why did they review it seperatley? did they also review all orange box games seperatley?mingo123
He's wrong I think, the highest a game can get is 10, for whatever reason they counted them seperate, but the scores don't add together...
So essentially they rated one game twice........maybe they should have reviewed COD4 single player and then multiplayer lol.
I think this is where all these sites giving early reviews come back to bite them. If they would have waited like IGN and GS, they could have included the online in the original score. Instead they just rate the single player so they can get press early.....then when no one is looking they rate the online portion. Has any game ever been rated like that?
At the end of the review he says overall MGS 4 and MGO combined is 15/20=7.5. these guys are looking for attention, read the first line of the review.abdu4
yeah eurogamer sucks, they gave Gears an 8.0 coz everyone else was rating it high so they thought "hey if we give gears an 8 and look different from others, we will get attention", euro gamer= epic fail

The reason it makes no sense is the online portion should INCREASE the score as it gives you more content. That's why Uncharted didn't get AAA, because it lacked online. How can they deduct points for having online lol.
Isn't Metal Gear Online on a sperate disk to MGS4? (ZoMg MuLtIpLe DiSkS). Along with the fact it was going to be sold seperately originally means they review it on its own merits.

nope its all on the same disk
also the thing is that it wasnt sold seperately so the review should have included both
Its like what mingo said should reviewers review the orange box as the one game or on there own ?

wait a minute, so just because they thought it was supposed to be paid for separtately they thought they should review it separately? What kind of sense does that make? You get it for free......so if it was on a second disc (which it's not) you think it's ok to judge it as a second game lol?
I'll remember that when Forza 3 comes out on 2 discs.

Well if you look on more credible sites such as IGN and gamespot which gave MGS4 10. They have Metal Gear Online information under different sections than MGS4.

If MGO was just an online aspect why has it mostly been showcased seperatly under its own title. Why not just refer to it as MGS4's multiplayer mode. I'm sorry for not keeping up to date on every detail. Also it has been referred to as a starter pack at times, which gave the indication that a more complete version online game could have been released later.
But since it is on the same disk i agree that they should all be reviewed under one game like the orange box.

No, MGS4 and MGO is on the SAME DISK! (zomg get your facts straight)
I basically agree with everything said in the review. It's fun, but it truly feels like a patch on top of the Beta, where I thought we were getting a full fledged title. I will not be buying a retail version of MGO if it is released.
For anyone wondering most matches, have turned into twitch fragfests, set in the MG world. I don't see very many people trying to sneak around whatsoever, nor much of a reason to do so, outside of Snake mode.
The damage control is outstanding:lol:
Most of you don't even know what Eurogamer is and how they review.
Yes, they reviewed the Orange Box separately.
They have two reviews for HL2 PC.
They are very harsh in giving marks, and usually don't ride the hype train.
Baranga
yup thats why they gave GTA IV 10/10

Sounds like MGS3: Subsistence-era MGO. I'm not surprised.
I'll try a few matches, perhaps (if creating two different IDs and passwords isn't too much of a hassle), but that version of Metal Gear Online wasn't very good, and this seems like the same sort of thing.

Well then this source has clearly lost sight of what the purpose of reviewing a game is. I realize with systems wars and all this is easy to forget that reviews are a tool meant to inform the public about an investment. When someone reviews a restaurant they talk about service, food quality, etc all in the same review, because it all has weight on the investment your making of time and money into going to a restaurant. They dont write a review of the food and then a week later dock points because of the service. ITs allpart of the same thing. I want to be informed about the entire investment. I am paying 60 bucks for this game that includes MGO so id like to hear how it rates as a package.

I'd rather have two detailed reviews than the abominations that happened with TOB. If you think a review like Gamespot's or other site's for that package is good... well... what can I say?
Also, MGO is a different business, as seen right here, where it has a separate forum with 46 pages.

This is why single player for me is the best. You play the game the right way because you simply cannot trust the online community to play the game right. They did this during the beta. So many people got caught by my magazines cause they run around like fools thinking this is COD4. You're supposed to SNEAK.

