I don't know, I heard lots of shit about last gen's Silent Hill games like Downpour and stuff but I thought they were great. Very underrated games in my opinion. Evil Within I have not played it yet but I will sooner or later because I really do find it hard to believe that Mikami could have made such a stinker.

So then... Tell me what happened to realism when all the enemies with guns I kill drop ammo 10% of the time ?

What happens to realism when I'm sorrounded by junk literarally every where yet I'm confined to a a finite amount of Bricks and Bottles ?

Oh and lets not forget the most obvious one, appearently in a post apoclyptic enviroment, your friends have jedi mind tricks that prevent enemies from seeing them.

Oh, and for someone whos constantly going out and about Scavenging for Resources, why doesn't he have any Rope ?

I find it very immersion breaking that theres always a Plank nearby some gap I have to cross yet the man has no Actual survival equipment like a Knife and Rope and a Crowbar.

Sorry mate Realism is shitty Excuse ! LOL, and you actually believe it !

A real Survival game can do better than that.

Well, Resident Evil has always sucked. Including 4.

Resident Evil 4 was the best of them. Really, it's the only one that I actually completed. You do know it's not meant to be a traditional shooter, don't you?

So? Being the best resident evil game is like being the best tasting turd, or the skinniest kid at fat camp or the best sony franchise.

If RE4 was released today it would not get the 96 mc it has. To me RE4 is just as good as it was 2005. The problem is 10 years later the world has changed... today people are more casual, more into mindless no challenge games. When i play a beast game like Vanquish i could careless about the story, i care about playing that beast game on god mode!!! If Evil Within was released 10 years ago scores would be higher, AND WE WOULDNT HAVE DUMB REVIEWS COMPLAINING THE GAME IS TOO HARD! xD

I feel like I can agree with even though I have not played the game. ^

When I saw so many reviewers saying that Bayonetta (the first one) has the best combat system of any hack & slash game ever something inside me died. I realized that gaming has changed so much to the point where complexity and challenge are considered to be negatives. A game can still be challenging but its core mechanics have to be simplistic for it to take notice and not have points reduced. I think this is one of the aspects that has helped recent Naughty Dog games garner so much praise. Their games offer decent challenge but the core mechanics are always very simple.

Now going back to Bayonetta, why do I think the game doesn't has the best battle system? Because that title belongs to DMC4, but taking advantage of it takes actual effort and not some evasion move to slow things down and then mash buttons to destroy everything. This is exactly how the DmC reboot played it out and it was highly praised for it too while the real DMC fans were burning with anger.

But you can harvest from the badies you kill. Theres a buttload of them and I find it hard to believe they are always limited on Resources. Hell they all seem to be part of a large social network.

What level of difficulty were you playing on?

I finished the game on hard, I felt that they did a good balance with the resources in the world. This is not COD where you run around with pockets full of ammo. It makes you think about how to approach each situation. There was that time in the subway where you had to navigate a room with 4 clickers in it. I had 2 Molotov's and a shiv, cheap deaths aside I had to think about how I was going to use my molo's effectively.

Complexity is a Negative thing. Games should strive for Depth, not Complexity.

Anyway, believe it or not I think DmC has the best Combat System.... Its the enemies where its lacking.

Everything has been downhill since the Dead Space series, we flew too close to the sun with that. If people weren't too busy EA bashing they'd realize that.

Yeah, The game only rears its ugly head on the last 2 difficulties, Survival and Grounded. Alot of games do this.

Anyway when you have ammo and resources you don't even get a choice, you're forced to aproach each situation the same way because you have no options.

Also while you were thinking about how to deal with the current situation I was concerned about how to deal with with the scenarios that came after, based on my experience on previous play throughs, only then I had to factor in exactly how the difficulty was going to alter each scenario, will there be more enemies.... Larger enemies... Fewer resources, damage I can give and take ?

These are the things I think about while everybody is distracted by their so called atmosphere and Immersion.

If a game is gonna sacrifice great gameplay for all that Immersion nonsense then it had better be freaking perfect ! When it comes to Naughty Dog and their narrative ambitions then hell yeah I'm nitpicking. I won't even deny it. They made the trade off to appease the immersion junkies, these are the simple consequences of the decisions they made.

Atleast Beyond Two Souls wasn't afraid to go the whole 9 yards, they are sure of what they want to make, Naughty Dog always has one foot in the door but doesn't have the balls to just take a leap of faith.

Go ahead Dissect anygame you want.... They might actually make better games.

I was hung up on the Gameplay, not the difficulty, but since you brought it up... Lets get to it.

I have a problem with games that think taking away my options is hard.

What would you know about Difficulty anyway... Mr. Immersion.

Have you ever played a game that takes the effort into making the baddies more dangerous instead of nerfing the character you play with ? No I'm genuinely curious cause it seems like We only clash in threads that feature questional game design.... Where were you in the Ninja Gaiden threads ? The DmC threads ? Hmmm ?

