EA CEO John Riccitiello says that Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 represents a clash of the titans in the games industry and he feels good about EA's position in the fight.

Ha, right. Which will dominate? Typical modern era shooter A or typical Modern era shooter B. Choose carefully, One has betterer graphics so obviously it's the better one.

I swear, Battlefield 3 is closest gaming example of people acting like it's the second coming Christ.

Don't try to deny you all know Modern Warfare 3 is going to sell a lot more than Battlefield 3. Activision is just too good at marketing. Battlefield 3 might be the better game, but it doesn't really matter. CoD series is more well known.

MW3 will crush BF3 on consoles. BF3 will crush MW3 on PC. COD is too popular to crush with one game.

Let's hope so , I mean , i kind of feel sorry because Acti has them on a leash , it's not the developer fault I'm sure , but anyways it has to be done , the elite service was the final nail in cod's coffin.

I'm inclined to agree

Will BF3 kill MW3 in sales, no

Will the momentum start to shift away from the ageing franchise, yeah

I can't wait to come back to all these CoD vs. BF threads in three years time when everyone is bashing Battlefield for being another milked, unoriginal bro-shooter franchise.

LMAO, you come here acting all smartass when infact your unbelievably ignorant. Typical modern shooter? Have you seen the power of the Battlefield 3 engine and the immense online gameplay the Battlefield games offer?

The engine, case in point. It's going to play the same but it's just such a huge deal since it has better graphics. I promise you, gameplay wise it's not going to do anything significantly different than past Battlefields.

WoW is starting to show its age. I think The Old Republic can put a dent in WoW's popularity. It looks better, BioWare's working on it, and has the Star Wars name in it. I'll probably even The Old Republic a chance. Star Wars geeks like can miss out on games like this. ;)

Wasn't Everquest pretty popular in its prime? It's a pretty popular genre on PC's at least, and Final Fantasy XI kind of made it more popular on consoles.

I meant in terms of the money being invested into SW:TOR. Surely they would want a large piece of WoW's userbase.

Its the true sequel to Battlefield 2, a game we have been waiting for like 5 years now. Huge 64 player maps, amazing destruction and physics engine, insane animations, all vehicles including jets and on top of all that a coop campaign. Its literally better in every single way.

BF3 will easily be the better game. Hell BFBC2 is better than the COD series, if EA was looking just to make a better game they should probably know they did that years ago. I have no doubt now that BF3 will sell huge, more than BFBC2 did at least but it won't outsell MW3. It's like some really awesome band that went from a indy hit and now they're releasing their first album with a record company and their saying their going to outsell Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber. It's just not going to happen. I think BF3 will be the game that is so much better than COD that it either forces some real changes onto the next COD or could, in the future, be responsible for it's fall.

It really is clash of the titans but people who believe that battlefield will defeat cod , propably havent realized yet that its an impossibility since cod is gonna get higher ratings and the double if not triple the sales already. For cod to die, it has to sell 2-3 million, which is standard for the survival of a game in the current multiplatform market.

No rehashes, actual good gameplay. Battlefield 3 won this battle before it began.

argetlam00
The entire bf franchise is a rehash with diffirent time settings, they stepped up with bf2 back then in the golden age of pc gaming, but bc1 and bc2 were basicly lesser version of bf2. Bf3 has to be massive in order to sucseed. Personally i dont think better graphics and engine make a proper sequel. I would rather keep playing bf2 than bc2 because its actually a better game.

Ha, right. Which will dominate? Typical modern era shooter A or typical Modern era shooter B. Choose carefully, One has betterer graphics so obviously it's the better one.

That too, bf3 is hardly showing anything, it was terrible at E3, mw3 did not even have to try to put up a better show. People act like its the best thing ever, but so far all we saw was a dx11 tech demo on the most powerfull rig outhere and a cod ripped singleplayer....followed by a borring tank sequence. Where is mp dice? Where are the airplanes and choppers?

There is a reason its a sequel. It introduces a ton of new features on top of the ones already had in Battlefield 3. Have you heard of coop campaigns in battlefield games? No you haven't.

I also think that this truly is the year that CoD sales go on the decline, that MW3 demo looked like average crap. There are too many good games coming out, especially BF3. I think the BF3 open beta should bring in sales too.

But nothing Battlefield 3 is doing is particularly special. Just better graphics. Not saying it wont be good but to suggest that which will sell better is important is bull crap. The world and the game industry will not change from it and certainly not an a positive or negative way. They're just making an new Battlefield, they aren't changing the world.

And Battlefield finally incorporating co-op campaign, a standard feature games have been including for much of this console generation is not impressive. Even if the morons are Infinity Ward and Treyarch still don't do it.

A niche genre? With 15 million people playing WoW alone?

WoW is the one exception. Name me another MMO as popular or even remotely close. And it's 11 million now not 15, WoW is slowly dieing.

Perfect World has 50 million people worldwide, in all versions. Look at League of Legends, for another example..

There are thousands of MMOs out there, be it RPGs, Racing or shooting. MMO games are the most popular form of gaming on the planet.. since Ultima Online.

I actually think MW3 will outsell Blackops.... Many who play Blackops do consider COD4, and MW2 the betters games. I dont see sales slowing down. I do think BF3 will sell a lot as well more that BC2 at least.

Nothing you listed hasn't been done before...

Lol what? Show me a game that has a physics engine at the level of battlefield 3 along with the destructibility of it. Also, show me a shooter that has better audio and animations? I'm waiting....

Exactly, sure all that has been done before, but has it all been done at the same time?! Yeah right, the closest thing was Bad Company 2, but this is just a whole new level. This is what I'd expect from the next gen consoles.

But nothing Battlefield 3 is doing is particularly special. Just better graphics.vashkey
Its BF2 with better graphics and modern aiming mechanics. So far all they showing is a cod ripped SP

WAW had coop. Its not that important

I do believe cod has better audio, many will dissagree, but cod games always got an award for their animation, everyone ignored that, when i said it so many times, its funny that now it started to matter.

-Sectional Vehicle damage -even better destruction than BFBC2 -suppression mechanic -TDM -Rush Pretty big changes from BF2 right there. COD has godawful audio, Frostbite just completely blows it out of the water when it comes to sound effects. Also seriously? After the blops free weekend pretty much everyone I game with was making fun of how bad the running and death animations were.

CoD game's animations are extremely prebaked and don't come across during multiplayer or in general gameplay, just during their scripted events. Though the single player in CoD is pretty much 100% scripted events that have you hit X to blow something up. The audio in CoD is also terrible. All of the guns sound like toys and are not effected by the environment.

MW2's epic soundtrack eclipses anything DICE has provided us with thus far. MW2 was also a global phenomenon, being mentioned in the news, selling over 20 million and scoring AAA, all of which BC2 failed to do.

[QUOTE="Lucianu"]

[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"] WoW is the one exception. Name me another MMO as popular or even remotely close. And it's 11 million now not 15, WoW is slowly dieing.

i5750at4Ghz

Perfect World has 50 million people worldwide, in all versions. Look at League of Legends, for another example..

There are thousands of MMOs out there, be it RPGs, Racing or shooting. MMO games are the most popular form of gaming on the planet.. since Ultima Online.

Well they are free. Not exactly the same as a pay to play MMO.

Doesn´t really matter if they´re paid or free to be honest, in terms of sheer numbers(money made and comunity size) it´s probably the most popular genre aside FPS´s these days, hardly what I would call niche.

actually aside from WoW they don't sell that well. Also Everyone knows BF3 will be a more high quality game. The battle is in the Marketing. They did ok with MoH despite it being an average game. Lets see what they can do with a AAA game this time.
