I love how the TC thinks that by mentioning the KZ trailer automatically makes it an invalid comeback for this thread. :lol:

But yea, there IS an apparant downgrade from those trailers, and really, Bungie had SO much artistic influence to make the game look truly "next gen" while still retaining the look, feel and direction of its art, Take for example, the CGI trailer released during a game of football, the trailer so wildly used as a .gif signature. With a more gritty, dark look...Bungie could have easily achieved the bnext gen look of that trailer while using the same amount of polygons and effects. How do I know? Resistence was able to pull it off during one of its snow levels (the dark, gloomy look).

Bungie really screwed graphically, and yet..they make their pointless excuses as if it makes any difference. Yea, blah blah blah, your responsibility to create a game that outshines the last GRAPHICALLY at FIRST GLANCE have failed. Gameplay wise, im glad you're able to bring back the AR...at least you give some of the fans some solice.

That makes it okay, how? They're simply sugar coating and safe guarding a deceitful way of telling the customers, "Hey, this is what our engine could do if we pulled all our resources in this one scene, but its not what the game will look like. But we know you'll think it is anyway. PR HYPE TRAIN woo woo!"

If you're going to showcase the engine thats featured in your star game, you should show it..not with a million polygons per model, but actually SHOWCASE what the game will eventually look like. Its a well known, and very shady thing companies do to hype and "tease" gamers. And when GAMERS defend this practice, well..dude, seriously, you're more of a cow than the cows. And more of a sheep than the sheeps.

Well, do you think armor should look like sandpaper or should it be smooth? If you want smooth armor then you don't need bump mapping, am I right? I'm sure the 360 could easily render some bump mapping on his armor since you'd really only see it in cutscenes, and in cutscenes their is no AI or physics since everything is scripted leaving a lot of resources to spare. Bungie could have left in the sandpaper armor if they wanted to, it was a design choice not this downgrade. Now whether or nothis current armor looks better or worse is personal preference.

only in the cutscenes, are you serious? i remember the marines fighting alongside the chief in halo 2, i bet there will be even more fighting alongside the chief in halo 3. that has to be damage controle. if they had the chief bump mapped like that, they would have to do the same for all the armor that is similar, as in the marines and maybe even the enemies as well, i think its pretty obvious they dont have the ram for that, and if only the chief looked like that, the game would look retarded. so... downgrade:COMPLETE!!!

Assuming the marines had the same armor as the chief, which they don't... Metal armor is supposed to be smooth, not looking like jagged sandstone, hence why bump mapping isn't NEEDED. You believe whatever you want to and pretend you know why it's downgraded :roll:

Looks great to me! And yes, the first Picture does look more shiny, and more deatailed, but the others are close to it.

Okay, we need to get some facts straight. First off, the engine has likely changed in a year since the reveal trailer. Just because it looks similar, doesn't mean it's entirely the same engine. Second, the models in Halo 3 have a VERY low polygon count. They even noted that in the FAQ about the reveal trailer. Go read up and think a little before you go claiming someone is a tool.

This has nothing to do with Killzone. It has everything to do with the "gameplay" let alone realtime claims people were getting from lems at the time of the H3 trailer.

When will people ever get pass graphics in a game? Seriously get over it. Graphics aren't everything. If I remember correctly Killzone 1 was a very good looking PS2 game last gen and it still sucked hard. Once everyone gets pass the graphics it always relys on the gameplay.

Look at the haters: crying over graphics as if they where the single most important aspect of the game. Let's face it, Halo looks really good, if not fantastic, and it will deliver. At the end of this year, the haters are going to realize, once again, that the most fun console shooter out on the market is Halo.

Haze will not compare. Killzone will not compare. Call of Duty 4....well, it's Call of Duty, and it won't compare. But unfortunately, reviewers won't be able to grasp the reality of "graphics =/= gameplay", and they'll be too floored to notice that everyone won't be playing those titles two years from now while Halo 3's online base will still be going strong, and for good reason.

The first 3 is from the trailers, the last one is from gameplay. Compare gameplay shots to show downgrade.

Go watch the making of the trailer video.

You clearly see that the "golden" chief only accures in the lone " god ray" ie. the sunlight.

However you look at that trailer you see the chief in different lighting and they all look different.

Please fanboys just educate yourselves about what it is your talking about before you own yourself.

