PC gaming is dominated by free-to-play games nowadays. There's still a premium PC market, but it's just a much smaller piece of the pie compared to the much larger freemium PC market.

I think that has to do with the fact that in a lot of countries where PC gaming is prominent, premium games and consoles are too expensive like in Eastern Europe, South East Asia and South America. A lot of people in those regions play on PCs because consoles are too expensive and PC has tons of F2P games, some games such as World Of Tanks which are big money makers are mostly popular in Russia. Then there are regions like China that have banned foreign Western and Japanese games which are mostly premium games up until recently and rampant piracy has made their own local premium game market nearly non existent. Just looking on Steamspy a lot of F2P games have a lot of players from countries such as Brazil, China, Russia, Poland, and Ukraine.

How's Horizon, BOTW, mario, etc on your pc?

BOTW is running very well and looks much better than on WiiU/Switch. Native 4K along with a texture pack. Looks and plays awesome.

Glad you admitted you pirated.

You get what you pay for. You're typically going to have to pay for more than a console, but once you do - be prepared to have better gfx/fps in 95% of games (as noted by tech sites). Objectively a superior experience in most video games. Simply superior online if you are into online gaming (exponentially more competitive genres/games, exponentially superior Esports, better/bigger scenes and communities, mods, etc.)

And please, don't talk about library, the following picture has run true since 2013. Every single year PC wins by significant margins,

@MonsieurX: Bu-but you won't notice the difference! Checkerboard 4k is like the new upscaled 1080p. Remember last gen when consolites tried to argue that their sub 720p games were in 1080p just because it said so on the games box and if it wasn't there was hardly any differences between sub 720p stretched out on their screen and true 1080p anyway.

I'd be almost tempted to take part when the GPU prices finally come down, but then I realized that almost every game I'd be playing on my PC I can play on my Xbone X right now. I've never liked RTS games, or top down RPGs, can live without MOD support easily. Getting double the framerate in a handful of games is really not worth the 1,500 euros I'd be willing to put on a PC. Don't even need it for the emulation, because I own the real systems I want to play already.

Edit: Not to talk 'bout games crashing every 5 minutes :D :D :D :D :D

@Jag85: Yup I did say that, more buy to play games are being made in China with a growing indie and standalone scene. Chinese users are starting to buy things other than PUBG on Steam. There is already a bunch of games on Steam where China ranks second in owning the most copies and even ranks first for some such as GTA V and Assassin's Creed Origin. China is also among the top 5 and top 10 in owning the most copies for a lot of games. There are only about 32 million Chinese users on Steam currently and when the amount of users and games owned by Chinese users gets even bigger and surpasses the USA we are going to see some serious growth. If not for China, premium game sales on PC would be in some serious trouble, for a lot of games I've looked through most countries don't come anywhere near as close to owning the same amount of copies as the USA as China does. It makes me realize how much more poorly some games on PC could have done if not for China. Especially Japanese games, outside of PC centric genres the Chinese do seem to like JRPGs and other Japanese centric games. I've noticed it when looking through some of the standalone games China has made, a lot of them play similar to JRPGs and other Japanese games. I've even assumed some of them were Japanese games because of their anime art styles.

In a few years we might see more AA-AAA PC titles come from China and from the rest of the world in general due to their massive market and better quality PC ports with PC even being the lead platform for some.

Ubisoft has recently stated they expect huge growth from PC gaming and China is one of the main reasons why. Makes sense when China owns the most copies of AssCreed Origin on Steam and is only about 5% away from owning the same amount of copies of Rainbow Six Siege and The Division as the USA which is currently at 21.38% and 23.36% while China is at 16.55% and 18.77%.

This isn't even factoring in Tencent's WeGame platform which they're are buying up the rights to some games being exclusively on their platform in China and they claim to have 200 million users.

At this point you'd have to be an idiot to not try and get a slice of the Chinese demographic. Koei Tecmo really screwed up by releasing a incredibly broken Dynasty Warriors 9 and even went as far as to remove the Chinese dub and subtitles even though they're in the PS4 version and some people have found the files for them. Dynasty Warriors 9 could have been a multi million seller on PC if they didn't release the game in a broken state and removed the Chinese dub and text. The game is at 87% negative on Steam with a good amount of them being Chinese users complaining about the missing dub and subtitles removed. The game was marketed in China too so they practically shot themselves in the head by doing that. Although it was mainly marketed as a PS4 game in China, if Sony bribed them into doing this then they are complete morons for taking it since 99% of the sales they'd get for that game in China would be from the PC version. Similar happened with Nier: Automata, for no reason Square Enix decided to double the price of the Steam version China making it even more expensive than the PS4 version which pissed off a lot of Chinese users. That game could have sold more on PC too if they didn't double the price along with the fact the game is broken and not a single patch has been released to fix it.

