Yes it does.

3rd gen = Nes, Mastersystem and ColecoVision
4th gen = Snes, Megadrive/Genesis, TurboGrafix-16 and Neo Geo
5th gen = Playstation 1, N64, Atari Jaguar, 3DO and Saturn
6th gen = Dreamcast, Xbox, Playstation 2 and Gamecube
7th gen = Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360
8th gen = Wii U, Playstation 4 and Xbox 720

Yes I missed some consoles out in some of the gens. And not in order of when they came out.

Wii it is not a 7th gen console.Wii it is not a HD gen console like the PS3/XBOX360.Wii is just a SD console like the PS2/XBOX/GC.....all of them 6th gen consoles. The WiiU is 7th gen console like the PS3/XBOX360.....because basically is a bit more powerful XBOX360.

The Xbox can run HD.

So because you say so, that makes it true. Then PS3 and Xbox 360 are sub 7th gen, as most of the games are below 720p. Yes the downloadable/arcade games are in HD but most of the retail games are not even in 720p. So going by your logic, that puts both consoles somewhere between 6th and 7th gen.

Or you could stop dry humping your PS3 for a moment, remove the fanboy glasses and accept that Wii is and was part of the 7th gen of consoles and Wii U will be part of the 8th gen with PS4 and Xbox 720.

Or continue living in a delusional world, were the PS3 is more powerful than PC's and that PC has no game that is graphically better than PS3 games. And this of course is you on the left and it cuts out at the end, but you say "her name is Sony".

I don't think the Wii-U would be an ideal platform to start a generation with. It's an underpowered piece of gimmick. The PS4 will be the one to start it all.

Yes the Wii is a SD console but that doesn't mean that it's not part of the 6th gen. It's just an SD console that took part in that gen.

The Wii U has been said by many developers that it is more powerful than the current so called HD twins but of course you would rather ignore it, post up screensshots of ZombiU, blow them up and zoom in so that it looks bad. ZombiU may not look amazing but it's a stepp in the right direction to show that the Wii U does have power under it's hood. It shows clear and smooth textures, some really nice lighting effects and seems to run very smooth. I am not going to say that this game makes PS3 and Xbox 360 games look last gen, that's crazy talk. But that's due to the final dev kits only just been finished very close to E3.

We have no idea on how powerful PS4 or Xbox 720 will look like, only rumors. It may make the Wii U look like Wii compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 or it may even turn out to make it like the Dreamcast compared to the rest of the 6th gen consoles or even PS2 when compared to Gamecube and Xbox. We don't know. But what we do know is that Gearbox, Epic, Crytek and others have said that the Wii U is more powerful than the so called HD twins, not just slightly more powerful but indeed more powerful.

But of course you would rather ignore all that, post some bad screenshots of Wii U games or games that are not going for "super" graphics and then take some bullshot or some areas that are good in an area for a game when the rest of the game doesn't look that good, so that it favours your fanboy delusions.

Technically it does but the race begins when PS4 and NextBox comes out. Wonder how cows would react if Sony didn't make the most powerful console out of the three.

they didn't last generation, Xbox and game cube blew ps2 away power wise.

I guess so.

But honestly, the Wii U looks more like an in between gen console, like the Dreamcast was.

Not to say the Wii U will suffer the same fate as the Dreamcast, just how I feel about it.

It is a shame that the Wii can't run HD....not even one.AtariKidX

No, the Wii can't run HD, though I think the games themselves Naitively are actually in HD.

Metroid Other M is one example that I think it was developed in HD, but is forced to go to 480p/480i.

Here's one of Gamespot's Screenshots.

Here's a screen shot I got from google

Snowy_area_ice_lake_frozen_Cryosphere_HD

Wii games can probably be run at HD, but the Hardware they're on probably can't put them out on the Resolution they're meant to be on. Much like how certain Games can't run in "Proper" HD on certain consoles.

yes it does, it doesnt matter that the wii u will be as powerfull as the 360/ps3 its still a next gen console.it will be obliterated when "true" systems are out(in hardware terms, dont care about sales) but still its next gen

skanjos

Nintendo has decided to "bow out" of console generations. Wii-U is about as much of a "next gen" console as an IPAD 2 is.

