucks? There really are not that many AAA exclusives to PC and if you discount indie stuff, well...
But, to answer your questions, some PC titles I've enjoyed recently are:
Warhammer: Total War 1/2
DCS series of flight simulations
Elite: Dangerous
Civilization VI
Prison Architect
Divinity: Original Sin 1/2
Stellaris
World of Warcraft
Cities: Skylines
Kingdoms and Castles
--------------
So, no, PC gaming does not suck right now. It's only getting better and better.
And if you are judging your gaming experience by the quality of your hardware (i.e. video cards are prohibitively expensive), you're doing it wrong. PC gaming is first and foremost about the games.
So why should i buy a console? when every game runs and play better on PC?
How's Horizon, BOTW, mario, etc on your pc?
A few exclusive games per decade is hardly a reason to feel left out of console gaming lol. I mean, let's look at PS4: first it was The Last Guardian, which no one talks about anymore. Then it was Uncharted 4 after literally years of way too much hype, and no one talks about it anymore (probably b/c it was a disappointment). Then it was Horizon Zero Dawn which is the one game that actually looked genuinely good, and, well, people still talk about it so that's nice.
What about Nintendo? Breath of the Wild, and...? And that's not a criticism, btw, I think Nintendo makes great products it just seems a little starved for titles.
Meanwhile, on PC, there are literally hundreds of amazing games coming out, it would be tough to talk about just one. And let's not forget that PC is, for the most part, 100% backwards compatible for decades of games, so while you all are buying 60-dollar remasters I'm just playing my old copies with visual mods.
You asked where is X-Wing and Tie Fighter? Why, they're installed on my PC! So is Descent: Freespace 2, Freelancer, Tachyon: The Fringe (Bruce Campbell voiceacting a space sim!? Sign me up), X3, and a few other classics.
Tons of alpha/beta games that are all the same. Video card prices that are stupid high because of mining.
Where are our x-wing vs tie fighter, STALKER, half life 2 level type games?
I love indies, but shit it's getting old.
Only few really good PC games to come out lately is PUGB which is like 50 other games out there, Divinity II, and civ 6.
these titles are all friggin fantastic. WAY better then what I have played before Early Access came about
Just games i have played that I like
Space EngineersMedieval Engineers
7 Days to Die
Imperium Galactic Survival
The Forest
Subnautica
Life is Feudal
Stranded Deep
From the Depths
Kerbal Space Program
StarMade
Another Brick in the Mall
Elite Dangerous
Cities Skylines
Planet Coaster
Kenshi
RimWorld
Hospitalize
Kingdoms
Wurm Unlimited
My Summer Car
Banished
Out of Reach
Nice list!
Yeah, I was going to say that if you're into sim games, strategy games, flight games, driving games, PC is pretty much the only way to go. The only real complaint I had for a while was lack of platformers, but PC is really catching up in that area lately as well. There's occasionally a game like Uncharted or Spider-Man that's console exclusive where I just go "argh, I wish I had that," but it's not enough to make me plop down $400 on an underpowered rig that makes you pay for multiplayer and jacks up game and peripheral prices to high heaven. Nintendo's an exception, but that's only because A) its exclusive titles are amazing and B) it does something unique with its design. Plus at that price point it makes more sense to own that and a PC. Buying a $300 console for all the games Nintendo is going to release makes sense, buying a $400 console that's almost identical to your PC for one or two great games doesn't.

I think age may be the defining factor on this issue. I can't remember the last time I was excited for a game as I would have been when I was a kid/teenager.

forgot building and crafting games.
a lot of this has to do with marketing and product loyality
Other than the card and RAM prices, I couldn't disagree more. It's a great time to be a PC gamer. 90% of the great games on consoles are on PC now as well, PLUS the big games that only exist or are best played on PC, PLUS the vast majority of indies. It's by far the largest and most diverse library, even when we ignore BC to the beginning of time. Only way I can see people bitching about the current PC games situation (other than card and RAM prices) is if they ALSO hate the current situation on PS or XBox - that is, they're the "gaming sux these days" gamer demographic.

Maybe i'm just getting old then :D
A large chunk of the money put into gaming purchases in the last decade is being pissed away by a handful of out of touch greedy corporates trying as hard as possible to farm idiots.
This results in a big gap in the middle ground and the top end being garbage.
Esports also took a large chunk of attention and talent away from making good games.
The only light is IP camped old favourites are slowly being replaced by new startups that make it here and there, and a huge indie push and the small group of developers that did make it that don't flood their games with loot box crap and cut content microtransactions.
gaming in general sucks
the triple A industry needs to crash
see but for some of use we think its extreemly good time for gaming.
in fact I personally have been gaming since 1980 (I am old) and I think this is the best era ever, but ZERO of it is happening the in AAA market
games wise it continues to pootle along nicely. my backlog is already big enough but if i wanted i could raid my wishlist.
hardware wise its not great at the moment though. things are much better on the CPU front due to some actual competition now which is great to see. you get quite a bit more bang for your buck. and its great to have more choice.
but GPU and ram prices leave a very bitter after taste. the price of GPUs is insane. i bought an RX 580 4GB for 270 euros (which was already more than it should be) and since then its shot up again to around 450.

