Such as? There will be no NFL that's for sure.If EA wants to cede the WiiU sports genre to competitors, that's their perogative. There's always competitors who can fill the void.

[QUOTE="SecretPolice"]No, Nintendo would have to bleed money out the ass for that.Posted a loss last year and expect another loss this year. If they have to drop the price of the WiiU there should be yet another loss next year.EA... Wii U being Dreamcasted. :P

EA actually doesn't make an MLB game. Besides, all the WiiU need is Zelda and Mario, or so I'm told.Teh SP had nothing to do with writing that post  :P[QUOTE="SecretPolice"]
Unfortunately no, since EA owns exclusive rights to many of them, and the ones they don't own I doubt a developer will make a AAA game for Wii-U. (save for possibility Mario Tennis, Mario Soccer, Mario Golf, Mario Olympics etc - nobody is going to make a REAL game for Wii-U). The only compitiion for EA is basically 2K for basketball, and Sony makes a first party game for MLB. Is Nintendo going to make a 1st party sports "sim" of that quality?
I can't believe no Tiger Woods for Wii-U? I thought that the standalone Wii version always did well for them.
Also no NCAA, no NHL, no MLB, etc. Will 2K at least make NBA2K for Wii-U? This could be a pretty damning loss for the Wii-U if it ends up lacking all of these games, not sure if EA means they would even stop producing Madden and Fifa at some point? If they drop those, that's actually a pretty big deathblow for any console considering these games are played by 10's of millions. Maybe in a year or two they will sing a different tune if the Wii-U turns it around.

And there goes their third party support.
tonitorsi
yes sadly.
No Dead Space, No Dragon Age, No Mass Effect, No Battlefield, No Burnout, No Mirror's Edge, the list goes on. EA is a huge asset to have for 3rd Party.
a Shame too, I was hoping this would have been the first Nintendo system to get Battlefield.
Hmm. Just thought about it. EA sports games aren't even any good, for the most part. Perhaps wiiu will get better football from 2ksports? HeirrenThere is no football game from 2K sports.

but won't get the Next Mass Effect.
Remember any EA game that just happens to be on WiiU Now will not be on WiiU later because of this.
EA holds a grudge and when they do they mean it. They will not go back to Nintendo and it's all because they didn't get their way with their deal back in 2011.
You should talk to them about the Wii'u incredible lighting and draw distance/scale that's currently available![QUOTE="Heil68"][QUOTE="super600"]
Why do I have a feeling that they are doing this because of their failure to bring origin to the WiiU.

You're starting to become really annoying.
Why? You have been pretty adamant about the Wiiu's next gen capabilities? You becoming shy all of a sudden?[QUOTE="fernandmondego_"][QUOTE="Heirren"]Hmm. Just thought about it. How will 2K provide a better football game when they don't make one and EA has the right to the NFL. They tried making one without the NFL license and I don't think they will try that again. Â Specially for the WiiU.

It makes sense. Wiiu won't be able to run the latest engines. Can't really blame then.HeirrenHow can you judge the WiiU won't be able to run the latest engines if it was just released recently?

This could mean that Nintendo is basically forced to go into the direction that I wanted them to go into anyway: Supporting Indi and themselves rather than whimsical 3rd party games that are available everywhere anyway. This would have happened at some point anyway, as MS is paying money to steer away 3rd party support to their platform, and you cannot compete with MS in terms of money. It would be more than royalties. Nintendo already struggling to move WiiU's what happens when everyone fines out that they can't play sports games on it?

It's sure to cost them something but I don't think it would be dramatic aside from the loyalty fees. If you were to buy a platform to play EA sports titles, it would probably not be a Wii U. The others will have better graphics and probably better online support. Nintendo needs to focus on bringing something else than the others. The exclusive library of their competitors is likely to suck pretty badly.

They don't have a total monopoly. Sony is the only one making successful baseball games, and 2K Games is the only one making successful basketball games. Also, I'm pretty sure Konami still gives them a lot of competition on the soccer genre, which is big outside of the US (correcy me if I'm wrong, since I'm not really a sports guy).I wish EA didn't hold a monopoly of the sports game genre
IPWNDU2
EA has a monopoly on football games, however the sports genre is a lot more compartmentalized today than it used to be. In the old days, every publisher had their own officially licensed game for every type of sport, but now it's gotten to the point where there's only room for one giant marketing machine for each type of sports game every year, and that means that now you have EA controlling football, Sony controlling baseball, 2K controlling basketball, etc, and everyone else's efforts with those sports are either drowned out or they don't exist anymore.
Still, losing Madden is a HUGE blow to Nintendo, because that is not only one of the biggest third party game franchises on the market, but it's also a game that could potentially utilize the Wii U's control pad in a way that would actually be useful (selecting and creating plays on the touch screen). Losing EA's sports games is part of what led to the demise of the Dreamcast, so this is a pretty big deal.

I'm pretty sure MLB2k is a profitable franchise. Fifa is pretty big in the US as well. Madden is indeed a huge loss but they also from the looks of it wont get any MLB, NFL, NHL, NCAA or TIger Woods game and there is no guarantee that they will get an NBA game. Those games sell pretty well year after year, so it's a huge chunk of gamers that would have to choose to either go with another console or by more than one system. The way EA is acting, they might soon drop all support all together (probably when the other two consoles release and it's no longer the case of a cheap port). Even worse is that there is no indication that 2K will be supporting it either.Who plays sports games anyway?King_DodongoLOL what kind of question is this? Millions of people play and buy them. Between Madden, Fifa and all the other sports titles out there.
Looks like the Dreamcast all over again.
The difference being that Nintendo can survive without EA's sports games.

[QUOTE="SecretPolice"]Just so ya know, I don't think EA can DC the U but yes, there were many contributing factors to the DC demise and having EA withhold support was a biggie for many thinking about buying a DC but then decided not to based on EA games not being offered.Even then, EA didn't help anyone buy a Nintendo system outside of SSX On Tour and NBA Street Volume 3, which failed miserably. The Wii U will be fine with or without EA.