FOOLISH ONE! The Ipad 2 is obviouvly a generation ahead of the Ipad 1. That 2nd camera changes the CPU and tripled GPU power by 50! How dare people say just adding and extra camera and charging $500 more was a rip-off! It's a great deal! ehhhhh wha?

Ummm no. ColecoVision came out in 1982, Nes came out in 1983. Only a year between them. The Fairchild Video Entertainment System (VES) came out in 1972 which was in the 2nd gen. See the difference here?

Mitazaki

Coleco Vision came out 2nd gen. 2nd gen was from 76-84, Farichild came out in 1976 not 72.

No it came out as part of the 3rd gen but was discontinued in 1984. The The Fairchild Video Entertainment System (VES) was a mistype, yes it came out in 1976.

But as I said before, ColecoVision was part of the 3rd gen. Came out first and went out first.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_console#Third_generation. And before you say it "but it's wiki, any idiot can post false information in there"

It does not say anything about colecovision BEING 3rd gen, they were comparing the NES to the colecovision. If you actually CLICK on the 2nd gen link on that same page, you will see it. In fact here: https://www.google.com/url?url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_(second_generation)%23Comparison&rct=j&q=history+of+videogame+consoles+2nd+generation+comparison&usg=AFQjCNFRgxF-xPE-9RKZmZzLXnIN0eB23A&sa=X&ei=w5IFUL_zHYWB6gGsoKzUCA&ved=0CFYQygQwAA not all the consoles but there you go. Emulator or not, Nintendo Wii games seem to look better in HD and are possibly been DEVELOPED in HD.

The Hardware they're made for are probably holding the games back a bit.

I heard they were developed in HD but then downscaled. Also Nintendo released many 720p screenshots of Other M and Skyward Sword. (Go to IGN, the earlier screenshots are in HD)

It's got nothing to do with it been HD or SD, again you still seem to ignore that for a HD console, most of it's games are below 720p. Sure the Xbox 360 can upscale, but the games were made below 720p, which is not HD. Again how are they HD consoles when most of their games are not in HD?

Going by your logic, the PC is a gen ahead of the PS3/Xbox 360 as it can play most of it's games at 1080p and above.

LOL. Ya think?

PS2/Gamecube games look pretty good in 720p/1080p as well. The games aren't "developed in HD", it's just that when they run on an emulator they can be run at the higher native resolution and you can ad AA to take care of the jaggies. Plus the framerates can be improved upon as well. These are all things that are obviously limited by the hardware.

Sort of like how hardware limits current gen PS3/360 games to sometimes sub-HD or sometimes having framerates that can't even maintain 30.

See that's what I keep hearing.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, and The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword were all made in HD and the Screenshots Nintendo Releases are in HD, but they downsize the games so the hardware can run the game.

So really there ARE HD Wii games, but you just can't play them on the Wii.

The problem with this theory is that they basically skipped a hardware generation with the Wii, and released a console that hardware wise was basically only a slight iterative improvement of their previous technology. The gap between this New Console and the Wii is as big of a generational leap as the PS2>PS3 and the XBOX>360, however the basis from which they were starting was not much more than the PS2/XBOX generation. To make a next gen console they needed to do more than just play "catch-up" to the current gen consoles that have been around for so many years.

But what is your point?

I just pointed out that PS2/XBOX/Gamecube games can also be run natively at 1080p with newer hardware and receive the same benefits of higher resolution/AA/framerates. There is nothing special about Wii games being "made in HD". The reason these games can be run at higher resolution is because they are all rendered real time. Hell in future there will probably be emulators that run them in 1440p, that doesnt mean the games were made with 1440p in mind.

Next gen portable handhelds. It's own separate category. Not next gen in terms of anything else.
