DVD size limiting Project Gotham Racing 4

According to a developer over at the official Project Gotham 4 Racing forums, they are having problems Fitting all the data of the tracks which was unveiled at today into the game.

He writes :

"You won't see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn't a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD."

They're not going to make 2 completely different games they are going to make 2 very simmilar almost identical games. they have to make sure that it can fit on both formats. So, ultimately the game could have way more features and be a better overall game if MS had decided to use HDDVD as their main format for games. But they didn't, so now the game is limited on a so it can fit on a DVD9. They could have made a way better game if MS used a nex gen format like Sony did.

Devlopers is having a difficult time with dvd limiting their games!! Its the reason why GTA wont be its best since its on the 360 too.why do you think many devlopers is goin to the PS3 now!! If their goin to go all out with the games they mind as well go to the PS3 since its hve the most power and space for the games they envision..elementz28

So basically they can't recreate parts of the game because of storage limitations? Oh ok, as long as they are giving us a new game to play than the last one, then I see no problem with them not having this little special effect in the game. Bethesda had to copy data multiple times on BD so that the PS3 could read it faster whereas they didn't need to on the DVD side of things.

Also if they were going to redo textures for EVERYTHING in the game for different times of day then thats ridiculous. You haven't had to do that since respectabl;e lighting engines were developed.

You can't be serious. You do realize PC games almost always download parts of the game on the harddrive....somethign which X360 can not do because of the Core sku.

But it gets downloaded onto your HDD so it can afford to be compressed a lot. Console games stream a lot of their textures off the disc and if you compress everything too much it becomes a bottle neck because too much time will be spent uncompressing data, not to mention compression makes games loose some quality and Direct Xs unefficient RAM management.

most PC games you don't need a CD/DVD to play. XBOX's don't have standard HDD's so they need everything from the disc.

Those are optional downloads, you cant make EVERY game download manditory files onto the 360s HDD because not all 360s come with HDDS.

All games in my library, save the MMOs and some exceptions, require me to insert a disc.

Rockstar said they felt that dbd9 and lack of standard HDD was a bottleneck. But 50mil is 50mil and in the end they are in it for the money.

In other news: PS3's highly anticapted up coming title Gran Turismo 5, is not really restricted at all by Blu-ray and the inclusion of a hard drive in every PS3. Win.

Well, Counter Strike Source, Battlefield 2, Age of Empire 3, Commandos 3, Sims 2, Doom 3, have all been recent games and have about 4 cds...And they arent very Powerful games either....So why wouldent Crysis?? Anyways your prolly use to playing games like Starcraft, or Diablo 1 which requires 1 disc....Name the last Pc game you played??
