The Wii sold because of how Wii Sports used the Wiimote, I bet if they had bundled Red Steel and that Wii Sports never existed it would have sold at PS3 levels.

Yeah, the Wii would definitely not be as popular, it would have been more of an imitation between the X-Box 360 and the PS3. Lame, I still don't like it much.

How was I being a fanboy? I was penalising him for stating the obvious after agreeing with him that the Wiimote is indeed the main selling point of the Wii, but not the only one. I am being realistic.

No offense, but that is a clueless statement. Nintendo said themselves that wanted to bring gaming back to the casuals, and Wii sports was a driving force behind it because A) it was simple and B) Practically everyone knows how to play those games

According to Reggie, they are 'non threatening' and the Wii remote makes it immediately intutitive on how to play.

Red Steel doesnt fit this bill.

Lets play a game called: what is the biggest gimmick.

A) Something designed to attract an audience for obvious reasons, through a different interface that actually works with anything involved with what we love to do in the first place, gaming.

B) Something designed to attract an audience through elements that A) have nothing to do with gaming or B) Only enhance but ultimately cannot in any way change substantially the way we play games, only available for a horrible ammount of money.

The Wii is nowhere close of being the only one guilty of this. However the over the top negativity towards it, surely makes it seem that way.

I am forced to ponder: How many Wii's would have sold if it was packaged with a standard controller? I'm guessing not much. We know that what didn't sell the Wii was power. We also know that graphics also did not play an important part.

But what about the games?

Well, how many AAA games were available during launch? And were any of these games the start of a new franchise?

It is quite apparent that a gimmick controller is what cleared the game store shelves. If the Wii used a standard controller, we would be looking at the Gamecube all over again.

Well, besides the controller and sales, we practically are.