It's is. However i wish we got the old days modding community's back.
The best area in my opinion was where mods where driving, when we had warcraft 3 / quake 3 arena, half life. Insane modding scene with loads and loads of full blown games that came out of that.
Wanted to play a actual good pokemon pvp game, there you go warcraft 3 modding, pokemon world was amazing.
Wanted to play lord of the rings, wall defender game = warcraft 3 mod
Wanted to play the best shooter ever created, half life mod.
Wanted to play a death match of dragonball z with transforming / summon dragon everything included vs loads of other people, half life 3 / warcraft 3 provided it.
Wanted to play league of legends, dota mod in warcaft had that for you.
Wanted to play overwatch, half life warcraft mod was there for you.
Wanted to get a game maker that was extremely easy to build games in? warcraft 3 mod tools was there for you.
So so so many more mods in warcraft 3 / quake 3 / half life that made appearances. That all played onto topics that where relevent at that time.
Sadly modding scene died out mostly because of yearly refresh of endless recycle concent and greedy company's like steam trying there hardest to work the modding team out of pc gaming.
However with the scope of games and free to play games + emulation. PC gaming today has obviously been better then ever before.

sorry but again, there is far more modding going on now then ever before and by a HUGE amount and it started just a few years ago.
I encourage you to look at my list above
PC has access to the best version of every multiplat (best graphics and performance + mods). Almost every PS4 and every single X1 game gets a PC release.
PC also has a ton of exclusive e-sports titles in the MOBA and RTS genres, as well as a myriad of exclusive AAA RPGs (both single player and MMOs). It also has competitive shooters. Shooters are unplayable on consoles with analog sticks and 30 fps.
Ultra graphics @ 144 fps with a keyboard and mouse is an unrivaled gaming experience.
???? Keyboard and mouse are not for everyone OR everything. Some people LOATHE them, they are VERY uncomfortable. Also, a lot of games are best played with controllers as well. Not to mention GPUs are stupid pricy right now

this is my theory and its only a theory and yes it will come off as condensing and yes that might be my elitist biased but it is very honestly how I feel about it.
Console players are 'married' to consoles in a very religious way, they are very serious about their choice. They are also used to controllers.
It take a fairly disciplined and objective mind to be able to separate inexperience and unfamiliarity with a control device in of it self, let alone if you approach it with a bias.
that is my take

Ah yes, the devices designed to be used 8-10 hours a day by millions of people are super uncomfortable.
I will confidently say that that amount of games/genres that work well/better with a KB/M far outweigh that handful of genres that work better on a controller.
My two main games are League of Legends and Tree of Savior. They are only on PC. So PC gaming is just fine for me.
Honestly, I'm getting over it and beginning to crave something new. I'm purchasing a Switch this week just to have a breath of fresh air. If something is successful on PC there are a million clones right behind it.

some people buy games because what they see about the game is compelling to them and they do not worry if the game is a big marketed juggernaut
Yeah it sucks. I don't have nearly enough time to play all the games I want to play.
Thanks to damn early access and crowd-funding I'll never be able to play all the good games.
Total bummer.
early access is where the good (i mean fantastic) games are or came from. most of the great ones from the past 3 years anyway
some people buy games because what they see about the game is compelling to them and they do not worry if the game is a big marketed juggernaut
Same here. Many big names now were humble unknowns. It's their games that put them on the map.
Hell. I remember id when they first released the retail Doom. It was a plain old box with the same Doom marine image front and back. Plus, the box was hand-sealed with scotch tape. No shrink wrap.
Nope.

GPU's direct from the manufacturer, Unless you think you need a GTX 108Ti to beat an Xbox One X, in which case you are even more delusional than you make out.
How much did your 65" OLED TV and Atmos sound system cost again?

Even with GPU and RAM prices high prebuilts are still decently priced
My RX 480 8GB was $259 in 2016. Goes for $439 right now on Newegg. >_>
Unless you're into mining, PC gaming is expensive. If you mine, it's cheap. Paid off 3 cards(2x1060 6GB, 480 8GB) plus some by end of 2017. Should cut around $1500 this year. Can't even use my own rigs, so I've been playing on an old R7 265 2GB.

You use a controller for action games, RPGs, platformers, and racing games. You use KB + M for FPS, TPS, RTS, and MOBAs.
That's the beauty of PC: unlimited input options.
And I just bought a brand new GTX 1080 for $549 last week.
So why should i buy a console? when every game runs and play better on PC?

I own a Switch as well. If a console has exclusives worth playing, I will buy it. So far only the Switch has exclusives I want to play.
@n64dd: It doesn't suck, it just doesn't change. It only moves forward in technical aspects. It is a conservative platform where the favoured control method is still a workaround i.e. keyboard and mouse.
is this the part of the thread where we insist that radial menus, lock-on targeting, aim-assist, and less functional UIs are the future of game design?

Whatever the future is, it can't be described as keyboard and mouse control as it is already a legacy method.
Prices of video cards direct from Nvidia are normal, they just sold out. Tried to buy another 1080ti earlier, they have them listed at £679 but out of stock, next cheapest is Zotac 1080ti amp edition for £735 both cheaper than the one I bought a few weeks back although the latter only by a few quid.
