I've had my 60GB PS3 since 2007 and it still works flawlessly to this day. I've never had to take it in once. Am I just lucky, or do fat PS3's tend to be pretty reliable? I don't remember reading any articles about the fat PS3 having major overheating issues like the 360. Pretty amazing considering this console is drawing 200 watts at full load.

Also, just for fun what do you consider to be the most reliable console of all time? IMHO, it's either the SNES, or N64.

Pretty sure YLOD was fairly prevalent in early PS3 models. Not to the extent that RROD was in the early days of the 360, though.

my 60GB died after 4 years and I don't know a single person in real life with a phat model that is still functional. People are now selling the thing for like $3,000 new on Amazon and Ebay. XD

not at all, the most reliable consoles are those with few moving parts, usually cartridge based consoles like the master system, genesis, SNES and the N64

Yup still have my fat 60g BC PS3 and it's flawless, it's made with amazing materials, that's why it was so expensive.

Reliable consoles: SNES Genesis Nintendo 64 Xbox Gamecube Wii Actually, now that I come to think about it, Sony is the only manufacturer without a spot on that list...

Haven't read much into the YLOD. I know there will always be lemons, but I wonder if the majority of the original Fat PS3's are still in working condition.

The Xbox was built like a tank. It was impossible to destroy. I thought the Wii's failure rate was less than 1%, I thought?

It was built like a tank because it weighed the same as a tank.

I want to say no. I got that stupid ylod in about a year & half/ 2 years time. On the other hand, two of my friends both have their fat models, and they still work like a charm. I have a real good feeling about my new ultra slim though.

My original xbox was the system that gave me absolutely zero problems while I had it. My snes and n64 are hanging in there as well with only a few problems every now and then.

The original Xbox was a tank, it was literally bullet proof. I had dropped that thing many times from 6-7 feet and no problem at all. The worse thing that ever happened was the front face plate(?) came off, but you just pop that sucker back on and it's good as new. I don't know how they screwed up so badly with the RROD though they are now passed that.

It also had a terribly weak disc drive the was prone to breaking down in the first couple of years' models.

I still have a launch unit that works just fine. Because of LAN I moved it a lot and it took some serious punishment yet it has given me no problems.

I found the NES to be a real pain in the ass. The SNES and N64 weren't much better. Cartridges in general were a pain in the ass the the Genesis did a pretty good job.

My experience is the opposite. Two of my friends fat PS3s broke after roughly 2 years... They each had to pay 100 Euro to get it fixed. My own slim PS3 still works perfectly to this date.
