Does the PC really rule the living room or is it more of a bedroom/office king? Who's king of the living room?

They say PC rules all but they are mistaken. The PC rules the bedroom/office with an iron fist. I will be the first to say that. However, the PC can't go into the living room, It's just not happening. They say if you own a PC you only would buy a console for exclusives. No, you buy a console to have a system in the living room. Maybe exclusives play a role in which console you buy but the reason for buying is to game in the living room.

So, who rules the living room with an iron fist? I'm going to have to go with the most powerful console in the world, the Xbox One X! The power is crazy, it's almost like a high end PC only it's a console. It has a UHD blu-ray player which is an awesome addition to your living room. It's a sleek, small quiet console designed to do great in your living room.

The Switch is my second choice because it does have amazing exclusives and you can just pick it up and play it anywhere.

What say you?

A second PC can go into your living room but your only PC will not go into the living room for most people. Who's really going to sit on their couch and do work in their living room on the 4k tv? Only because you want a few more fps or resolution, it's just not happening. And don't tell me someone is going to be moving their big dog PC around the house. LOL, not happening.

My PC is in the living room. Once upon a time I had a man cave in the spare room but now my kids have separate bedrooms and I'm relegated to a corner of the living room.

In my home (which admittedly is not normal), the PC has ruled the living room for 10 years now this year.

In my condo it was literally where the TV would be, my couch right behind it. I used my PC to watch movies and play video games.

in my RV it still the center but my movies are not done in bed using a chromebook.

but for most people I think they keep the PC in other rooms

I say for the majority, PC's do not rule the living room. For me everything is in my man cave (in the bonus room) separate from the living room. My gaming PC sits on the desk with a 34" ultra wide. Consoles are connected to an 80" 4k set.

About the XOX, I have one too (sitting with the PS4 Pro). It is a great machine and is indeed powerful but it not on par with my particular gaming rig. But who really cares as I am constantly bouncing from platform to platform enjoying each one. Each has it's plus and minuses. But I agree with you that consoles rule the living room for the most part. Always has.

I too agree the switch is awesome. I use it strictly as a handheld tho got it to replace my PS Vita.

No doubt. I have my own condo and live alone, so I have everything set up in my living room. Bedroom just has a smart TV for Netflix. Eventually when I upsize, i'll definitely be doing a man cave like yourself.

Consoles win the living room because that is where all the players play multiplayer games. If you want to play CoD or whatever when your bros come over, it makes sense to just use a damn console.

No one plays multiplayer on PC.

I have NEVER seen someone with a PC in their living room and I have been to tons of parties over the years.

Our living room (and the kitchen TV) is mainly for watching Blu Ray/Netflix/DirecTV now. I game in my den, the kids game in their bedrooms.

The only time the eldest kid games in the living room is when she brings out her laptop with her and sets it on a TV tray. Then she watches Netflix while gaming.

The living room is the wife's domain and she doesn't game.

To be fair, there's nothing stopping me from putting my pc in the living room but I don't want to. Consoles are a great cheap way to watch Netflix and play some exclusives. I can lug my ass into the office to play games properly, with free multiplayer like God intended, when the mood strikes. Not paying for that shit so I can have the "privilege" of suffering through an FPS on a controller

my second pc in the living room simply streams from the gaming pc downstairs. So it rules one locally, and one remotely.

Why would I want to play PC games on my TV? I play on a 144Hz monitor, with a mechanical keyboard, 3366 mouse, and with my body comfortably supported in a $600 Steelcase ergonomic chair.

My Switch is hooked up to my TV. I could get a Steamlink too, but I haven't felt the need to yet.

My computer is in my living room, my parents computer is in there living room, bedroom is for sex, sleep and a movie that I can fall asleep too, I might watch a movie or bring one of the consoles in there when my kids are on the Tv, and missus is on the computer but that it. When I was a teenager and my computer was in my room, now that I have my own home it's in the living room.