I dont want to read a review about how the food is good at a restaurant is good, then go, hate the service there and read a review the next week that the service sucks. Its not the point of reviews. What your looking for is in editorials. I happen to perfer ign that rates aspects and then at the end makes an overall (not an average) assessment.

ummm..no. MGO is as full as what you got with Halo 3 or COD4. Just like those games you can expect map packs to be sold in the near future. Its not seperate because you'll never be able to play MGO without MGS4 just like all other games. This is the real multiplayer portion of the game, not a beta. You couldn't be more wrong.
Downright sig worthy in its own self ownage-ness.
why did they review it seperatley? did they also review all orange box games seperatley?mingo123
exactly. i don't get it, why MGS4 is being reviewed so differently across the world.
why with just this one game, so many sites/magazines are re-inventing the 'wheel' of reviews?
I am really, really confused here.
MGO was slated early on as a separate game. Separate purchases.
I have MGS4 and see the MGO selection on my main menu. I select it and it installs MGO. But there's still a need for ID's and such? The same ID's I had to get weeks ago if i pre-ordered? This is the full version?
IF so, why is it shown and reviewed separate. Was GEars given two ratings? Was CoD4 given two ratings?
This makes no sense. Help a moron out and explain it to me like I am a 5 year old.
They probably reviewed it separately because it is not a part of the single player game. It is on the same disk, but you have to install it separately.heretrix
Their is no installation for MGO. You play it off the disc. Misinformation spreads like wildfire.

The seperate ID is just Konami being stupid. That's all their is to it. Heck I have friends who won't play the online because the ID set up is so annoying. Yes you can reuse your beta ID if you made one for it.
Why was it reviewed seperately? I have no idea.
What does scare me is Konami charging if you want more than one character...and charging if you want different items for your avatar.

I never got the ID's back on the beta, I was too late. Got an email from Konami saying I was too late. But, obviously, I did register then. So, how does someone go about getting the ID's now? All I found off of google was the konami site I already used to register for the beta. Nothing about the full release starting on the 12th.
Again, hold my hand here.

Under product description it says "To begin METAL GEAR(R) ONLINE, you will need the Starter Pack included with METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS for PLAYSTATION 3"
Despite being a seperate game you have to buy mgs4 to get it

Okay lets start from the beginning.
When you log into MGO from the MGS4 disc, the installation is just some patch. Once that's done you should be able to register right from that screen or you can google KONAMI ID and do it online. Once you set up that password just use it when you log into MGO from the MGS4 disc and you'll be logged in to play MGO. Yes this is the full MGO. There will be no other way to play it except through the MGS4 disc. Just like any other game with multiplayer. This "starter pack" business is just Konami's way of letting you know they are going to sell you map packs, avatars, and other such nonsense later on down the road. But the game itself, is played via MGS4.
Here is the link to the Konami ID FYI.
https://id.konami.net/pc/top.jsp
Just go to quick registration and your on your way.

its eurogamer what do you expect:(
so anyone who doesnt give MGS a 10 is lame?
no... when did i say that?
almos all the 8 and 8.5 reviews give really stupid reasons.
eurogamer- 8- "Laden with sentimental sermons and metaphors for the evils of war, struggling under the weight of the resolving the plots of four previous games and the personal destinies of characters as diverse as Raiden, Meryl, Naomi, Vamp and Eva, it is in all honesty a mess."
he took points away because he doesn't get the story. well, i'm sorry Mr. Oli welsh that you don't have the brain capacity to understand it.
"You're sorry to see Snake go. But should you be? Guns of the Patriots is a frustrating, fractured game that turns Metal Gear Solid's world upside down several times over, but never changes it. It just burrows deeper into what fans love and detractors hate than ever before, and it will make few converts."
fractured? this is one of the most complete games in the history of games. and you know how many people will pick up this games now that the controls don't suck ***? kojima has made the controls better and he has added another approach, you really can run and gun if you wish now.
NZgamer- 8.5- the only two major points this guy criticized were the long cutscenes and the comedy. some of the comedy was genius, like the part with
psycho mantis who returns from the first game.
. but honestly, you can skip the cutscenes, i don't see how just these two factors alone are big enough to bring this down to an 8.5
Gamedaily- 8- this is by far the worst review of it i have seen. "Although over the shoulder and first person perspective action is fun, the combat doesn't produce the same visceral experience that other shooters possess. Scoring headshots earn you instant kills, but repeatedly shooting someone in their legs or chest yields no physical effect, as bad guys stand there absorbing punishment."
the guy compares MGS4 to a conventional shooter. it's obvious that he has never played an MGS game before, and thought that he was actually supposed to run and gun.
The damage control is outstanding:lol:
