Such a ridiculous game..... you can play for hours, but die, and those hours spent, mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! yeah thats right....even XP.... sure you can get your XP back if you get to your body.... oh wait, all the enemies have respawned.... but the items you used to survive until that point havent respawned into your backpack.

And if you die again trying to get back to your body.... then the XP is gone for good. This game is good for people who don't have much money, and want a game that will last a long time, due to it demanding you play for hours in order to get nowhere.

I originally gave this game a 9/10.... now I'm thinking 7/10.

If you do decide to play it.... don't be a "thief".... If it turns out that I'm having such a hard time due to choosing a difficult type of character to play as, then I'll gladly retract my previous statements.

Well dont die going back to get your souls. And the game at least saves your progress if you open a door or something. Its not as bad as your making it out to be.

There are some enemies to get by, that will kill you in 1 or 2 hits..... so make a mistake, a single mistake and BAM! game over! So don't make it sound so simple, when it really isn't.... especially when you spend all your arrows & such to get near the end.... so you die, and all your items that got you to where you were the 1st time are gone, making it virtually impossible to get back to your body without dying.

So you are left with a terrible choice... try to get your XP back, spend more time and lose it all.... or just lose your original XP.

[QUOTE="h575309"][QUOTE="Animal-Mother"] but the problem is you spend a ton of souls leveling ( you level by adding 1 stat point, after levling a stat point the amount of souls for the next one goes up regardless), so when you go and come back you'll have to go through all the enemies again and again and again, and as far as a class goes ,I choose knight, strong, but gets to keep the speed of a theif while wearing armor. http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/demon-s-souls That may help you as wellAnimal-Mother

Im a knight too haha. Not to mention he looks badass. I love when he pulls off a shield counter and one hit kills an enemy. So sweet.

So epic, we should play . Though I stil don't know how to fully enter someones world What are you up to?

LOL Im at work. No play for me. But yea we will have to figure this out. We need some kind of blue stone? to join others games. We can do the XBL headset thing.

maybe so.... but I beat Ninja Gaiden 2 on Warrior without any problems.... People talked about how hard that was.... I didn't think this game would be so unforgiving. I will probably jsut give up on it.... there are far too many great games coming out, plus others I already own that I've hardly touched... I gotta ask myself "whats the point of wasting all this time on 1 game and not getting anywhere, when I can have better experiences elsewhere?"

Sure the game isn't all bad.... but I've got Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Forza3 & Dragon Age (which will be 3x better than Demons Souls, I'm sure) coming soon.

Anyway... I'm not telling those of you who are playing and enjoy it, not to do so... great, good for you.... but this is more of a warning to others that havent thrown down the cash on it yet... steer clear for now, pick it up sometime when there is a gaming lull, and get it then at a much cheaper price... that way, if you don't like it, you haven't wasted $60 on it.... or rent it first.

tontontam0

i can start a new game of demon's souls and finish the entire thing in around 6 hours. game aint that hard :/

That's impossible

Not impossible I can do that now.

Demon's Souls is amazing!!! I am thoroughly enjoying it. I spent my entire day on the first part of the game. Finally beat the first boss lol.

This game will last me a really long time.

This fall is killing me. First NGS2, now Demon Souls. Next up is R&C, Uncharted 2, and MW2. Plus my Devils season tickets and Yankees playoff tickets. I'm tapped, no Christmas presents for anyone.

Okay... now thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard.... Melee based characters get unlimited Arrows? and my Thief (ranged) has to keep an inventory of them..... the other way around would make alot more sense.

That would be like giving the thief unlimited magic power, and not the caster characters.... WTF?

Hold on its in my briefcase.... LOL Ok so.... Intro, Character Building Guide, Survival Guide, Magic, Armor, Weapons, Upgrades, Rings, Items, Crystal Lizards?, Online Mode, Leveling and World Tendency and Character Tendency GUIDE, plus a walkthrough. Locations of all the items in the game, I dunno. And I cant really be reading this thing at work but its 160 pages so I mean, its probably got what sections have what items.

what area are you stuck on? i highly recommend you get threw 4-1 ASAP thats the first place you should clear after 1-1 infact. its a relatively easy area and one you have it down you have easy access to all the souls you need and you can buy all the items you want. I may also direct you to your bags just incase you havent noticed the heroes souls, soldiers souls etc. you can use those and get some extra demon's souls if you are low and need to get some arrows.

as stated, you need to spend the souls before you die. Also there's physical forms of souls in your bag such as the hero and soldier souls which can be cashed at any time and used as currency, but only use them when you're ready to spend souls. Also if you make it up to your old bloodstain, you'll be gaining more souls by the end of the level than you would have without dying. It's not really seen as XP, but more as currency. You use it not only for stats, but for weapon upgrades, armor, items, miracles and magic. You don't ever really need to spend souls on stat points and you can actually beat the game at the soul level you started at, so I wouldn't really refer to it as "XP" perse.

I played for hours yesterday (my NA copy first playthrough) and completed 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, so all I got left is 1-4, dungeon 3 and dungeon 5. At Soul level 51 and I got a meatcleaver, lava bow, my keel smasher (now known as dragon bone smasher), got my purple flame shield upgraded to +3, unchigatana upgraded to a tearing +2, and I got soul light as a temple knight.

Where as you're feeling really frustrated, I'm feeling very content for only putting a few hours in. Maybe it's just not your game and you're trying to rush or force it too hard.

I mean, I would be pissed off if I sucked too.

