"But if you're looking for companies that we admire and might well keep us up at night, I think about companies like Ubisoft, that made a quicker and more forceful move against the Wii and Nintendo DS, and that's showing in their results. [They're] insightful, and they create an awfully large number of great titles. No question, there's a lot to admire there."

lol I guess they are going to release the same kind of "quality" then.

kage_53

They should cause Ubisoft learned their lesson and they're going to start producing high quality games for the Wii. Heck, even the president of Ubisoft came out and said that that would be their number 1 priority.

Of course EA says they backed the wrong horse. All they care about is money.

EA is the Donald Trump of the gaming world. They don't care about innovation, game/genre advancement....all they want is money and this has been proven several times before. Come on, not that hard to figure out why they're saying this crap. The Wii is the hottest seller, so that's what they'll support with mediocre games. Hurray!

wii may be good for the industry, maybe it will become popular for 80% of devs to make cheap ungly games for the casuals.

then games like MGS4 and RE5 will really stand out. brining the demand for awesome games way up.

MikeE21286

If the Wii is popular they will put quality games on it because they know they will sell. I don't care how popular any council is if a game is bad that means few people will buy it. Developers are now just realizing how much money they came make off of the Wii if them make quality games for it.

How are they realizing this?

By announcing it like EA just did.

c'mon, now you guys don't want me to post the MASSIVE list of 3rd party games that are going to be on PS3and 360 but NOT on Wii.

goodlay

Look up "gain" in the dictionary. After that, look up "have."

You may find that they are not the same.

Exactly what we try to tell cows when it comes to 2007 vs. 2008 threads.

Well it looks like Cows and Sheep are in the same boat.

Cows are waiting for 2008 guaranteed mega hits and Sheep are waiting, hoping that maybe they'll get a good new 3rd party game.

LOL, well so do Cows, and they also have guaranteed games that will be good to play in 08 as well. I don't see the same for the Wii

Please show me the amazing 360 08 line up, wait no one knows yet. You have no idea what is going to happen next year line up wise, wait and criticize the Wiis 08 line up until at least E3 :|

Cows =/= 360.....read again.

In their quarterly financial statements. Also, Activision has surpassed EA as the top third party publisher in the first half of this year. The main reason: they did not support the Wii enough so their profits were down and this opened the gates for Activision to storm pass them with Guitar Hero 2.

The only reason I think all the games are going PS360 is because both install bases combined outsell the Wii. When the Wii outsells PS3 and 360 combined for about 3 months and the Wii's 3rd Party will be at max power. So you can expect a lot of 3rd Parties jumping on the Wii after holiday season ;)

No matter what happens, I'll never care about the Nintendo Wii. They can outsell every console and steal all of the third-party support in the Universe, but it's not like the Wii will have the samequality of third-party support as the 360 or PS3. EA sees easy money, because with the Wii's hardware they're not obligated to pour funding into decent graphics, A.I., or, hell, even gameplay anymore. Because of the fact that the majority of Wii gamers are mostly casual, they know they don't care.

If I were a game publisher, I'd be switching gears, too.

The games will come. You can't base an entire gen's library on launch titles. And like I previously insinuated, it takes time to make quality games.

What I'm saying is this: given that, in my opinion, most of the Wii's gamers are casual and have previously never played games before, their idea of quality is different than, say, someone who has played games a lot in the past. So they're not expecting much in the first place.

So, I figure that those developers creating games for the Wii have this in mind (many of them, anyway), and so they aren't feeling as pressured to give their best.

I mean, this is all in my opinion -- I haven't seen one game for the Wii that looks decent, aside from first-party titles.

They had better bring more than just theirlame sports games to the Wii table. The Wii already has more than enough games that don't interest me.

I'm sure developers know that the people who buy the most games are the hardcore gamers, so there are plenty of reasons to make good games

The PS3 and 360 will still get the best games from third parties.

they're saying, " damn! we should have made crappy ports/mini-games for the Wii so that we could have made lots of money. who cares about making better games for 360/PS3. all we want is money,"

Damn, has EA ever even PRETENDED not to care solely about money? At least other publishers will act like the games and the consumers matter to them, too, even if they don't. But EA couldn't care less. This is the same company that signed an exclusivity deal with the NFL to bar other companies from making NFL games, because the 2K series was better than Madden towards the end there.

