I am a Wii only owner, but when i saw this i was stunned at the precision of Sony's motion controller.
Should nintendo be truly worried.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No.... Sony's Motion Sensing from what I can tell is just a rip off of Nintendo's..... but that doesn't really matter when it comes to the question of it being successful to the point that Nintendo need worry.
Sony is coming too late to the game, to try and give gamers what they already have "currently" with another system. It would be like MS announcing a Blu-Ray add-on now and thinking it was somehow gonna make PS3 owners abandon their PS3 because now you can watch Blu-Ray on XBOX.... stupid right?
Sony is at best 1.5 years away from even launching their Ball on a Stick.... Nintendo will be too far away to catch by then..... pfff.... they are too far away to catch now.
Now at least MS's motion tech works in a different way.... so people can have a different experience with it.... but it's still a ways off from release... but when it does release, it'll be something different from Nintendo at least.
If they're worried about Sony showing them up on the progress of motion technology, yes nintendo should be worried.
If they're worried about Sony taking a chunk out of their casual sales witht he motion technology, LOL.
It's unlikely that nintendo's worried about the former, and they don't need to worry about the latter.
Well they said they're going to implement it in games, too. They already sent out dev kits. Using it with Demon's Soul would be awesome! It's very cool, I fully admit that, and I'm a wii only owner.
But, there's one area that the wii is fully ahead of sony's motion controller...the wiimote plays games...like real games you can buy at the store.

No need to worry for now... at least not until Sony actually release their motion controller and a few great games..

I'll attempt to answer your question, when you ask it in english, k?
considering the Ps3 is $400, the you have to buy the Ps eye, and the motion control stick, it gets a bit expensive to have a very simular experience to the wii, granted the Ps3 mps the floor whith the wii in terms of system power
Nintendo should be worried more about Natal, if it plays as promised it could really change the way we do alot of stuff, not just gaming

Well, the day a PS3 motion controled game comes out, is the day my statement is false....until then.

Natal is the bigger threat if done correctly. Sony copied Nintendo 110%. The only difference is it's a lot more expensive. Microsoft evolved on the wii remote and created something that could potentially be better. It's already got superior tech. Add in the 360 is cheaper than a wii and you've got a potential winner.
Course i doubt either will overthrow the wii now, to little to late.
that wouldn't be that hard for sony to overcome to be honestIt's very cool, I fully admit that, and I'm a wii only owner.

In other words, no, you didn't.If 1) Sony releases a $299 PS3 bundled with the new controllers next year, 2) third-parties start developing games for it (and Wii third party exclusives go multiplat or only to PS3), and 3) Sony advertises said games and technology extensively/gets a lot of good press on it... yes. If all those things do not happen, I can't see Sony capturing the casual market.
The problem is that Sony's peripheral has to be added into the price of what many consider an already overpriced piece of hardware. So people that want motion control type setup's either already have a Wii.
PS3 and 360 are two seperate beasts to Wii. Wii has already been way more succesful than it should have been, considering it's outdated hardware, and rarely used to good effect gimicky controller.
MS and Sony would have been better off spending this development money on inhouse GAME DEVELOPMENT of some incredible new IP's that utilize the power of each machine to maximum effect.
Nintendo were clever enough to release there machine with the motion technology at the forefront, and it's only selling point. MS and Sony built there machines with a different purpose, for a different demograph of gamer.
Sony tried in vein with sixaxis tacked on tech. but it was only utilized well in a minority of software. It would have been more worth them just using the development money from sixaxis to pay off Immersion (like MS did) and just launched the DS3 with vibration from start. Although I do like the implemetation of sixaxis in games when done right....it is not done right (or at all) very often, so it seems it was a losing bet in that gamble for Sony. Plus they had to pay Immersion 80mill anyway.
To me Sony's mistake with sixaxis should be a lesson to both companies..... Unless your machine is built around the tech, then don't bother as it will not work like it is supposed to.
i think they should be more worried about NATAL. imagine

suddenly the wii looks dated
I would rather play with something in my hand, since I would at least feel like I'm doing something, rather than just acting out imaginary things... :|If the controllers are cheap enough and come bundled with a decent Wiisports/fit ripoff it could do fairly we'll. Not a Wii killer but it looks like it could be more acurate which I would love since the wimote can sometimes get frustratingly inacurate. I'm just not into Natal anymore since I saw "Bam..there it is" and heard that Milo was a fruad. I mean if they get it to work well I'll buy it. If it stays gimped then F that.

