The thing is at least for me price isn't scalable like that. Its either too expensive or just right.

Sure its MUCH better than what it was on Ebay and such, but its still an older game on an older machine. I'm no nut job when it comes to this kind of stuff (aka those guys who buy these games for 100+ on Ebay imo), so I kind of want a price to reflect that.

lundy86_4

I understand to an extent, though there is still a cost to cover, and profit to be made. At the end of the day, the price is pretty reasonable.

True. I know nothing of their practices or how much money is being used for these games, and they will get plenty of customers with this price though for sure, so its not my position to tell them that they are wrong to mark it up that high. For me though, its not a price I can go with.

If I was a business I would set prices up for demand, royalties, and costs too. As a consumer though its like highway robbery since I can get much newer Steam games for half that.

However, can you get  this  game for cheaper than $10? I understand that, because of that, they could charge more... However, in comparison, it's still ridiculously cheap.

[QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"] Not happening especially outside of Japan.FlamesOfGrey

I didnt say it was happening, I said call me if it does happen because thats the only interest Id have in buying the games.

Besides, people spent years saying it earthbound wouldnt even come out at all, yet here we are. So there is always a chance, even if it is slim.

Nintendo releasing an old SNES game on Virtual Console is completely different from them making a 3 game compilation and localizing it with the rights for Western Territories. Not to mention they already have a Mother compilation on the GBA that was never going to and didn't leave Japan but you can always have hope I guess, carry on.

lol you just don't seem to get what he is saying.

[QUOTE="Zassimick"]The moment I am off work I'll be downloading the game. Can't wait. Also should be getting Darksiders II for Wii U today as long as it comes in. The Wii U is getting a ton of time spent with it now and it'll only increase by the end of the year. Really enjoying it. :)idill23
If you don't mind me asking , how much did you get DS2 for?

Selling a few games to get it but I won't pay a dime myself. Right around $30 tho. There are deals elsewhere, some making it extremely cheap, but it's been difficult to find a WiiU copy so I'm willing to pay the little bit extra for that off-screen play. :P

Now think about what effect would a fully new EB game have for WiiU.

Oh wait, it'll never happen...

I just noticed something. The original ESRB rating for EarthBound was KA - Kids to Adults (the early version of E for Everyone), but the Wii U version has it re-rated T for Teen.

I dont get the hype of earthbound. now be honest, from what I saw on the trailer it just seems like a standard jrpg. So honestly, is this just a nostalga thing like with killer instinct?

It'd be difficult to make any game "look" like a masterpiece from the SNES days. I've never played the game, but from what I understand it's a mix between the solid gameplay, good story and quirkiness/weird nature the game carries.

The hype may also be attributed to the game's rarity and potential. Not everyone pirates, so many of us haven't had the opportunity to play this game. Furthermore, if it sells well on the Wii U eShop there's potential that they'll bring the other games in the series to regions that have never seen those games, or maybe even produce a new installment. That's enough to raise the hype of people who have played the game already. :P

But why would you compare a rom to a real copy? You should be comparing it to other games on the virtual console. Why should you pay twice the price because they digitalized the guide?

$10.00 for a DD game that is almost 20 years old will not lower any prices it will raise it. Think like Ebay people.

It was rated by ESRB in 2008, clearly they had it optimized with the Wii in mind and moved it to Wii U instead of changing things around and putting it on 3DS.

There is that, naturally. Is this overly expensive, in comparison to other games on the Virtual Console? At the end of the day, you can  absolutely  take into account, the cost for playing this game elsewhere.

I don't think so. If that were the case, it would at least have released on the Virtual Console in Japan, but it did not. I assume the problem was with music rights and stuff.

I'm guessing the ESRB actually bothered to make it to the end of the game this time. :P

I honestly think it was because Nintendo didn't think anyone would bother.

Trust me its not a matter of if it sells well, it will. There are many fans that love that game. Earthbound is as popular as FF7 was before digital version were released on psn and xbox live (if they ever did, im not sure). SNES cartridges of Earthbound sells as high as 200 bucks (guess they wont be selling as much now)

Most that try playing the game have the same opinion because the game starts very slow.

Actually, people should keep this very close in mind, if you're interested in Earthbound as first time players - the beginning is boring, slow and uninteresting. Wile playing, it'll slowly get more and more interesting in some areas, wile boring, again, in other areas.

By the time you pass Belch's Factory (pretty boring area, also roughly a quarter of the game), the game practically gets extraordinarily good 'till the very end. It's not only worth playing, but also an amazing, fantastic experience.

Just stick with it until you get pass Belch. The game is very unique and has aged extremely well because there's nothing like it that actually improved upon it except Mother 3 (Earthbound 2).

Wierd, I never found the start of Earthbound to be boring at all.. Pulled me in right from the start.

For me a game like Neverwinter Nights2, Planscape Torment, Risen 1 or Shenmue2 started off slow for me, but I enjoyed them a ton as they went along, Earthbound not so much to be honest.

Just downloaded it and I must say, after looking at this game and Super Metroid I'm amazed at how well the Super Nintendo graphics hold up and somehow actually manage to look nice on an HDTV, unlike PSone, PS2, N64, DC, Xbox and GC.
