"Natal will launch in the US this October with a price tag of $149.

That's according to a trusted source, who told us that the motion sensing camera will also be bundled with the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $299.

We were informed that prices outside of the US would be determined based on a number of factors, including exchange rates. Based on current rates, the standalone unit would retail for £103 / €121, and the console and Natal bundle for £207 / €243.

The figure for the standalone unit is significantly higher than a previous sub-£50 estimate, but less than pricing recently suggested by European retailers. It's also more expensive than Sony's Natal rival Move, which will be available later this year with a game for less than $100.

Our source said that the device has been pencilled in for an October 26 worldwide launch, although we were advised that the date could yet shift by a few weeks either way.

We were also told Microsoft's camera definitely won't be called Natal and that its proper title will be revealed at E3 next month. It will also be heavily targeted at causal players and families.

"Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers," our source said. "A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360's controller-free revolution."

When contacted about this report, Microsoft told us that it "does not comment on rumour or speculation"."

I think it could get away with that price point if had a really good upcoming line up. Something I doubt it will probably have.

Thats what i'm thinking, and i dont see MS pricing themselves out of the "gimmick" market since they've made such a huge fuss about Natal. We'll see i suppose.

The perfect situation is that they do well and leave normal gaming untouched. The great thing about Move is that it slot in into current games, so even more reason for it to do well.

Seems reasonable, since to get far below the same functionality, you have to buy a eyetoy camera and PS3 Move controller, and still not have as adanced camera or hands free gaming

It's still just speculation.

That being said, to put the price into context, if the standalone unit is $149 it's 3/4 the price of the Wii...

I can see it being a hit though, but the chances are slim, they are going to have bundle some quality software, or sell it at a discount with new 360s.

if it has uses on the PC, and is compliant with 4-players, then people might get their money's worth. seeing as you won't need to buy 3 additional controllers.

not sure if this has the on-board processor, but it would be a little more justifiable if it still does.

If this is true this is a big time fail. $149 for an add-on. I wonder how much it will cost bundled with the Elite? I know the article mentioned the arcade bundle at $299.

$150.00? I'd rather buy a couple of games for $120.00. Not that I am interested in Natal anyway, but even if I was, that is simply too expensive for an add-on.

I would buy an elite bundled with natal at $299. Not sure I would pay more than that though. Maybe if the slim rumour is true I would since hopefully that would be better built product than the current 360's(Jasper models included). Funny they didn't mention the Elite package so maybe there is some truth to the rumoured Slim 360.

There is some internal processor but Xbox still have to do some calculations ~15% of CPU power.

Some people are obviously forgetting that you have to pay $100 for a lousy WiFi adapter. It shouldn't be a surprise that Natal will be more expensive than that.

Wifi adapter, extra HDD, all that stuff is optional and isnt new tech that MS are trying to push. Natal is a big thing for them and its a new technology they want to be a success, so i dont see them pricing themselves out of the market.

That is bad. I'd rather buy DS or PSP than natal with that price. I was considering buying it if under 70 euro or so.

Anyway I bet microsoft is overpricing natal like they have all their accessories.

Well to be fair, you only have to buy one add-on to enjoy 4-players for Natal. They same cannot be said for Move.

I doubt I'll touch natal. I have a huge TV upstairs that my PS3 is connected to so I'll probably just get move instead (I can only connect one console to the TV because I have the other ports filled on the TV)

Natal looks way more gimmicky.

Why not just get the wii instead because it has a great lineup already unless you hate their games.

The only interesting thing about Natal is the voice recognition, and body recognition it does. The actual idea of having no controller works with games like soccer, but it wouldn't work with FPS or games where you should actually be holding something. $150 wouldn't seem so bad, if they actually have good games to play it with. If it's mostly soccer games, and Natal Fit +, then it's too expensive.

Not sure if they'll sell a whole lot of them with that price. I'm going to wait until I've seen Natal with my own eyes before I pass my final judgement on it, but I think it's pretty save to say it's not for me.

Natal is targeted to the casual audience, which means, the more we don't like it, the better chance it has to sell (if it works well).

Which sounds kinda silly. There's similar speculation that the 360 Arcade will drop to $149 by this holiday season (probably along with a redesign with no HDD ability--recall the USB drive update), meaning no bundle discount as would be the norm.

Nintendo won't drop that price unless they can sell the Wii at an outright profit at $149. That may not happen, as the launch price was marginally profitable, the price only dropped recently, and the components are already at the commodity stage, meaning their wholesale costs probably won't drop much more.

Lol such a fail idea this Natal is. The thing is made for casuals and at 149.99 i don't think it'll sell very well to those *casuals*. If it was 79.99 (max) i see lots of soccer mom's buying it but at high price i just see them sticking with Wii Fit.

PS3 implies an HDTV. Wiis and HDTVs aren't on the friendliest of terms especially if all you have free is an HDMI port (plus, as the poster said, ports are full). However, there's always the possibility of using a switch (such as an HDMI switch) to add more ports and enable use of the 360.

Honestly, if that 299 arcade bundle is true, and if that's the only arcade sku out there, that's great news for Sony.

Wow it seems MS is overpricing extra hardware again and services again ($100 wifi huh? hdd prices, live) but consider me unsurprised by this price.