@Xplode_games: PC rules every room and conquers all domains. I have my desktop setup in my bedroom, but I run a long HDMI cable and USB hub to the living room so I can use the PC there as well. I also have a gaming laptop that I can take anywhere.

Your threads are shit.

PC can rule the living room. For 30 dollars I got a Steam Link, and for another 50 I got a solid wireless keyboard and mouse. Boom. PC in my living room. Works great, btw, for anyone considering. If I owned my home, however, I'd probably wire it so I could hook my PC straight to my TV from my room.

I think statistically, however, consoles are more prevalent because that's just sort of where they go. Yet another example of how consoles tend to just be thought of as these one-dimensional things, and how PC is ultimately the better, more diverse, more encompassing option.

Pc has always been more of a private hardware. It's something you use by yourself and for your eyes only. I can't see it being hooked up in the living room especially where a tv should be.

Well there is always the Steam controller, its only about $50 and it goes on sale often for around $35 plus it has some pretty good game bundle deals. I use it when I'm couch gaming or playing Warframe and it works almost as good as a mouse. The only downside would be a steep learning curve, it takes a while to get use to using gyro and touchpad together to aim and configuring controls to work the best for you on it. My instinct at first was to use the touchpad for everything when really the touchpad should be used for quick/wide aim movements and the gyro controls to make them more precise such as a quick swipe on the touchpad to do a 180 and then immediately use the gyro to make the crosshair. Here is a CSGO example of how good the Steam controller can in competitive FPS that aren't controller friendly. I've seen better than this too, I remember watching a guy that played just as good as top mouse and keyboard pros. The Warframe video is a good example of how I'm able to play it with the Steam controller. I can't do even half the stuff this guy did with a normal controller, forget about trying to kill enemies while flying around in the air, a normal controller pretty much forces you to play Warframe like its Gears Of War or Uncharted and its not that type of game so not only does it make the game more difficult it also makes it more boring.

@NoodleFighter: Yeah, I have a Steam controller and can't stand using it unless it's for extremely slow paced games, like Cities: Skylines. I'd rather use a controller for FPS games, and I hate that just as much; I just don't use the steam controller enough to get past the learning curve. Would much rather get one of these lapboards.

well if you live in a small apartment like me, your living room is your office! ha! ahaha!

seriously though, technology like long HDMI cables and the steam link let the PC win this battle even if its not physically in your living room.

Pc with pentiun + 1030 + 8gb ram + 7th gen compatible board + psu (Only piece I recommend you to get a quality one) + hdd + case and fans + mouse and keyboard ..

lets say 450€

if you want higher quality cpu/gpu you need to increase the pc price even more.

And yet I walked into a game.es store today and say xbox one s and 2 games and controller at 199€...

Ps4 slim with game and controller 249€

ps4 pro at 349€ and one x with 2 games 479€.

You cant get pcs running games at those price points with same quality.

So for the living room I recommend a console and in bedroom your pc.

I dont play in the living room. I got a man cave for gaming.

Indeed, I cannot imagine setting up console in the living room and playing on the sofa. It just would not fit in with the rest of the furniture. And the bother figuring where to run the cables and whatnots. Nah.

Man cave is best for gaming as then you have your consoles permanently plugged in to your gaming displays and whatnots.

GPU's have HDMI outputs and all current console gamepads either have plug-n-play functionality with self-installing drivers, or can be used with a simple program download. The "PC's can't be in the living room" argument was destroyed about 7-8 years ago.

There's this newfangled piece of technology called an HD cable, it lets you hook devices such as a computer up to your television. Computers are also built with these things called wireless receivers that allow you to hook up wireless controllers, keyboards, and mice up to them. Shocking, I know. Also, Steamlink.

My PC stays in my office and my next PC will go in there as well. My PS4 and UHD player sit in my living room. I rarely even use my living room TV unless the family decides on a movie night then I power up my 4K TV.