You said it was a survival game and made an argument for realism. Whate makes for good surival, good horror or good realism or good immersion doesn't always translate to good gameplay. and thats all before you factor in things like Difficulty.

Being able to see through walls is not realistic, immersive or even fair.... But due to the games limited array of mechanics and the average level design with no vantage points then its kind of a necessity to if you don't want people bump into patrolling or even static AI everytime they turn the Corner or hop over a wall.

The game's idea of diificulty is exposing the flaws in its design and forcing you to deal with them. They might aswell just take away your ability to hop over objects, they can make it seem ummersive by saying Joel got injured or some other stupid reason, that will definately make the game much more difficult.

FYI. If you want slow paced challenging games theres quite a few that don't revolve around hamstringing your character.

Thanks mate You have truly opened eyes ! LOL.

FYI, I pointed out flaws with Bioshock Infinite on 99 Mode, I guess I suck at that too....

Appearently succeeding at beating broken but tough games is sign of my suckiness ! LOL ! No wonder gaming sucks, people scapegoat the casuals but the truth is its you masochists.

With me you get Consistancy.... Its always going to be gameplay.

It sounds to me you have a problem with games that are hard in any way. You deal with each situation as efficiently and as effectively as possible. The more you play the game, the better at it you become. Just like anything.

You dislike challenge, that's just you. If you are pushed the game is suddenly cheap and for masochists.

You should Check Out Bastion's Difficulty. It borders on mods just like the ones in Arkham City's Challenge Mode...

Or you can stick with Trial and Error design, whatever, its your time, spend it however you see fit.

At accepting that challenge is ok, whether that comes from balancing limited resources or avoiding the asylum demons attacks. there are quite a few games out there that just aren't for you.

That doesn't mean they're bad games.

Well I've said my piece, but you are still welcome to whine about artificial difficulty. We are all just so very interested in your opinions when it comes to game difficulty after all.

I never said they were difficult.... They just implemented their Difficult quite cleverly. Its definately better than anything by From Sofware and by far much more interesting than TLOU's nerfing system.

Theres more to challenge than intensity ya know. Most games just take the easy route not because their lazy or anything like that, just because people like you wouldn't recognize or appreciate the level of detail and planning that goes into its implentation.

Anyway.... You're right though.... Cheap Difficulty just isn't for me, I have no desire to "git gud" at flawed systems and I have zero appreciation for Immersion and Atmosphere if the gameplay is an after thought.

FYI, they are bad games, they might not be bad experiences but your experience and game criteria are not the same thing. Bad games with bad gameplay can still offer good experiences thats literally the whole point in All of Bethesdas games. They give people what they want. Good Experiences.

Like I said, you dislike challenge. An acceptable level of challenge for you is seeing an attack coming a mile away that you can counter with the press of a button. You are not a fan of unpredictability, if you can't manage a system effectively it becomes too much for you and you just say the game is cheap rather than learn the systems and timing needed or the resource management required to play them at a decent level.

That doesn't make them bad games, you just can't adapt.

A Challenge to me is a scenario that I can get out of based on skill... Not resources and stats and trial and error, my favourites are Puzzle Bosses.

I'm also a fan of Negative Feed Back Loops like the kinds you would find in Survival Challenges.

Would you consider the bosses in the zelda games challenging?

Those are the perfect example of puzzle like boss fights and I find them piss easy.

Well if they are puzzle bosses then sure, why not. I cant say for sure because I never played Legend Of Zelda (I've never owned a Nintendo System) but Alot of Darksiders was inspired by Zelda right ? So yeah, I find those types of Bosses Challenging. Not so challenging that I can get stuck just challenging enough to say "oh that was better than hacking away at life bars". President Evil also has a few puzzle bosses. Easy ? Sure whatever. Tedious... Nope.

the evil within is pretty great but damn if the stealth wasn't complete dog shit. They really should have taken more cues from the last of us when it came to the gameplay, you could tell they wanted to.

Also chapter 11, **** chapter 11. I've put the game on hiatus because of that stupid shit. How the hell are we getting machine gun totting haunted yet I can't use the weapons they drop. Where is the logic Mikami?

@Lulu_Lulu: I don't know what Jedi tricks you mean, when I played Ellie and other blew my cover (which did suck) enemies defiantly saw them. Anyway the last of us is one of the best games I have EVER played, I loved it.

the evil within is pretty great but damn if the stealth wasn't complete dog shit. They really should have taken more cues from the last of us when it came to the gameplay, you could tell they wanted to.

Also chapter 11, **** chapter 11. I've put the game on hiatus because of that stupid shit.

*mechanics

Certain gameplay mechanics, right.

chapter 11 so far felt like it doesn't even belong in the game. How we went from such a high point with chapters 9 and 10 to this, ugh. It's like Tango ran out of ideas I hope it get's better.