Damage control? Sure label it however you want, but bungie promised nothing, they showed a trailer and decided to change some of the textures, whether you like them or not is opinion. However judging from the screenshots, most of the game does feature bump mapping of some sort if you look at.Amazing how you assume I'm a fanboy, I don't even own a 360 anymore. That's what's wrong with people today,they assume and pretend to know what they're talking about like you. As if you knew why they changed textures, give me a break. If you knew anything about bump mapping you'd know it's not a resource hog, hence why last gen consoles could use it quite frequently.

hmm, nowhere did i even mention 360 in my post, so how could i assume you are a 360 fanboy, maybe a halo fanboy, or a FPS fanboy? i dunno, thats why i never got specific. talk about assuming :lol: and xbox did normal mapping on riddick, as in the put high quality textures on low polygons.bump mapping is more of a resource hog especially with the higher polygon counts this gen. some environments even on multiplayer feature bump mapping, and maybe thats the reason they didnt include it on the players, plus tweaking the lighting to look good with non static objects would be a pain, environments dont move, players do.

also i like bungie, i liked oni when everyone else hated it, i thought it as a decent game. but i can admit, killzone 2 got blew more minds than halo 3 did. xbox 360 is the platform that is easier to develop on right? the system with the embedded edram, the system that can do AA and HDR with no hit on the resources, the system that produces better textures with the unified ram, yet as a pc gamer, i can see through the BS cus i am looking from the outside in.Stall0wn3d

That's why devs opt to gowith making low poly count objects and implement bump/normal maps instead of making higher poly count objects. People really should stop hoping for games to fail and bashing them for things that dont effect HOW GOOD THE GAME WILL BE in any way.

To people who disagree :

Don't you understand that downgrade =/= bad graphics. The greatest-looking game on Earth can be a downgrade if target renders showed even better graphics. Halo 3 was downgraded. It's obvious. It's almost a fact. Get over it already.

When it comes to Halo it's about gameplay, but any other game on any other system it's about graphics. Killzone 2 will flop because the texture is not next gen...Shusty_lives

I like halo it's supposed to be the flagship game for the xbox platform and halo 3 is not that impressive imo hl2 orange box,ut3 and bioshock will all be better games.

Well, do you think armor should look like sandpaper or should it be smooth? If you want smooth armor then you don't need bump mapping, am I right? I'm sure the 360 could easily render some bump mapping on his armor since you'd really only see it in cutscenes, and in cutscenes their is no AI or physics since everything is scripted leaving a lot of resources to spare. Bungie could have left in the sandpaper armor if they wanted to, it was a design choice not this downgrade. Now whether or nothis current armor looks better or worse is personal preference.

only in the cutscenes, are you serious? i remember the marines fighting alongside the chief in halo 2, i bet there will be even more fighting alongside the chief in halo 3. that has to be damage controle. if they had the chief bump mapped like that, they would have to do the same for all the armor that is similar, as in the marines and maybe even the enemies as well, i think its pretty obvious they dont have the ram for that, and if only the chief looked like that, the game would look retarded. so... downgrade:COMPLETE!!!

Assuming the marines had the same armor as the chief, which they don't... Metal armor is supposed to be smooth, not looking like jagged sandstone, hence why bump mapping isn't NEEDED. You believe whatever you want to and pretend you know why it's downgraded :roll:

dude, bungie stated that the reason they took out the bump-mapping in the armor is because that future metal armor will be smooth to provide camoflauge. why the hell would a futuristic metal suit be shiny and sandpaperish like that? he would be spotted in an instant. besides, we all know u are trying to bash halo 3 because it is not coming on your console. i own both a 360 and PS3 and i can even admit that Killzone 2 looked ridiculous in the graphics department. the textures looked like it came from a ps2.. but it wont stop me from buying the game.

To be quite honest I could only see the first 3 pictures when you first posted. Not sure if you accidentily left out the most recent screen, but I deleted my post once I saw it. I personally wouldnt be surprised if it was a gamespot glitch that kept me from seeing your whole post.

it must be a glitch, cus the 2nd to last one is mindblowng.

whats so sad about this is that the last pic and the 2nd to last pic is EXACTLY the same, the chief is just in different lighting. that is how good the lighting is in Halo 3. wait till you can see the game in motion then u can bash it all you want.

You have got to be kidding me :lol: the textures character models are all downgraded look at the 2005 environment compared to the 2007's then you will see what im talking about. Killflop 2 downgraded so hard idk why cows think it matched up with the 05 trailler because in all aspects it didnt.

may 9th 2006 its artistic reasons alright, as in they didnt have enough ram to bump map everyone and put decent AI in all the enemies otherwise only the master chief would be bump mapped and all the marines would look like crap. have fun guys :D *waits for someone to post the cgi trailer of killzone*Stall0wn3d

You do realize that your second picture (the glossy one) proves why the removed the sandpaper texture. It looked nothing like what MC use to look like so they removed it and now he looks like what hes supose to.

When it comes to halo 3 there is not much to say I know gears is not supposed to look better than halo 3 imo after h3 came out a year later. The beta was okay but no leap forward there either this is THE game on the 360 from bungie the top 360 1st party dev and it looks like meh.

Really I am a fan of halo but 1 was great then 2 was good and now 3 is looking alright bungie has fallen off. With all the power of the 360 and years in the makingI expected alot better. Halo 3 is just not looking like bungie is pushing the hardware imo I was playing halo 2 on my hdtv in 1080p upconverted and halo 3 does not look that much better.