Out of curiousity, and no I haven't seen it at work, how does it know when you've let go of the ball?

Natal can track finger movements, so it will know when you open your fingers to release the ball.Natal is basically Eyetoy 3.0, so Sony really has the most versatile motion controls. You can either use a Wiimote style controller with buttons and precision aiming, or control things directly using body gestures. Sure, Natal is way more accurate since it has 2 cameras, and thus can see in 3D, but there's no controller to use with it so it's limited in ways that the PSE and PMC combo isn't.
As for Wii, there's currently no camera peripheral at all, so the only option is to use the Wiimote for controls. I think that overall, Sony's motion control setup will give gamers and developers alike the most flexible set of options.
Why would Nintendo be worried?
They've sold 50 million consoles already and no amount of tech developments will allow PS3 or 360 to catch up to those numbers... at best, Sony and MS can hope to sell to a handful of those people who have a Wii only.
It will certainly make the next set of consoles interesting however..... Nintendo will have to pull something else different from their hat if they want to lead the next gen.
It's going to be a while before Sony's PS3 wand even becomes mainstream considering it comes out next yeae, while the Wii has been out for nearly 3 years and had motion sensor from the start.

Did you watch those youtube videos with diffrent people trying out natal, damn impressive to me, and why can't you use, say your controller, or even a custom controller made for the game, like a gun conroller made for a shooter to be player using natal, i think its rather funny, if you need that type of control, it is there, a feaking wireless controller, you can use both at the same time, and create some amazing games Natal is the one to watch, hopefully its executed correctlywasnt the wii suppose to be worried about six axsis? wasnt they suppose to be worried about metal gear 4? fanboys and there dedicated companies been throwing all kinds of ish at the wii to slow down its sales, but it havent worked yet. the appeal is still strong with the wii. Rahnyc4no. but the PS wand is abit more intimitating.
Why should Nintendo be worried? Sony's motion controls are a me too type of deal (even if they are more precise)on an all ready expensive console. All conventional wisdom says that it won't be successful enough to cause concern for Nintendo.
No real reason to worry. Sony is still in the prototype stages. Their lying when they say they have the P-mote in the developers hands already. If devs have it in their hands than they just got it June 2nd after Sony's press conference.
Sony can't even hope to catch up since their are about 50 million Wii owners who already have motion control, as opposed to only about 20 million PS3 owners. Wii owners can upgrade their motion control easily because the motion plus will come bundled with a couple of games such as Wii Sports Resort, Redsteel 2, and Tiger Woods Golf to name a few. The P-mote you'll have to go out and by it by itself, and pray by than it will come bundle the the PS Eye.
If half the Wii owners just buy a new game with this bundle you're looking at 25 millions people with Wii motion plus where as if half the PS3 owners go out and buy the new P-mote you're only looking at 10 million. From a game company's stand point that really isn't incentive enough to start making a bunch of games around that controller.
The P-mote is a blatant rip-off of the Wii-mote. It is to little and way to late. By time it gets released Natal would have already been out in the market for a while taking all the rest of the casual market. Only die-hard Sony fan boys would go out to buy the P-mote.
hell no. sony would need a huge marketing campaign to pull it off, and we all know how poorly they have marketed thier products lately.
I kinda feel sorry for cows on the controller front.
Imagine buying a PS3 at launch + 3 sixaxis controllers
- Dual shock 3 releases
x4 Dualshock 3
-PS Eye releases
One eye toy
- PS wand releases
x4 PS wand
Total
_______
A gazillion dollars
"bu bu bu... teh motion+ should have been there from the beginning!! no buy!!"
no in the slightest. this is only a tech demo of something that looks the almost the same as motionplus and won't be out for a year or 2. even then it's unlikely to have better support than the eye toy did.Link
