I have a psp and a dslite.  I honestly dont think i could choose between the two of them.  the two castlevania titles on the ds are absolutely amazing, but the psp is getting dracula X here soon.  I guess as far as games go i would lean more towards the ds.  I'm 20 and i guess i am more of an oldschool gamer (meaning im more about great gameplay and not all about flashy graphics).  i do love the psp for the homebrew though.  Its really awesome playing snes genesis and psx games (FFVII on the psp is a dream come true) where ever i may be (dont bring up the laptop argument, a laptop is not portable like a psp).  I also dont own any kind of mp3 or video player so the psp kicks ass in that aspect for me as well.  8 gb mem cards are right around the corner which will rock (who seriously needs 80gbs???).  People who are complaining about the psp's battery life are wrong.  I can get almost 20 hours out of my psp on sleep and hold mode when i use it as an mp3 player.  the psp also has a much longer battery life than the ds if you convert your games to iso's and play them off of your mem stick.  The UMD drive sucks a TON of battery life out of your system.  I prob get 6-8 hours of game time using the Iso version of the game. The psp has awesome games like syphon filter, tekken, tales of eternia among others.

Yea UMD's do suck horribly, but thats not an issue for me since i dont use them. 

IMO the psp feels better in my hands, but i have big hands.  I seriously thought i was gonna wind up with carpal tunnel syndrome after putting 30+ hours into castlevania POR and 40+ into DOS.  the DS is less expensive which is nice.  A lot of people bash the DS because it is geared towards children.  But who doesnt love mario (well 12 year olds who didnt grow up trying to find the secret whistles that your friends were telling you about in mario 3, before the age of the internet).  How can you call yourself a gamer if you are over the age of 18 and hate mario??????

I suggest everyone get a ds and a homebrew capable psp (IMO the psp is good without it but it's SO much better with it).

I know from experience that you're more "cool" if you use a psp here in nyc. But I have a ds, and psp has nothing on trauma center, mario kart, hotel dusk, castlevania, jump superstars(import), ff3, elite beat agents, phoenix wright. See that? That's variety. If you hate shooters and racing games, most of psp's "AAs" are gone. 

And DQ monsters, lunar knights, zelda, dragon quest 9, and FF12 are coming in the near future to put the final nail in the psp's coffin.

why do sony insist on publishing consoles shipped it is totally pointless. psp's are crap end of discussion!!

Right.  The DS has variety.  And Dragon Quest IX will MURDER the PSP in Japan.

People seem to be missing some of the PSP's strengths here also, heres some genres where the PSP shines compared to consoles and/or the DS:

-Puzzle (meteos, tetris > luminus)

-Racing (mario kart, diddy kong racing > any racing game on the PSP)

-FPS/TPS (metroid prime = coded arms, both of them are average)

-SHMUPs (both consoles suck at this catagory)

-2D/3D Fighters (I'll agree with you on that.) Runningflame570

I thought it was 21 million sold? In America the rate is 1.5:1 I believe. Oh, well. The PSP is great, but its a bit too expensive for the average joe. If you can afford one I'd definitely recommend one. I like my DS, but its in a completely different league from the PSP. The PSP is far higher quality and performs better overall, but the DS will always pull in the casuals.