I would make a guess that many PC gamers can make do with upgrading individual parts rather than assembling a whole new PC. The majority probably fall in that category.

If all I had to upgrade was a video card, I'd pony up the cash, crypto-mining prices and all. When you need it , you need it.

PC gaming sucks right now?...

Hello there are almost no exclusives left on consoles except for Nintendo so if PC gaming sucks for you that means gaming sucks for you right now.

With games like Kingdom Come, Monster Hunter, Zelda BoTW, PUBG and more on the way people just need to enjoy and play their games and talk less rubbish.

And PC gaming is actually cheaper in the long run than consoles. I've spent far more money on my Switch than my PC because games are so cheap on PC. AAA games are practically free on Steam during their sales. Humble Bundle is also making PC gaming dirt cheap.

IMO the primary benefit for paying more is to have both an open hardware platform and open software platform. When I paid $420 for my 1070, the graphical upgrade was a no-brainer, but I can see how you can look at current GPU prices and not be convinced that this is the case.

Maybe for AAA gaming, I honestly don't know or care anymore. If you are a niche gamer this is practically a golden age when compared to any other time in my life.

Particularly when you start looking at modding communities. I mean Civ 6 might be a garbage fire, but Vox Populi is downright made of awesome.

That's interesting, considering China generally has the world's highest levels of Japanophobia, with some polls showing 90% of Chinese holding anti-Japanese views and only 5% holding positive views of Japan. Yet it doesn't seem like this has had much of a negative impact on Japanese games in China. This could explain why, in recent years, more and more Japanese games are being released on PC, in an attempt to crack the Chinese market. The Chinese games I'm familiar with are online MMO/MOBA games (which don't play much like JRPGs, though many have anime-esque art styles), though I'm not too familiar with Chinese single-player games (which could be more like JRPGs).

China's role in the video game industry is becoming very much like its role in the movie industry. Just as we're now seeing more movies from around the world catering to the Chinese market, we're going to be seeing more video games from around the world catering to the Chinese market. As a consumer market, China is becoming hugely important, since it's now the largest video game market in the world. But on the development side of things, China still has a long way to go before it catches up with Japan or America.

Text to speech replaces the keyboa..... oh wait

Touch Screen replaced the.... oh wait.....

There is just nothing as efficient and easy to use as a mouse and keyboard, this applies to simple browsing, to games, to work.

There is nothing "Legacy" about it, nothing that has followed is even close enough to make it legacy.

Least of all Controllers designed for kids with limited buttons and... ANALOGS (f*ck me are they crap except racing)

PC gaming is dominated by free-to-play games nowadays. There's still a premium PC market, but it's just a much smaller piece of the pie compared to the much larger freemium PC market.

Most of those F2P games are AAA e-sports titles that console peasants could only dream of ever playing.

There is a lot of Korean/Chinese shovelware, but nobody forces you to play those games. As far as AAA titles goes, PC receives almost every console game (except those on Nintendo consoles and a few Sony titles).

The GTX 1060 6GB is a good 20-25% more powerful than the 3GB versions at 4K.

If your goal is 1080p, then a 1060 3GB card would be alright. Wouldn't do it myself, the 6GB versions are better mining cards and pay for the difference in price on their own. Think the ethereum DAG size is 3.2GB right now.

Performance summary across all benchmarks at 4K:

Expensive is the correct term. PC gaming is more expensive right now. Yet, I'd still pick it over any console for the game genres I like.

@n64dd: It doesn't suck, it just doesn't change. It only moves forward in technical aspects. It is a conservative platform where the favoured control method is still a workaround i.e. keyboard and mouse.

is this the part of the thread where we insist that radial menus, lock-on targeting, aim-assist, and less functional UIs are the future of game design?

Whatever the future is, it can't be described as keyboard and mouse control as it is already a legacy method.

A legacy method that is still a standard in gaming and work...