That only serves to ruin things for gamers, since less competition (actually, no competition) means they can release lazy ass updates to their franchises (look at the past two Maddens). They also tried to pull that same stunt with the NBA, who were basically like "uh, no." Such an incredible lack of ethical integrity. EA is like the Fox News of video game publishers.

Lack of Wii support? I thought they were doing a great job already but if there's more bring it on.

If I were a game publisher, I'd be switching gears, too.

r11011b

What your saying makes no sense at all. If a council is popular chances are it will recieve most of the quality games, your talking as if devs are stupid or something. Developers know that they only make money if the game is good.

Let me simplify that for you and everyone here:

Good game + popular council = A LOT OF $$$

Bad Game + popular council = little $$$

Good game+ unpopular council = little $$$

What I'm saying is this: given that, in my opinion, most of the Wii's gamers are casual and have previously never played games before, their idea of quality is different than, say, someone who has played games a lot in the past. So they're not expecting much in the first place.

So, I figure that those developers creating games for the Wii have this in mind (many of them, anyway), and so they aren't feeling as pressured to give their best.

I mean, this is all in my opinion -- I haven't seen one game for the Wii that looks decent, aside from first-party titles.

Most of the people on this board who own a Wii have played games before. Plus even if someone is a noob to games they still appreciate quality and creativity its not like they're stupid either.

lmao talk about ownage... before you all come in and say EA sucks... keep in mind they're one of the biggest publishers in the world and where they go... everybody else goes.

Here that sound?

That's the sound of the Wii stealing all of your third party support.

"[This transition has been] harder because of the complexity," Riccitiello said, "and harder because unfortunately, we bet a little bit on the wrong horse in focusing so much on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and to a lesser degree on the Wii. And let me assure you that almost all of us in the industry made the same judgment. So after so many transitions of guessing exactly right, we got this one a little bit wrong and we're dealing with that now with strong investments on the Wii."

One of those investments--a studio dedicated to developing specifically for the Wii--was announced roughly a week after Nintendo's system launched.

EA probably thought to back the consoles that would give them the most freedom as game developers. Silly company.AfterShafter

The Wii doesn't give developers freedom? It only lets them try new things... instead of doing the same thing for years, upgrading graphics and physics.

The "same things" that developers have done "for years" have allowed this industry to move from Pong to what we have now. Believe it or not, a big jump in console power each generation has allowed TREMENDOUS gameplay and gameconcept advances. The Wii is the first console released since before the NES that didn't allow a significant generation tech leap. Yes, it gives less freedom for game developers in that area, and decades of gaming development show that that area is DAMNED IMPORTANT.

you know what theres already a topic about how wii isn't ruining the games.but that arguemtn is only true from a basic software sales arguement. If you take the arguement from a hardware perspective then the verdict will be different. I happened to own a wii but I will only be aware of the controls for about an hour most.afterwards I just become abosrbed in the gameplay just like any other gamer.and at which point the novelty of the new controls wear off. actualy sometimes the wii mote was intrusive in gameplay when compared to the keyboard or gamepad!!

How is going where the money is ownage? EA likes to make money, which is shown by their releasing of new versions of their games every year. They want to make more money, so they go to what's making lots of money: the Wii.

AfterShafter

Means the gamer gets owned. If they can make money cutting quality, they will... The Wii is letting companies do this pretty well. Thank Heaven we at least have Nintendo making quality games for it, because everyone else is shoveling piles full of manure on it and hoping something beautiful will grow.

Aren't they making aMoH or CoD game for the Wii specifically? I saw a video a while ago and the graphics sucked noodles but the gameplay looked solid. I hope for EA's sake that whatever game they make using their big franchise names, that the graphics are far better then the garbage that was Call of Duty 3. We know the Wii is capable of much better then what they provided as seen in Metroid Prime 3.

Man, I agree. ESPN NFL 2K5 was the best football game ever. I'm gonna start hyping All Pro Football 2K9 AA and NFL 2K10 AA to AAA. No, really.

Good enjoy your Boogie and Wii Playground from EA.

EA is still releasing Half Life 2 (yes I know they didnt make it, but they publish it) and better games for true next gen consoles that can run it.

Considering EA releases more casual trash then any 3rd party company out I think Wii would be perfect for them as it is the home of casual trash.
