You state "smart business decision" and then say it's better to have it release in Feb.

Ok, ask any retailer around the world how much business they do the last 2 months of the year. Now ask how much business they do in Feb. The problem is if you are basing it on a "smart business decision" the best stratedgy is to release it during a time where people are SPENDING money. On a time where people are trying to decide if they should buy the PS3 or not.

Lionheart08

Devil May Cry 4 and GTA IV both released in the post-Holiday "dead time" this year and both were very nice successes at the registers.

If KZ2 sold as much as DMC4 it should be considered a FAILURE....DMC4 has only sold a little over a million copies. .

I thought DMC4 broke a million on both consoles. :|

Why would I include X360 numbers? Is the X360 going to be able to play KZ2? If not their numbers mean nothing.

Devil May Cry has sold more than a million copies on both the 360 and PS3. Its over 2 million sold, not including PC sales.

As I said to the previous poster, why would you count X360 numbers? Is KZ2 a multiplat game or something? Or are you guessing every Lem is going to buy a PS3 and Killzone 2 when it's released?

Because those are DMC's sales number? And it shows a game can sell well in the Spring.

If you enjoy being bleak, KZ2 has to break a million units sold just to recoop its budget alone, while the original KZ sold 750,000.

Oh and I like the comparison to GTA4 and KZ2........one franchise sold over 10 million units of the previous installment and the other sold less than a million.

The fact that the only big game I've ever seen released the past 8 years in a non-holiday time period is GTA4 says a lot. They can get away with it because its GTA.......you can't say that with Killzone.

Once again, games such as Lost Planet & GOW say that you're wrong. And no game that sells a million copies can be considered a failure, period. That's the milestone that most developers look to reach... anything above that is just further icing on the cake.

I really can't get excited for KZ2. It looks like a bland amalgamation of every generic FPS over the past few years.

Sure it looks pretty good, but I don't give a crap about realism.

It was delayed because sony new it would have to go up against GEOW 2,and it would get creamed.

They're already sacrificing Resistance 2,so it'll take some of the heat away for when KZ 2 and its disgusting PS2 textures hit the shelves.

GabeNewellsPie

Some lemmings are SO stupid. Why would Sony care about Gears 2? People with a PS3 aren't going to care about a 360 game when it comes time to decide which games to buy this holiday season! Sony's games are competing against Sony's games. Plus, Resistance 2 is shaping up to be the better game compared to KZ2 OR Gears 2... Sony has nothing to fear.

they said it plays good too.

plus most shooters are generic. Gears, COD4, Resistance 2 I would call all those pretty generic. Though all were fun.

are u crazy? first of all the article was positive, so how does that equate to "it will flop"? And quite the contrary, money CAN buy talent. Why do you think Chelsea has some of the best players on its team?

Money can't buy talent. Just ask the NY Yankees.

 just 10,000,000 dollars. Nothing big

I bet half the budget was spent on Cliffy B's fake tan and protein shakes.

I didn't like CoD4, I thought it was boring. Gears was pretty good, but it's not the life-changing experience all ofthe fanboys are making it out to be...

Yes it can.

Plus it can buy more of that talent. So instead of one person working on one gun, you have 10, one for the sights, one for the grip ect. so more is put into everything.

money can = better games. its common sense.

Wrong, this is a big budget game. Just selling a million would be considered a failure, period.

Lost Planet sold what, 1.5 million on the X360 releasing in Jan. That's actually pretty good for that low budget game....and yes it's a LOW BUDGET game compared to KZ2. If KZ2 only sold 1.5 million it wouldn't even make it's money back (remember we have to include not only developement time but MARKETING dollars for the game).

God Of War 2....barely over 2 million sold. Sony might barely make its money back with those sales (for this particular game). As much as Cows would like to think, God Of War series wasn't a big seller compared to the installed base of the PS2. The PS2 had a hundred million install base and it barely sold 2 million for the second installment? If the PS3 can't sell more hardware it won't even reach that for part 3.

The biggest sellers for the PS2, almost all were released in the 4th qtr. The only noteable series I can remember that didn't was Gran Tursimo, which usually released in the summer time (and I doubt KZ2 is going to be as causual friendly as this game). God Of War is actually ranked below games like Need For Speed or Star Wars Battlefront which I find funny.

Im still a bit cynical, but it does look nice.

Cant really judge the game now, but if I do happen to get a PS3, id consider buying it - I didnt mind the first (not bad, not great, just average).

I dont have a link because this is from the EGM cover story issue that just hit shelves last week but basically they had nothing but good things to say about the game about how the explosion and particle effects are so realistic its scary, its very engaging and accesible, It always feels like you are in a epic battlefield of huge proportions and last but not least they also said that the game looks and plays so beautifully that they are very suprised it was delayed!!

The Dev then goes on to admitting that when they first started out that there where very low budget and had a very small team, this time around they have tons of money and support from great sony devs such as Insomniac and even the same Devs that brought us God Of War are helping them out.. They also said they are addressing ALL concerns from the first game and complaints people had about not being able to jump, clunky controls and very bad A.I and saying all that will not only be "fixed" this time around but vastly improved!!! I really have high hopes for this game now!! If EGM out of all people are saying this game already plays so beautifully that no delay is needed, thats really saying a lot!!!

What month was this issue!? I have the July issue, isn't it the latest?

depends if you hire a creative person... :P

though it sort of does. The more people you have working on one project, the more ideas from people you will have. 100's of minds is better than one.