Curiosity forces me to ask: Do you remember your experience the first time through you original copy? And does the NA version play exactly the same? What are the differences?

all these people playing the game and having a hard time kind of make me want to play through it again to feel smug about how easy it is now rofl. I kind of want the US version now for extra trophies haha.

the game feels and plays the exact same way. The only differences being a new trophy set, and different names (a lot of the physical souls you hold in your bag, and a few of the weapon names). I had 3 different characters on asian servers and probably beat 10 new games, but after your first new game it's extremely easy to breeze through new games+.

I remember playing it for my first time, and there was no wikidot or anything so I tried to base my character around the blueblood sword (dunno if it's still called that?) and raising my luck stat all the way up, and I noticed that for PvE it was awesome, but for PvP it was pure fail, so I made a new character. After you beat the game for the first time (which probably took me roughly 30-50 hours, can't recall exactly) the new game was so much easier even though the difficulty of the monsters go up. I now try to base my character on a heavy melee and light magic type of setup. That was I can use the magic when neccessary in PvE, and PvP is very melee based.

OK well, I have only played through 1-1 so far, so I dont want to jump to conclusions. That section wasnt bad really. In fact, it made me think about encounters more the next time, and was really cool. I dont know maybe this section is very easy so Ill stop but from what I played, the game wasnt frustrating. It was just me being overly aggressive and not being smart.

1-1 is like the starting area, and is the easiest part of the game by far. wait until you get up to flame lurker for the first time.

If it turns out that I'm having such a hard time due to choosing a difficult type of character to play as, then I'll gladly retract my previous statements.

whatisazerg

Seriously it's not that hard..... I rarely had any trouble getting my souls back in my first game and in some ways NG+ is less of a hassle than the first playthrough (since I have ubar gear and skill now :)).

I'm not some kind of amazing gaming hero so if I can do it, so can you people..... Do a little research and come prepared....

Oh and by all means, do start as a thief if you want to. Starting class means nothing down the line. In fact, I'm sure that's why they call them origins instead of classes.

[QUOTE="h575309"] OK well, I have only played through 1-1 so far, so I dont want to jump to conclusions. That section wasnt bad really. In fact, it made me think about encounters more the next time, and was really cool. I dont know maybe this section is very easy so Ill stop but from what I played, the game wasnt frustrating. It was just me being overly aggressive and not being smart.Animal-Mother

1-1 is like the starting area, and is the easiest part of the game by far. wait until you get up to flame lurker for the first time.

the way to the tower knight is actually pretty tough. That long stretch of bridge. You'll all be lucky to make it across alive!!

i remember when i first went to that area i still didnt know you could hold circle down to dash to avoid the dragon rofl. i eventually figured it out and it was no problem, just go along the top of the road and dont go underground. tower knight seems really tough at first until you figure out his weakness, its like that with alot of the bosses actually lol.

[QUOTE="h575309"][QUOTE="zarshack"] he wouldnt be running out of arrows but he'd be running out of life instead, it takes alot more skill to play as a melee as opposed to a ranged class.

So why not grind and grind, get stronger, and then take on the harder stuff? And is the tower knight that red eyed fella? I didnt fight him yet lol. Out of curiousity, you can go back to all these sections again after you defeat the boss right?

The tower knights is a 50 ft knight in armor with a tower shield. Also yes it's almost like diablo going back to areas but with no boss respawn.

Can you only get the guide with the deluxe edition?

Yes, Atlus has said no other guide will be released from any other source for Demon Souls. The Deluxe Edition is the only way to get a Demon Souls guide.

because grinding in 1-1 is a massive waste of time because you get so little, and it doesnt help you that much because the game is basicly all about skill and avoiding enemies attacks. leveling up wont help you with that. the red eye knight is just a normal enemy, you have to fight tons of them in 1-3 and a few in 1-4. The tower knight the boss in 1-2 at the end of the long path in which the dragon is constantly flying overhead and breathing fire on you.

Yeah, the guide is really good. I know one reason Atlus did it was to give extra incentive for people to stop importing the game buy their localized version. Same with the art book and soundtrack pre-order combo.

lulz, the thing is enemy's respawn, and when you go to your place of death you usually die, again and a lot.Animal-Mother
When you die somewhere you can easily get back there again without dying because you've already reached that point before. I've put like 40 hours into the game and only once did I lose my souls for good because I was careless with one of those mages with the tentacle faces. It's really not as hard as people claim. It is challenging but I had more problems with Gears of War 2 on insane for example. Also there is no "difficult" character because even if you play as thief you can put some points into strength and use all weapons or armors you want (or magic for that matter).

Uh, TC? All my items are in my backpack after I die. All of them. What did you set the game to a higher difficulty or something? It would be impossible to get back to your bloodstain if you didn't have your items.

I think almost all the reviews i've seen of this title hit the nail on the head. This is a really 'hard' game however, it doesn't feel impossible, like the computer is exploiting mechanics and what not to just cheap shot kill you. All the deaths i've had were easily corrected once I gained some more knowledge and strategy as to how to fight.

It seems we have alot of Demon Soul players in here, and I know I should probably go somewhere else to ask this question, but how the hell do I get magic in that game? I picked wanderer as my starting class (good choice imo) and now I wanna use some magic, but can't find jack.

once you are finished with 1-1 there are 2 trainers in the nexus. one teaches magic, the other teaches miracles, they are both on the bottom floor around the sides. the miracle trainer is near the side with the blacksmith, the magic trainer is on the other side. Also inorder to use magic you need a Catalyst, and to use miracles you need a talisman of god.

You need a catalyst. It's like a magic wand. I think you can find the first in world 1-2 on one of the towers.

It's funny that people say NG2 was more cheap then hard, but DS is also extremely cheap, and the thing OP mentions is one of them. Losing all your stuff isn't "hard", it's cheap and frustrating.
