All i know is that it sucks hard when i run out of juice for my PSP on a long car trip or plane ride. Other than that its ok. 3DS should be fine. It does sound like it will be stopping people from buying one though.

5 hrs is a little low... What if the 3d is turned off and sound off and low brightness? Still 5 hrs?XenoLairpretty much still 5 hours apparently. it's like the system max or something.

Still 5 hrs?XenoLair3D on, Wi-fi on, brightness unknown, mid-high? is 3 hours. 3D off, Wi-fi off, brightness mid level, seems to be 5 hours. That's basically what I know from reading the gaf thread, there are no extensive battery life reviews like this one for PSP in 2004: http://psp.ign.com/articles/574/574557p6.html You could find multiple of those back then, journalism is a joke today. The overall 3DS review at IGN was 2 pages long and left out key features.

3-5 hours is with everything turned up to 11 (full brightness with WiFi and 3D enabled). For comparison, that's about the same play time you'll get out of a DSi on the brightest setting.
[QUOTE="Snugenz"]Constant recharging reduces the amount of total charge the battery can hold.dzimm
That was true back in the day when rechargable batteries used nickel cadmium, but lithium ion batteries are considerably more robust and don't suffer from the "memory effect".
This is true, you can play while recharging. Same with DS.I'll pay any price for the upcoming 3DS lineup really, it's not about stereo 3D for us core gamers.I'm having a hard time justifying paying $250 for a gimmick. A gimmick with bad 3D that requires optimal positioning of the screen for best results. I'll stick to my DSi until Nintendo comes out with the real next gen DS, without 3D.

[QUOTE="Merex760"]I'll pay any price for the upcoming 3DS lineup really, it's not about stereo 3D for us core gamers. The problem is it's a $150-$175 device retailed at $250 because of bad 3D. You're paying $80 extra for a gimmick that shouldn't even be there. The launch lineup hasn't exactly been getting the "omgawesome" reviews everyone was expecting so far either.I'm having a hard time justifying paying $250 for a gimmick. If you turn the 3D off you have just that, sorry.I'll stick to my DSi until Nintendo comes out with the real next gen DS, without 3D.

I have a feeling many folks won't be using the 3D function much simply because it drains the battery so fast.TheMoreYouOwnI think a website already confirmed that the 3D slider does not effect battery life.
I'm more concerned with the fact that the 3DS takes longer to load DS games. WTF?
Yeah...I could never rely on my PSP if I took a long trip or flight. DSL was much better for long trips. All i know is that it sucks hard when i run out of juice for my PSP on a long car trip or plane ride. Other than that its ok. 3DS should be fine. If you want a stronger battery, keep in mind that they would have to make 3DS significantly bigger to fit such a battery and the system would cost more. Given these counterarguments that I've presented, I still think 3 hours with 3D on is not great and I understand people being upset. However you are getting amazing stereo 3D without glasses on the go for a relatively low price.SuperFlakeman
Not entirely true the 3ds battery is 1,300mah there are batteries that have higher capacity with smaller dimensions.
Seidio has a 1,750mah battery thats smaller than the one on the 3ds, I wish they were making a battery for 3ds. Heck I'd buy a super extended one.
It boils down to this: When Nintendo does something that sucks the fans have every excuse in the world for why it's ok. When it's Sony or Microsoft it becomes the end of the friggin world to them. Wii has no HD..who needs it. 3DS has low battery..who needs it. Wii has no multiplats...who needs them. Etc. etc. etc. Bread_or_DecideDont forget, consoles ports are cool when it's the 3DS, not the NGP.

Kinect and Move is one such thing, motion input is more accepted now. Kart Racers suck, until Mod Nation Racers came. Platformers sucked, but then came LBP. Mario is for kids but Ratchet is cool, cuz it has weapons!

Step 1: Buy a 3DS.
Step 2: Turn 3D off.
Congratulation. You now have Nintendo's next-gen DS without 3D.
3-5 hours isn't awful, it'll just be annoying for when you go on a long journey.fabz_95A journey to the center of the world would take a while, guess I wont be bringing it with me.
I am getting my 3DS on Sunday andI wish the battery life would would be a lot longer. Thats one reason i liked the DS so much. I could play that thing forever and it will never die!!! As soon as i can get an extended battery i will be upgrading.

Being less than half the original DS's, I'd say that could effect a lot of people, especially if they use a handhelds for more than the 3DS's life is in one day.
It's 2011 and we still have products with a battery life of only a couple of hours? It's madness, with all the advances in mobile technology you'd think they would of already come up with something better. Where are my nuclear batteries?MushroomWig
As soon as consumers are willing to spend a few grand on a mobile device like the 3DS, you'll have your 100-year nuclear batteries.
At its worst it has the same battery life as the psp3000.. Which Ive never had a problem with imo.. I was never playing and went DARN IM OUT OF BATTERY AGAIN?.... Just charge it whenever you aren't playing its not a big deal. The psp1000 was a big problem, at launch it was like an hour and a half lol.. but 3-5 hours is fine...
VendettaRed07
Lol no it did not... I have my launch psp (only system I ever got at launch) and it is probably around 3-5 depending on the game.
And there is a simple solution to this problem called buying a second battery.
The battery life isn't that bad, but it's essentially similar to the original PSP now. I'm sure if you go back you'll find some of the users defending the battery life of the 3DS complaining about the life of the PSP.
If you're home you always have the option of recharging while playing.Being less than half the original DS's, I'd say that could effect a lot of people, especially if they use a handhelds for more than the 3DS's life is in one day.

And this is wrong how?... Maybe they bought a psp and realised that 4 hours + of gaming is a long time and if that is not enough they could buy another battery?
I do not see how some in this thread (not necessarily you) are calling all the people defending the 3DS's battery life fanboys rather then responding to legitimate responses to the complaints...
I mean most people do not play 3+ hours and those who do could get an extra battery, It is not like the NGP where the battery is sealed supposedly ( and before someone calls me a fanboy I actually prefer the NGP because I prefer one screen on my handhelds)
I mean it is rather unrealistic to think a device that somewhat surpasses the Wii would have the same batterylife as something with N64 tech... Especially with 3D technology running.

... Tons of multiplat releases and some ports were better than their original in ways Tekken5:DR.
The reason the Psp had ports though was because it could run them. The GBA had quite a few SNES ports because it was viewed by some as a portable SNES like the Psp was a Ps2 (though I considered it a ps1 when I first heard of it)
I will admit it was irritating when people claimed God of War COO, Daxter, etc. belonged in the "port ccategory" because you could play similar games on consoles... Every handheld has games that try to play similar to console games (I had a GB and GBA) and now th 3DS is getting games similar to the Wii where the DS did not have the power to run GC games.

I just can't believe some people are calling things like Killzone and Uncharted for the NGP ''console ports'', and even if they were I don't see teh fail.TC i ordered 3 3DS's & I STRONGLY disagree with you. The battery life is piss poor. Like I raged when I heard that it ranged from 2.5hrs -5hrs. Like wth? Megadissapoint. Still the upcoming games will be boss. Im buying that nyko battery pack thing so whatevs :P makes my 3DS look more badass8)
i think that with short battery life like that you have to be able to switch out the battery pack. GunSmith1_basic
On the 3DS you can but unfortunately the NGP is rumored to not be able to.
And you'll see people who defended the PSP are absolutely trashing the 3DS. Funny how that works huh?The battery life isn't that bad, but it's essentially similar to the original PSP now. Yeah but the Psp had a similar battery and the NGP will have a similar (even worse imo if you cannot change batteries ) to the 3DS... Maybe a better example would be the touch screen "gimmick" mocking...
