You are right. I am a college student living on my own. I pay my bills, including textbooks, and my girlfriend and I struggle every month to pay bills. But I still have high speed Internet and a 360 with Live and a Wii. When you love something (such as gaming or the Internet) you are willing to work for it.

Don't assume you know what goes on with everyone's lives. Its arrogant.

Hey man, I'm with ya. Lol, I feel the college financial killings too. ANd yes, I too work to pay for my internet. If you're doing it too, I share the pain and consider yourself exempt from my "arrogant" comment that probably applies to, oh, 90% of this community :D

I don't want to point out anywhere specific in the United States, but fortunate people aren't the only ones playing XBOX 360 or PS3. There are those who probably can't afford but still play games.

So your trying to tell us some one can scrounge up enough money to buy the 360, and a 60.00 game, HD TV, andsurround soundsystem. But cannot afford to pay$40 for internet, and Live for 1 month. Yeah your argument fails..

So there is more value to GOW, than the Heavanly Sword. Plus HS got a 8.0.

Why do they need the HDTV? I'm confused.....

Please, what possible use could a college student have for the internet in any field of their life? It's useless academically, socially, recreationally, it's much more likely their going to have a $400-$600 piece of niche recreational hardware, and GS scores should change how they function to represent that.

Yup. Especially us Computer Science majors...computers and the Internet are useless to us. Its the Art majors that need computers! :D

I've played Gears of War...and I'm on the last stage in "Insane". The game is a lot of fun, yet very short, and I haven't even been online.

I actually have a friend who saved up to buy a 360 and doesn't have internet at home. He works and all, but his parents don't care for it and he's going to school with me full time, so he has little cash to just throw around (textbooks kill in college man!). There's on example, now get back to the point of the thread.

Ugh...I grow tired of the "I'm broke b/c I'm in college excuse." Ya, I'll admit it's tough transistioning into a new school/area as freshmen because you might've had to quit your old job (Should start work by 16!), but around sophomore and junior..it's a lame excuse. Even with rent (a lot of students share an apartment), working 30-35 hours a week, even going to school fulltime, you won't go broke.

A) Gears is about 9-10 hours on medium.

B) It has online and offline Co-op, which is amazing.

C) It has offline and online MP.

I played the game and i beat it (the first time through on hardcore) in about 11 hours. Maybe ifyou would actually play the game and not just pull numbers out of the air that are, ironically enough, just a 1/2 hour below the Heavenly Sword finishing time based on the *gasp* GS review of Heavenly Sword. You call the GS review's quoted length of Heavenly Sword but for some reason, their length of Gears isn't correct? Perhaps if you focus on the game rather than your "precious" PS3 and the console wars you'd come up with better results in these debates.

1/2 less than the Heavenly Sword numbers....doesn't that prove my point? That's not disproving what I said ya know, only restating it. Gears got AAA,,,,for the same time span. Regardless, I seem to have beaten the game too quickly. Did I miss something? Now granted, only got about half the cogs....

You completely missed the point. You conviently enough "beat" Gears of War in a half an hour less than what GS has Heavenly Sword listed as in length. Couple to this the fact that you basically state that Gamespot has Heavenly Swords length right and than their length is wrong when it comes to Gears of War. You're comparing a personal time to a time that is put on a review site without having even played HS. For all you know, you could beat HS in 3 hours (judging from your tendency to just run through game asap). Get it now? It's not even viable as a comparison. If you're going to compare times you compare either your times or a sites times. Despite that fact that most credible sites that gave Gears of War a great review stated that most had beaten it in 10-12 hours on their first time through (pretty certain most played through on Hardcore...casual is a joke).

You can tell that guy isnt in college. I am a business major and I need a laptop for 3/5 classes this semester. One class being a hybrid (online and we meet in class once every 2 weeks) and the other 2 for financing using financial programs. I'm sure the reason why nearly everyone in college has a laptop is to go to GS and that's it. We dont have important assignments online or anything....

If Heavenly Sword's 6-7 hours of length is so bad, why isn't Gears of War's or Lost Planet's lengths considered to be such a negative? I played and beat both games and I honestly think Gears took just a little over 5 hours while Lost Planet clocked in at 7 1/2 when I beat it.

Now don't go off saying multiplayer here, cause not every gamer plays games for multiplayer. Plus, not every gamer has access to XBOX Live cause either a) they have no internet connection, or, more likely, b) they just don't want to pay the fee.

And as for a counter to ensure things are fair in regards to the multiplayer portion, not every gamer is going to play Heavenly Sword for all the unlockables and extra difficulty modes that make beat em' ups so fun to jump back into. Just consider that.

With this said, isn't it a good thing to keep a beat em' up short to prevent repetition? Not too mention, isn't this the joining of two mediums, film and gaming? If they REALLY wanted to capture the film end of things, keeping it possible to enjoy a great film while playing a great game in one sittin of 7 hours or so makes sense right?

Anyways, just wondering why it's such a big deal? I personally can't wait to get my hands on this game!

Because for the average gamer, it takes longer than 7 hours to beat Gears of War or Lost Planet.

If Heavenly Sword clocks in at 7 hours for the average gamer, then it deserves that criticism.

