Dear fellow gamers,

these are bad news for ALL gamers, not only for the lemmings among us! Lets hope M$ won't serve as a model for other console manufacturers/game publishers. This is a trend I refuse to follow (PC/MAC Diablo 3 ftl).

What are your thoughts?

Yours sincerely

If this is true, the MS is going to enjoy the pain Nintendo, SEGA, and Sony have all suffered (N64, GameCube, Saturn, PS3).

And some people would defend this practise from Microsoft. As if introducing the idea of paying to play online gaming wasnt enough, when will this corporate greed end, like for real?

So far I haven't heard a single good thing about the Durango.  It just makes you wonder what the hell MS are doing.   Surely they have something positive to show to gamers that will counter all the hype Sony and the PS4 have created.  I find it hard to believe that MS will just let Sony steamroll all over them.

Because when they take the servers down after the following XBox is released, your console is a paperweight and your games are coasters.

It will also allow them to bind games to xbla accounts.

Different configuration or not, it still doesnt change their intent. There is nothing wrong with creating your own unique models, but for the love of heaven, do not make or potray your firm as a corporate DEMON. Even the founder of Microsoft Gill Bates understands the need to engage all Stakeholders and not just make stupid decisions because ''theres alot of money to be made''. Like for real, when you some of the practises of the Xbox brand, you just wonder if they even know who their consumers are at all?, do they even do Market research at all?

Always online = games tied to xbla accounts, no used games = massive profits.

Both last xboxes have been plagued by piracy, always online could possibly eliminate this.

Advertising, direct immediate advertising to every xbox in the world at the same time.

Netfix etc. always online means all xbox customers would also be potential customers for a host of other media streams.

It will be targeted advertising.

For example, if Kinect sees you're eating something it will play food ads.

If it sees you're making out with your loved one, it will play diaper ads.

And so on ...

They are just following precedent, consumers have demonstrated that they are willing to pay for such things, look at the current Live model.

We are to blame, the royal 'we' as in the consumer who in essence teach these corporations how to behave.

Our insider described the screengrabs from the Durango SDK on vgleaks.com as entirely legitimate, although they contain much of the same information we revealed on February 6th, and were circulated to developers working with the console last year.

 Cows (reguarding 720):

"Lololol lems u stupid. Microsoft is too far along to improve their specs.  The console is set in stone lolol  "

Cows(reguarding PS4):

"Buu....buu...the Killzone 3 demo was made using a dev kit with only 1.5gb of Vram.  Developers didnt have the new devkits until January . Some developers didnt even know the official specs "

That is just pathetic if thats what they base this model from, any firm in the 21st century should know marketing research is way more important now than it as ever been. Just because consumers adopted the previous model before doesnt mean they are or were happy with it especially considering the competitors have those at advantage (PC/Nintendo/Sony). I really hope it comes back to bite them hard because the kind of practices they are trying to introduce since they joined the gaming industry has not been a good one

I have a feeling Microsoft will recognize their mistake and change this by the time the console is released. Surely they'll pay attention to the backlash this will cause if this is real and they announce this.

Why is an always on always connected device a bad thing?

NFJSupreme

you lose internet? no games

go over bandwidth limit? no games

maybe some people have really bad internet and someone in another room is watching netflix, you try to sign in on the next xbox but you keep getting errors because someone else is taking up all the bandwidth.

so many senarios could go wrong but i wouldn't mind it if any system had always online im used to having problems with steam and my internet.

DISSESHOWEDO

Because there are parts of the world where there is no i-net !

You guys are silly or just not very imaginative. PC's are also always on and always connected. At least mine is. I never turn it off. That doesn't mean it doesnt work without the internet does it? I can still play notepad without an internet connection, right?

I personally want to be able to touch my controller then go right to the content/game i'm looking for with no boot up.

Not sure what you're getting at. Yeah, a lot of people leave their PCs on all the time, but that doesn't mean they need a constant internet connection to play their games. Also, I, for one, do not leave my PC on all the time, because that's bad for it, and I don't mind 30 seconds of boot up time. Not a big deal.

Hmm...i see MS have been living under a rock for the last few months!

Why is an always on always connected device a bad thing?

NFJSupreme

Because:

1. Not every one has internet connections.

2. Internet is not 100% reliable. I don't want to not be able to play my singleplayer games if my connection goes down.

i do not see the logic behind always online, the negatives outweigh the positives (which there are none)campzor
Then it raises the question...what services does MS have lined up server side that are compelling enough to prompt them to go with the always-online model? They must have an answer to that (or feel they have one) to feel justified in attempting this. The 720 reveal just got very interesting.
