I have a fat PS3 I bought at about the time the Slim became available. It seems okay. No problems so far aside from the slow WiFi G. Speaking of PS2..... Mine still works too:

HEY! That photo on your screen looks familiar.

What operating system is that?

I'm positive that's Windows 7

Yup and mine still works perfectly since day 1 release, a lot of my friends ones have stopped working though, so I guess I'm just lucky, lets hope it stays that way:(

I have a 80gb since 09 and I had to get my disk drive changed. But I played DVDs and blurays on it so I guess it's my fault.:?

my 60GB died after 4 years and I don't know a single person in real life with a phat model that is still functional. People are now selling the thing for like $3,000 new on Amazon and Ebay. XD

Son of a gun. Should have put the "new" before the $3000 cause For a split second I was incredibly happy, and then incredibly disappointed. :(

I spilled about half a bottle of coke on my original Xbox and it still worked perfectly.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"]Reliable consoles: SNES Genesis Nintendo 64 Xbox Gamecube Wii Actually, now that I come to think about it, Sony is the only manufacturer without a spot on that list...clyde46
The Xbox wasnt that reliable and either is the Wii.

I don't know about the original xbox, but the Wii sure isn't the most reliable. Out of my 3 consoles (Wii, PS3, 360), the ps3 was the last console to break down, and I got my Wii almost a year after it's initial launch (although the Wii's problem was very odd. It played every game I tried and wanted to play on it, but SSBB, and that was basically the only reason why I initially got a Wii). That happened in 09, and my ps3 finally died in 2011. The 360 died once in 06 (I was playing Tomb Raider Anniversary), and another time in 07 (I was playing NBA Street: Homecourt). Got another one in late 07 (same time I got my Wii), and got the E74 problem twice in 09.

No, about 3-4 years of getting a PS3 Fat ours started to die.

I got it repaired and it only lasted through the Summer.

PS3 Fat is not that reliable.

I'm positive that's Windows 7charizard1605

It is Windows 7. I have Firefox with GS plus Task Manager and ContaCam free surveillance software. As I recall, I was trying to catch which animal kept taking a poop on my lawn. He He.

Edit:

On second thought.... That's not Task manager at the bottom right. It's just Explorer with a list of photos taken by ContaCam (opened by VLC).

I've heard some fat PS3's (particularly those with full PS2 BC) are ticking time bombs so I doubt it.

The newer models are supposed to be very reliable though.

My friends Christmas 2006 60GB PS3 has had some issues. One time he had to pull the HDD out and put it back in and he had to send it in to Sony once. My Christmas 2006 Wii is still going strong though.

Bought a PS3 @ launch @ Sony Metreon. I even shook Jack Tretton's hand. Barely used it until last year. My 60gb ended up dying in October. Exact date is in my sig. Depressed I can't play Gundam Extreme VS anymore, especially with the new dlc characters they released recently.

Two of my friends who bought it at launch with me theirs died back in 08. They used it since day one unlike me. Don't know how reliable the later 60gb models are, but the launch models sucked donkey.

Don't think that they are any less reliable than other hardware. But like any hardware there is a failure rate,

But I still have my old 60GB(changed the HDD) with memory card slots :)

My 60GB still works fine, though I almost never play it since I get all multiplats on the Xbox 360, most the time I fire it up it's to play PS2 games. I'd have to say my NES is the most reliable console ever, like 25 years old and still works fine.

Not true, PS1 was infamous for failures. PS2 was plagued with DRE, but was better than PS1. PS3 (excluding lunch models) is the most reliable Sony console. PS1 was worse than 360 and N64, with its famous upside down trick.

I've been through my share of consoles over the years. I laugh at anyone calling the original Xbox a reliable system, those things have all kinds of problems. The disk tray problem, the power cord problem, the hard drive problem. On the other hand a lot of it seems to come down to the luck of the draw, my Ps2 fat still works and it really shouldn't because I used the living hell out of it. and I have a gamecube that won't spin disks, so who knows. I pick up a lot of this stuff second hand so I don't really know what all it's been though. The console I'd say is pretty much a sure bet to work no matter what dusty thrift store shelf I pull it off of though. Would be the Sega Genesis. So that gets my pick as most reliable ever.

I got YLOD on my fat PS3 about a year after i bought it, got it repaired and same problem again 2 months later. that time i got another one as replacement, haven't had any issue with it until 2 months ago when it got YLOD again...As it's out of waranty this time, I haven't replaced it. Still haven't decided if i'm gonna buy a new one or just wait for PS4.

That honor would probably go to some early Nintendo system. I doubt we'll see many working 360s or PS3s in 20 years. You can find NES that work as good as ever.

Nintendo consoles I've picked up have had plenty of problems in the past. They are easy to fix typically, but let us not live in the illusion that nintendo makes some kind of unbreakable console.

Yeah, results will vary. I haven't actually got my own hands on a SNES for a long time, so I can't really comment on my personal experience with it. I've heard they can have some trouble with the cartridge slot though. Overall, any console you take care of is probably going to be reliable, at least that's what I've found. My only real problems have come from second hand stuff.

I have an old xbox I picked up at a value village that has 3 problems, I looked into it and all 3 are fairly common. One is the disk tray sticks shut, not a huge deal, just have to push it to the side a little bit. Another is the power button, press the button and nothing happens, had to turn that console on with the eject button. Also fairly common. The last one was an Error of some sort (Can't remember the exact code, but I believe it had to do with the hard drive.) That said I have another original xbox, and it has been fine.

It might have been, had Sony not skimped on the heatsink and fan assembly like Microsoft did. I personally would have tolerated a larger console with an even bigger heatsink and louder fan that could dissipate heat more efficiently and thus not have BGA solder failures that cause most of those YLODs. Then again, I am primarily a PC gamer accustomed to mounting gigantic tower heatsinks on CPUs so that they stay cool even when overclocked. Still, for my foray into the PS3, I went with a working CECHA because I wanted the full PS2 compatibility in one console. One PlayStation to rule them all, you could say. I'll see to it that it stays working, even if I have to dismantle the whole thing to replace the thermal paste and pads.
