EA BLAMES HALO INFINITE FOR BATTLEFIELD 2042'S FAILURE

https://www.ggrecon.com/articles/ea-blames-halo-infinite-for-battlefield-2042s-failure/

I guess it makes sense. It's never smart to launch against the juggernaut that is Halo, especially when it swallows up 20 million players. Your thoughts SW? Should EA have been smart and wait until there was no competition to release the game? Maybe at least till this month, if not this upcoming winter.

According to leaker Tom Henderson, in an article for Xfire, the team at EA are saddling some of the blame for Battlefield 2042's fiscal failures on Halo Infinite.

Halo's recent multiplayer launch took a lot of players by surprise, and apparently EA were among the masses who didn't see it coming. As it turns out, EA's Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele has suggested that despite the game's supposed stable launch while "the early critical reception was good", it was Halo Infinite's multiplayer drop that turned the tide.

Supposedly, the comparison between the games was unfair as Halo was polished, and Battlefield wasn't with its bugs and glitches.

lol...didn't COD Vanguard also release at the same time?? On top of that, there were many stories of the developers complaining again and again how EA pushed the game for the holiday launch even though it was known to be unfinished, and a buggy hot mess. They just pulled a cyberpunk, did it to themselves.

I thought at one point they said the game was ready ahead of time? Maybe that was a different game.

how dare these bastards blame halo. The funny thing is that this isn't even the first time a company has blamed halo for their own products lack of success. EA has even done it before.

They aren't wrong, more people would have been duped otherwise. EA would still be in a bubble of thinking nothing is wrong with the game though.

This makes a pathetic launch look moreso with such a lame excuse.

Say you failed, strive to do better, and learn from your mistakes!

Specialists, scoreboard not being in the game, no cover in every map, 19 primary weapons, the shittiest hit reg ever seen by a human eye, WAY shittier graphics and atmosphere than BFV, garbage sound design, etc is all Infinite's fault btw.

Infinite is a messy game with incredibly outdated visuals and static environment. Its multiplayer has no content. Who's fault is that? BF2042's? No. Its 343i's fault. DICE=343i. Both studios need to be closed down and forgotten.

Seriously though, what a moronic excuse for a garbage launch.

Halo Infinite oozes quality, unsurpassed gunplay, lore, and most importantly, fun. Largest and most successful Halo to date. EA didn't get the memo. 343 invented the memo.

EA has time to fix what what they broke. Or scrap it and start over.

The only positive about BF2042 is that reddit has offered a lot of quality content and it keeps on giving.

Imagine releasing a game you're fully aware is complete shit then blaming someone else when no one wants to play.

I should know better than to even respond to this, but here I go...

Not only did BF2042 outsell Halo Infinite overall, it outsold Halo Infinite on Xbox...

And "largest and most successful Halo to date" is a loaded statement. It's the "largest" by playerbase. The multiplayer is free to play... It would be damn near impossible to release a game for free and not beat the past $60 games in playerbase metrics.

But really, the only company with a case for Halo Infinite impacting their sales is 343 and Xbox. Between Game Pass and the multiplayer being f2p, we are seeing Halo perform WORSE than it ever has in sales...

Ready, set, go!

@goldenelementxl: Halo Infinite is the most successful Halo to date launch aligned. Already over 20 million player. Game ratings have it as praised. Not to mention a multiplayer that is F2P, and a campaign included on Game Pass. No need to buy it.

I shouldn’t respond to his comments but I will. When did 2042 come to Game Pass?

Halo has always been a better game than Battlefield. That said, I buy some of this story, because it's how I make sense of some of the overwhelming positive response to Halo during the honeymoon period. CoD and Battlefield and Far Cry this year set the bar so fucking low, that a half finished Halo game came out smelling like roses and a return to form.

@goldenelementxl: do you actually think "units sold" is the most important factor here when one of the two game's multiplayer is free-to-play?..

Halo Infinite debuted at #2 on NPD for the SINGLE PLAYER, not the multiplayer.. your disengenous argument is disengenous..

Clearly this is talking about MULTIPLAYER count.. though the numbers aren't an exact comparison, Halo Infinite is boasting 20 million players and has been hovering around the top 5 on most played on Xbox since launch (+ or - 2).. Meanwhile Battlefield 2042 isn't in the top 50 on Xbox and EA is blaming their low performance on Halo Infinite..

And your response to this information is NPD sales from January when the games launched months ago??.. Dude, just stop.. You're legit barely worth responding to anymore

@Antwan3K: LMAO. You just can’t help yourself…

Infinite debuted at number 2, and then fell off a cliff. BF2044 was top 5 when Infinite launched, and surpassed it on Infinites second month on the market. It passed it on XBox platforms as well.

