Apparently the upcoming DriveClub is not a racing sim at all; even its developers think so. The so called next generation racing sim war between Forza 5 and DriveClub may not be a war as much as it might be a one man show- DriveClub appears to be more like Forza Horizon than Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo.

"It sits in the middle between simulation and arcade," clarifies Rustchynsky. "It's grounded in realism, so the cars have a sense of weight, a tactile feel with the road, but we want to make sure it's easy to throw them around the corners, it's all about having fun with the cars. But there is a lot of depth you want to shave milliseconds of your lap times, you can do that. But players can pick up the pad and hammer the throttle, the intricacies can be picked up later."Polygon

Of course, the game still looks fun as f*ck, so who cares. Still, should be more fodder for the fanboys, so have at it.

I always assumed this wasn't one..... sony has GT for the sim stuff, why would they make two sim games?

I dunno, having one franchise in a genre never stopped Sony from making duplicates- they had Killzone, why make Socom or Resistance or MAG? They had Jak and Daxter, why make Sly or Ratchet and Clank or LittleBigPlanet? They had God of War, why make Heavenly Sword? They had ModNation Racers, why make LittleBigPlanet Kart? And so on. Sony's history is replete with duplicate franchises.

Those games aren't really alike, aside from KZ and Resistance and the kart racers (I don't think they needed two FPS games) but making two GTs would make no sense.

If it's fun like need for speed underground, I'll take it. God I miss need for speed underground...EA should make another one.

Also, killzone dev said they are working on another project as well. I hope it's something new.

Consoles don't have ANY racing sims. Games like Forza and GT might have more detailed physics than your average arcade racer, but they don't simulate racing rules or anything like that, so in that sense they are still very arcady.

the devs saying it isn't a sim racer isn't a new comment. I could've sworn they've been saying it for months now.

Neither are Gran Turismo and Forza to be quite honest. They have a lot of simulation elements to add depth to their racing engines, but overall they are much close to being "sim-cade" games than a full on racing sim. The PC has racing sims. Gran Turismo and Forza are a mix breed if anything.

Makes sense. I don't see why Sony would offer two racing sims. Drive Club will probably be more akin to the Grid games than it is to Gran Turismo.

curious have you actually played FM with the assists off and the simulation settings on the game becomes a whole different beast, and GT5's a good sim aswell. Such a misinformed soul that probably just plugged in,played and came to a quick conclusion without doing any small bits of legwork.

With all of the different race achievements and it's scoring system, I always thought DriveClub seemed a whole lot more like a PGR style racer than a GT.

You can't turn all the assists off in Forza, there is always something holding your hand. Forza also has crap Wheel support, how can you even pretend that it is approaching sim like reality when you have a gamepad in your hand. Get your Milk Money Ready though, Forza 6, 7, and 8, plus another Horizon or spin off will be here within the next five years.

Not really bud. Try getting in a thousand horsepower car with no assists. Manual with clutch. Nothing is holding your hand. Forza is as close to a sim as it gets for consoles. I play Iracing and actually drive a racecar so believe me when I say that Forza is not far off. It's way more forgiving if you were to go off track for instance. But in terms of brake, throttle, clutch management its very close. Hell Forza helped me out a great deal for when I drive in real life. I perfected a technique called "heel-towing" and Forza allowed me to practice the concept. ( Blurping the throttle before you drop the clutch on a downshift. It syncs the rpms of the rear wheels to that of the engines preventing a lock up on high horsepower cars. ) Forzas a great game and a great sim for consoles. But yes if you want a true simulator Iracing is your ticket.

LOL. Thank you for this. Just Priceless

they want the cars to be easy to throw around corners, seems ironic that they would headhunt from the ex-Bizarre Creations staff, if anything their games had the worst controls for any arcade racer in the really stiff steering