If Heavenly Sword had achievements it would add more to the game, but 6-7 hours is kinda short but you can do it on different difficulties

Gears of war is about 10 hours yes, i have done it on casual, hardcore and insane which prob took about 40 hours. and I have played gears of war on average 1 hour a day online since january.. if a game was 6-7 hours long and didnt have online multiplayer i wouldnt buy it

6 years ago. GS gave a game called dino crisis 2 a score of 9.2 and an editor's choice even. The gameplay was around 3hours and part of the game's achievement was to compelete the game in 2 hours (which could be done, and would achieve you the highest "S" rank)

Hows that everyone, give people' quality then want more, give them quantity they complain about content.

Medieval 2 Total War Kingdoms was also released this week, and got the same score; 8.0. It's about 75 hours worth of gameplay...single player alone.

Discuss.

I didn't time myself, but I know I didn't do it in 5 hours.

ditto. This argument is useless really because no matter how much you try, Heavenly Sword is not going to score any higher, get any longer than Gears of War. If Sky can beat Gears in 5 hours, he is probably going to beat HS in less than 3. So he is either exaggerating (lying), or he is going to get a incredibly short HS experience for $60. It doesn't really help his argument either way. Second, how can you discount anything from the package just because a portion of users cannot use that certain feature? Multiplayer is a very popular component to many modern games, and while not every user has internet service you can be damn sure those that do, monumentally outweigh those that don't due to the fact that anyone that can afford a 360 can definitely afford an online service. Also, If you are buying Gears for just the single player experience, it better be the best 10 hours of your life otherwise you aren't exactly being a smart buyer.

SkyCastleDan

one thing about the multiplayer. True not every person has xbl or the hardware to do so. But Epic knew that gears would be a primarily-multiplayer game, so if you don't give credits to gears on multiplayer, you are ignoring 3/4 of the game. Also your own logic can be used against you. Warhawk was multiplayer game that was awesome to play. But again not everyone can have an internet connection so should we ignore warhawk's multiplayer because if we do it will get a 1.0 and u and i both now the game deserves far more that a 1.0. Also, there are lots of games well over 10 hours that are not repetitive (or atleast don't feel so) and feel like a action movie: Prince of persia trilogy, NG, God of war, DMC etc.

Gears had a good length, it was getting repetitive after only a short amount of time. Run, hide behind a wall, shoot, run, hide behind a wall, shoot.

Action games don't need length, they need action! And just like I don't want to watch a movie withthree hours of nonstop explosions, a 20 hours aciton game would be really tireing.

I would also say that I think the perfect length for most games is about 12 hours but it always depends on the genre you're dealing with.

I don't want to point out anywhere specific in the United States, but fortunate people aren't the only ones playing XBOX 360 or PS3. There are those who probably can't afford but still play games.

Many areas don't have dsl/ cable access. They only have dial up and satelitte. Satelitte's latency is too high for pvp gaming. And about Gear's length, how many of you can actually beat it on insane in 6 hours single player? General RAAM in single player on insane is...insane.

Mine was closer to 12 hours, but I took my time enjoying the game, not roadie running through the whole thing.

GEOW on Hardcore took me about 12hrs.

Anyone claiming 5hrs is a liar.

I could only work, at max, 15hrs a week being an electrical engineering major.

Gears has multiplayer, and is at least two hours longer...SpruceCaboose

it also had massive production values, the gameplay was always constant and kept you punching through the action.

Not to mention the ai is quite smart....

Lost planet was also a first of it kind and looked 10 times better than HS did ;)

but if your are complaning about scores, then bleh.

Making a game longer doesn't make it better. If HS was any longer it might have gotten a lower score for being too repetitive.

"making your way through the campaign should take most players somewhere from about 10 to 12 hours long. depending on the difficulty.":?

Gears on insane difficulty will definately take longer than the regular campaign. Oh and I've been playing the online multiplayer for about a year now. Pretty much infinite repalyablilty there.

Dude, it flopped. Get over it.

what do you want people to say? gears of war and lost planet have multiplayer, regardless if people play it or not, its something that you get with your 60 dollar purchase, those games still give you more bang for your buck. I understand that you don't want this answer, but thats not the games problem, its yours really.

you have to accept that a game thats 6 hours long with no multiplayer for 60 bucks is asking for too much, I don't care how great the game is.

[QUOTE="TrailorParkBoy"]Who doesn't have internet access?SkyCastleDan

I don't want to point out anywhere specific in the United States, but fortunate people aren't the only ones playing XBOX 360 or PS3. There are those who probably can't afford but still play games.

who the fudge owns a 360/PS3 yet cant afford teh interwebs?

I actually have a friend who saved up to buy a 360 and doesn't have internet at home. He works and all, but his parents don't care for it and he's going to school with me full time, so he has little cash to just throw around (textbooks kill in college man!). There's on example, now get back to the point of the thread.

if you can spend 60 bucks on a game thats 6 hours long, then I would say you have cash to throw around, besides, thats not the developers problem, if they make a game with multiplayer in it, and you can't play online, thats not their problem.

Most Xbox 360 gamers have Xbox Live, and it is a large feature of the game. Does it make more sense to not include multiplayer in their opinion of the game or to consider it irrelevant even though it's a big part of the experience?

Not as an actual thread. I think I've hyped this game through the roof but seeing as though so many of you have a problem with length that you really don't ever seem to explain, I just thought I'd throw out my two-cents and see what the big deal is.

Yeah this is so weak. Also, there is no way he beat GeOW in 5 hours unless it was on easy and he just wanted to speed through it. Also, his whole diatribe against multiplayer is just stupid. MP adds value get over it. Sorry your game is so short. I still will buy it and enjoy it, but for a 6 hour game with no replay value (yes mp and online co-op add value) it got what it deserved. Move on.
