DOTA 2 (GOTG) has officially released

I'm not sure if this really warrants a thread on SW or not, but DOTA 2 has now been officially released and beta access has been discontinued for new players (so people who have already been playing the beta will still have access, people who wish to join will not as the beta invites and passes have been discontinued).

It will still continue to be updated, probably indefinitely as new heroes will continue to be developed after the old ones have been remade.

I hope this is at least exciting for the somewhat dissapointingly small dota fanbase here on GS. ;_; 

I love the game, more players is always good especially where matchmaking is concerned.

yeah... i tried it a little when i got into the beta. result: 700h in the meter now.

I can't recommend this game enough. I've never played the original Warcraft mod, but got into the beta about a year ago... It's pretty much the only game I've been playing since then (with a few other titles squeezed in occasionally).

Yes, the learning curve is steep, the game is punishing you hard for your mistakes and the community is really filled with nerd-raging kids that won't make it any easier on you... but damn, this game is just addictive and fun! Especially because of its complexity, there is so much to explore in terms of variety in strategy and tactics, and no two matches ever play out the same.

Valve has been doing a good job in making the entrance to Dota 2 easier, now that they have the tutorial levels and the in-game guides that advise you on skill build and item progression.

If you're looking for a deep, skill based multiplayer experience, look no further.

Best of all: completely F2P, no pay to win in any way and you never have to spend a single cent if you don't feel like.  

I wanna get into dota, the only things stopping me at the moment are the fact that its overly complicated and convoluted, and the fanbase is atrocious. Its like all the worst people from XBL mated incestually for 6 generations and DOTA 2 players are the offspring. Not all DOTA 2 players, just an overwhelming majority lolII_Seraphim_II

Well it's not as bad as that quote makes it out to be.

Basically it's a game that grows on you, making you want to play a bit every day but not all the time (like Wow :P).

also most counter strike servers are hosted by the community, ALL the DoTA 2 servers are hosted by Valve.

I opened that game once, saw it was really confusing and never opened it again. I have a bunch of other games to play anyway.

Already put over a hundred hours into the thing which is very, very rare for me. Absolutely fascinating game and the best MOBA/Multiplayer ARPG I've played since the War3 mod - excellent fun with friends and the gold standard of free to play games. I'm still surprised how good the thing is and how well Valve are handling it. As long as it doesn't turn into TF2 I'll be stoked.skrat_01

Though in TF2 I like having options in play style for each class, some things are abit OP though... major balance patch on TF2 coming soon

Gun Slinger gives health because its the "on the move engineer" combined with the crit shotgun after sentry death... I dunno engineers are very fragile... not a big deal.
