No, I haven't, but it did get a 7.5 from IGN, which isn't that great.
It's certainly not bad either.
Lost Odyssey got similar score and by far it's my favorite JRPG of this generation.
Screw that. I prefer thinking for myself.
Too bad TC can't see that for himself.
i know, im actually loking forward to trying out ID for myslef, screw the scores and screw TC for telling people how to think and what to buy.

review scores are generally too high atm.
All big games should at least achieve an 8.
Also what else are you supposed to use to decide weather to buy a game or not? Its all good and well looking at screens and watching gameplay vodeos but these are usually suppied by the guys who made it.
Reviews help to decide. Most reviewers are unbiased with their scores and if you read through it all it helps. It will tell you if there are ay bugs or issues such as bad AI.
But reviewers are only human, and humans inevitably bring bias. About the only way you can balance out the bias is to perform a multiple-perspective review, in which two or more people play the same game and form their own opinion on it and then their scores are combined and/or averaged for the final result (Famitsu uses this system--four reviews combined to make a 40-point scale). To the TC: If you really think 7 is a lousy score for a game (GS disagrees--7's to them are a "Give It a Try" score), then what is the minimum it should be? 9?

true.,...thats why i dont think ds has more games then a psp...because all of ds games are complete remakes
Excuse me? How are The World Ends With You, Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, Final Fantasy Revenant Wings, Pokemon Pearl/Diamond, Final Fantasy Fables, Lost Magic, Etrian Odissey, Final Fantasy Christal Chronicles and Rune Factory "remakes of RPGs I've played years ago"?
The only remakes are Final Fabtasy III and Final Fantasy IV, whose graphics were so drastically changed that feel like completely new experiences.

After reading the IGN IU review I personally won't be getting the game right away, not because of the score, but because of the length of the game. I expected it to be much longer, but apparently it's quite short. Reviews are good at telling people things like that, so they are useful, just not the be-all, end-all tools to judge games imo.

not getting too human as the demo was pityful
as for IU i will be buying as i like RPGS and even thou this one seems to have flaws in places im sure it will be a enjoyful experience

I do find it amusing, that a number of people in this thead, who proclaim that scores are meaningless, are actually the same people who were only last year jumping on every single PS3 game that didn't score AAA.
It's quite ridiculous. Interesting what Lemmings and Cows do, really

If you want a good review for IU you should read 1up's. IGN's was horrible (not score wise) but as I've said many times before: he left out so many things. He didn't talk about item creation, difficulty levels, post-game dungeons, situational battles and so on. He complained about the game being short (30 hours is OK, eternal sonata was 20 and got 8.5) and that there were too many party members. That Hilary guy was also the one that gave Lost Odyssey a 7.5 and that game tuned out to be amazing.

There hasn't been a 9 RPG for a long time.
8 is my minimum, for even looking at it, unless a friend of mine (or even someone in these forums) reccomends it specifically. With RPGs specifically though, they're a big time waster, and I tried a game that was a 7.9 here at GS, and I detest that game as much as I tried to like it - that was Star Ocean 3.
And no, IGN isn't my barometer as someone mentioned - I tend to look at metacritic and I read several reviews that they provide. IGN is the only IU review I've read so far, but I doubt it'll do much better with other editors.

You shouldn't pay for crap. That's how crap keeps getting produced.
First: A review is not a fact. Not because a reviewer says a game's bad it necessary is.
Second: 7 is, in any site, standard of "good". And good =/= crap, you know.
Third: You are no one to tell us what we should pay for or not.
Mario RPG was such a hit that not only did Square not help make another but Nintendo changed the formula because it was hated by so many
Can't go wrong there
I'm pretty sure Super Mario RPG's failure in the fact they never made another one doesn't make it great
Oh yeah, it makes it fail

I would say it didnt sell so well because it was released in May of 1996, a few months before the Nintendo 64 launched. I am not a big JRPG fan, and I love SMRPG.
A day where people think 12 hours is long enough for an RPG...is a sad day indeed. Bread_or_Decide
It's hard to play a lot of huge 60 hour games when you have other responsibilities in life. When I was a kid, I would've loved more long and epic games, but anymore, I just don't have the time for it.

Agreed its just tedious and frustrating 20 hours is the sweet spot for rpgs now. Just pack the game with more content and new game plus and its all good.
im 30 hrs in disgaea 3 and only on the 3rd chapter:cry:
Have you played through Mass Effect?WAIW
Mass Effect is a fantastic game. However it also proves his point in a way, bacause the 360 version has minor issues which could have been avoided if for commercial reasons the game wasn't rushed. I hope they don't do the same with ME2.