"Legacy" Lets put it into context:

denoting or relating to software or hardware that has been superseded but is difficult to replace because of its wide use.

I don't accept your vague definition of "legacy" and the subsequent weird attempts to show that K&M can't be replaced - which, by the way, fulfill the last part of your definition perfectly.

Your attempts to change the topic on to console controllers is immaterial as well. Nobody is claiming that they are superior, nor do consoles call themselves the "master race" etc., so the comparison is a distraction.

Also, you took legacy as pejorative description - it isn't. If it works, fine. But you may not call it cutting edge and you can call conservative.

My Vague definition straight from the oxford dictionary in context? right.

So in other words we are just playing word games to win an argument I see? I'l take it at face value thanks.

Difficult to replace (Legacy context) is an example of an old piece of software or hardware that props up many systems, there are pleanty of BETTER versions available, but for various reasons (Resources, lack of legacy code knowledge, too afraid to break it) nothing BETTER replaces it.

Where as, in the world of Input, while touch controls/devices are more convenient because they are mobile, they sacrifice the pure efficiency and options presented by a mouse and keyboard. Therefore the Touch Screen is NOT BETTER, than the "Conservative" (talk about a context failure sheesh) so nothing is able to supersede a KB/M, it remains the best tool in that regard....

If Touch Screen, Voice or any other input method was simple BETTER, you can easily replace the KB/M, there is no "Legacy Code" equivalent because these other inputs can simulate and replicate the same types on input fed to the devices.

So yea, your angle... not buying it, you knew exactly what I meant, the term "Conservative" is immaterial and based purely on it's age, nothing of further substance as was the use of the words "Legacy" because again, there is no equivalent replacement of equal or better capability.

WHERE AM I GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That whole 'mobile' thing always gets me. I am not going anywhere, I want to play the game right where I am. thank you. I am not dragging my laptop, console or PC to the friggin sports stadium to play a video game

@MBirdy88: I never said anything was "better", it's the PC users who claim that they're better, not console users. If you claim you're better, you better have good reasons.

I said was that it conservative, by definition, to retain hardware configurations first popularized when Reagan was POTUS. It may be your preferred method, but it cannot be called cutting edge and must be called conservative.

I'm not interested in what's better, and I never said anything was better or worse. You seem to very worried about "better" as you wrote it four times in capitals, which makes you seem like you've taken personal offence.

It's objectively better for shooters. And it's the only method of control that works for RTS and isometric MOBA games.

For non-shooters and isometric games, you can just use a controller. PC has unlimited input options (you can use a PS4, X1, or Switch controller, or any other number of options).

PC is the superior platform when it comes to input methods. That isn't debatable.

You're throwing around terms without putting them into context. Legacy. Conservative. Not Cutting Edge. You're calling KBM all of these things without providing any counter-examples or alternatives.

Which part do you need clarification on?

I use legacy as in it is too entrenched and old to be practically replaced.

Conservative in the literal sense - the control method has been conserved.

Not Cutting Edge - (see Legacy).

And, if you're worried about terms, can you explain "master race" to me?

It can't be replaced because it's the optimal method of control for a lot of genres. If someone came up with something better, that something better would replace KB + M. The fact that nothing better has come along is telling.

And controllers have been around just as long as KB + M.

There exists no device(s) as precise for FPS input as KBM. That's why I don't understand why we're talking about KBM as if we can only make abstract comparisons.

So now we don't take facts into consideration, instead you will say "In your opinion" despite many more gaming genres being only workable on desktops/laptops? despite the accuracy? despite the types of games that require many more inputs? despite the ease of communication?

You've done it again, you've stated a twist as a fact simply by saying "Preferred" brushing off any objectivity as if it was nothing, I'm not offended, I'm just pointing out the ridiculousness of it, it can easily be looked at as passive-agressive, if not that, then misleading.

In computing, a legacy system is an old method, technology, computer system, or application program, "of, relating to, or being a previous or outdated computer system."[1] Often a pejorative term, referencing a system as "legacy" means that it paved the way for the standards that would follow it. This can also imply that the system is out of date or in need of replacement.

Again, the only criteria met is "old", nothing else.

As far as "BETTER" goes, it was to drill the point into you, I can't tell if you missed the point or just acting dumb because you know your original point was just flat out wrong and your saving face.

Further re-inforced by having to ask about master-race? really?