That’s the Jan NPD. The month after infinite launched… Don’t misrepresent the data. After a month and 3 weeks, Halo damn near fell out of the top 20.

Multiplayer count in this case doesn’t mean anything other than people downloaded a free product. Did they spend any money? Are they still playing it? Current lists on Steam and Xbox both show a downward trend. Just like the NPD numbers. But you’re enjoying it. I’m enjoying. The performance doesn’t dictate enjoyment or quality. But it does tell the big picture. And I’m sorry you don’t like the big picture…

Halo isn’t Halo anymore. Halo isn’t even Halo 5 levels of Halo anymore. More people bought Forza Horizon 5 in January than Halo Infinite… And they’re both in Game Pass. (And out of the top 15 software list. So much for Game Pass boosting sales)

Your narratives are falling like dominoes

@goldenelementxl: do you think "unit sales" is the most important factor when one of the two games' multiplayer is F2P?..

Follow-up, do you think "units sold" stats from January is more important than the current "Most Played" list on Xbox when discussing multiplayer?..

Answer those questions and we'll see why you "cant help yourself" when it comes to remotely positive Halo Infinite news..

@Antwan3K: Kotaku referencing a Forbes article from a week ago

”Halo Infinite is slipping. As firstreported by Forbes, 343 Industries’ popular shooter—the marquee Xbox game of this generation—has dropped out of the top fivemost-played games on Xbox, down from once upon a time holding fast in the top position.”

Sales data AND “most played” data are both showing a decline. The game launching in December. Let’s not act like it’s been on the market 6 months

Both questions have been addressed. It doesn’t matter which metric is more important, when both are illustrating my point. The game isn’t selling like series used to, and just a month after the campaign launch, is falling on the “most played“ list despite the free multiplayer. There are 3 f2p shooters above Halo Infinite on the Xbox most played list. And sure, games see a decline after launch. But Halo is supposed to be THE Xbox franchise. It barely charted in the top 20 in January. THE Xbox franchise...

Then there’s the Steam concurrent users stats (18k 24 hour peak vs 272k launch peak) and Twitch viewership free fall. We can argue which is the most important metric. Or if they’re important at all. We would probably agree on the ranking of the metrics. But EVERY metric is telling the same story. 📉⬇️

you literally still didn't answer the questions.. no one is disputing a decline from launch players (happens to nearly every game), no one is disputing that Halo F2P isn't on the level of F2P Fortnite, Apex, or Warzone (all Battle Royale games and all have years on Halo F2P)..

you are just spouting your usual nonsense when no one is even making those arguments.. you are the poster boy for a strawman at this point..

Bottom line, you posted NPD numbers from January as if they are supposed to mean something for a F2P multiplayer game that launched in December vs another paid multiplayer game that launched in November while ignoring that Halo Infinite is still around top 5 on Xbox while Battlefield 2042 isn't even in the top 50 in terms of most played Xbox games today and even EA is acknowledging Infinite as a contributing factor..

I mean, do you see Fortnite, Apex, or Warzone charting in January 2022 NPD, clown shoes?..

so I ask AGAIN:

do you think "unit sales" is the most important factor when one of the two games' multiplayer is F2P?..

Follow-up, do you think "units sold" stats from January is more important than the current "Most Played" list on Xbox when discussing multiplayer?..

simple yes or no questions.. if no, cool, you're not a complete clown.. if yes, please entertain us like the clown you are and elaborate.. 🤡

@Antwan3K: There’s nuance to both questions that you won’t entertain. Black and white, the answers are no answer no. But for a f2p game, revenue is more important than just active players. Active players is just potential. And Infinite has been slow on updates, missed the mark on progression and the battle pass, and the rollout of modes has been slow as well. But you don’t want to talk about that.

Fortnite, Apex, and Warzone dont care about NPD because they bring in a TON of money. They also have player bases that Infinite could only dream of. And those games didn’t lose their player base after 90 days on the market. They are still around their peak popularity at times. While Infinite is at like 5% of its peak popularity… And shrinking… In a fraction of the time on the market as the others…

And while EA is embarrassed by BF2044, it’s still outselling Halo Infinite. On Xbox… Let that sink in…

And you can keep your little clown jokes to yourself next time…

Nah, Halo Infinite died in two weeks or so, right? It's like blaming Anthem for Crackdown 3's faliure.

Not only that but Infinite is also to blame for the river of anti-fan tears...

They also said the low Steam review scores are because PC "suffered from some performance issues"

We are truly living in the age of misinformation and companies/politicians can say whatever they want because people (media) are too lazy to find out the truth for themselves anyway.

Doesnt matter. Battlefield is a PC centric game and we know that Halo Inifinite bombed on PC.