Sometimes this is true, but when a reviewer says a game has BUGS then that is a problem. When you read a review thats what you look for.
When a reivewer says the story is boring, they are probably right.
It got the scores it deserved imo. Just like most other games. If you play a game anough you will usually end up seeing what the reviewer mans.
Like with R&C, I disagreed with GS review but after playing it a lot I saw what they meant.
[QUOTE="NinjaMunkey01"]That's ridiculous, lots of good games score lower and are still good. Yes some games are still good even if the review is below 8. But when nearly all reviewers say the game is lower than 8 it usually meant that its good, but nothing special. and in this gen competition is high and if a game is not special it does not sell. Wr cant all go buying every game just beciase we think it might be good. Many people have some sort of benchmark for what they will buy and mine is 8 usually. Like I said review scores are usually too high, most big games not easily get past 8 and tons of games are achieving 9's despite problems. 7 is the new 6 imo. Below 8 means the game might be fun, but £40 worth of fun?All big games should at least achieve an 8.Bigboi500

I never said you should completely rely on one review. Its best to read multiple to get the whole picture and to eliminate biasness. the score is not always the deciding factor. you read the review too see if you would like it. You use both to make a good judjement.

I expected it to be much longer, but apparently it's quite short. Reviews are good at telling people things like that, so they are useful, just not the be-all, end-all tools to judge games imo. Exactly. A review helps you to decide. but a review sort of does take up much of your desicion as it tells you about the game and gives you al the main points to decide with.
Overall i think reviews are the best way to see how good a game is. They are usually right. The problem is you think that reiewers get it wrong often, but they dont. Reviewers are paid to do this and will have a certain way of doing it. Read GS reviews they always contain something about the graphics, which is important as bad graphics = less immersion. They cover gameplay which is very important. they cover controls, multiplayer, bugs ect.
They dont usually spend much time on opininion, what they say is usually backed up and facts.
maybe that bit about scoring 8 is a little harsh. A game can still be good under 8 but 8 and above is considered as a vey good game, and when a game costs £40 which one will you choose?
Who are you to tell people what to buy and not buy? Last I checked you didn't have any authority over anybody. If gamers liked what they saw from IU or Too Human then hell they should buy it. As long as they're satisfied with what they've seen.
If you're going to let NUMBERS decide for you then go ahead. But you're really restricting yourself to very little games and don't even try to bother trying to play games that could be very ambitious and even better than most games that get AAA scores left and right.
I've beaten Too Human in Coop and I just finished it single player last night and I plan on going through it again.
It's 60 bucks well spent.
heretrix
Have to agree about money well spent, i have not played it online yet but have been playing for about 7 hours and think its a great game.
Personally, I think the person who posted this thread made a mistake the second he/she wrote the title:" Don't buy Too Human or Infinite Undiscovery"
Why not? Should everyone agree with your opinion in choosing what they want to enjoy? I purchased Too Human and have played through it multiple times in single player and coop. I think it's a blast and enjoy it very much, despite it's problems and shortcomings. It kind of reminds me of Mass Effect. Mass Effect had plenty of problems (tedious item management, texture pop-in, plain side quests, random bugs, etc.) but I loved that game. Likewise, Too Human has some issues, but I find the gameplay, loot collection, cooperative play, customization and content very enjoyable.
I recently purchased Mercenaries 2: World in Flames as well. It also has some bugs and annoyances, but overall, It's a fantastically fun game. Should I have not purchased it either if reviewers point out it's shortcomings, as many already have? I don't think so.
I wasnt planning on buying either, but now I'm getting both just to spite you.
whocares4peace
To this guy. If you really want to piss the TC off. I mean really put a dent in his day. Give me $1000.
You follow a reviewer fore a few games. If at the end you felt he directed properly and agreed with him. Gratz thats your reviewer. If not keep looking, or just jam out $60 randomly or for every game that comes along. Maybe you can review the games. Just don't get upset when somone tells you you have no idea what your talking about.
Also can't say anything about IU, but Too Human. Not for me I guess. Buy it if you want, and if you have fun; more power to you.

But we're lying in order to justify our purchase :cry:Yeah the person that reviewed IU for IGN sounded like he was biased against it from the start. LO is an amazing game, I enjoyed it a lot. Most of the time reveiws are pretty much well done, but not always. One of my favorite games of all time scored a 6.0 here but that didn't phase me and I'm glad it didn't. I would have missed out on it if I had believed the review.Overall i think reviews are the best way to see how good a game is. They are usually right. NinjaMunkey01
I am buying it for two reasons.
1) I love rpg's and every single review I have read (IGN included) has said this game is overall very enjoyable.
2) I think its important to support developers like Square-Enix on the 360 so that they throw more games that way in the future. Same with Atlus, although I did pass up Operation Darkness, these companies have been holding off support of the 360 because their primary fans are in Japan... well if they start seeing increased sales in other parts of the world they will begin releasing more games for the console.
Don't get me wrong, if a company releases a bad game I will pass on it no matter what. However if a company like this releases a game that is getting above average reviews I will pick the game up without hesitation.
Lastly I think there is a big problem with people just looking at the review score and refusing to actually read the reviews. Alot of reviews for IU have stated clearly that the game does try a lot of new things, and that the game is a very enjoyable experience. The 1up review even said that they hope this is just the first game in a new series of games like Suikoden...
