Who agrees? It's like watching a lame Japanimation film.myster_samz
i agree with u ...partially
i think its gone downhill after 10
I totally agree. VI through IX were the greatest the series had to offer. I haven't enjoyed any FF game since IX.SmashBrosLegend
agree with u completely, IX is fantastic
I COMPLETELY dissagree, I think that the series is going uphill, number 12 has the most gameplay out of any of the games in the series, and is the most in dept game I have ever played! How could you not like 12? Best in the series IMO (yes better than 7) gameplay wise.catlin_czirr
12 had a lame storyline. And I did not enjoy some of the new gameplay mechanics.

So... you actually though XI was better than the previous ones?

XI isn't even a true FF game, I don't even count it, but X and XII are my favorites so far. Of course story wise you gotta givve it to VII, but I loved the characters in XII, and I loved the vagrant story style it has, im playing XII right now and am LOVING it! You just have to give it time, the game grows on you.I totally agree. VI through IX were the greatest the series had to offer. I haven't enjoyed any FF game since IX.SmashBrosLegendVI and IX were one of my favorite rpgs and they were the best final fantasy. I played X but I didn't really liked the combat system much as VI and IX, and the voice were :x.
Final Fantasy IX was a godsend to the people who had played older Final Fantasy games during NES/SNES era. It's a living-breathing museum. Trough the whole game you could see cameos and references to older Final Fantasies. The only thing i did not like was the midged look characters had. Beside that, game was awesome. With that said, the series went downhill when Final Fantasy X hit the shelves. Final Fantasy XII somewhat restored my faith in the series.
IMOofcourse.
Who agrees? It's like watching a lame Japanimation film.myster_samzI would have voted in the poll, but you didn't give anybody the opinion. You gave two different wordings of the same opinion. You would have just been better off to ask if it was going downhill and left us with two ways to vote, yes or yes. Because thats pretty much what you did here. Anybody that wants to vote "no it hasn't gone downhill", doesn't have that opinion, so your poll completely and utterly fails in every possible way you could imagine.

Stories should be driven through gameplay rather than movies

12 was awesome :)
I lost interest in the FF series after FFVII. When I was playing FFX I was nearly put to sleep by the repeated cutscenes. Afterplaying a rousing game of drownball, I pretty much stopped playing it and watched my brother play through bits and parts of it. The last boss was... lame, but then again so was the whole storyline.
no it hasn't. it just that some ppl play a FF game and think that every FF game, here after, must be the same. just cuz each one is different doesn't mean its going down hill.bustos86
I'm not saying they should've kept the series the same. I'm just saying that, they haven't been improving the series.Adding whiny voices (In X at least.), and a crappy combat system. Doesn't do justice to the FF name.
How could you say it's all cutscenes now? I understand you saying that about X, but I mean XII has the biggest world, the most sidequest out of any game in the series! I think it is like %10 cutscenes and &90 gameplaycatlin_czirr
Have you even played any other FF games before 10? 12 doesn't have the largest world or the most sidequests. There are also more cutscenes than you admit.

%10 is still a LOT.
FFVI is my favorite, probably the first traditional RPG I ever played, followed shortly after by Chrono Trigger.
FFVII was awesome.
I hated FFVIII, but it had a good ending.
FFIX seemed great, but I never got around to playing through it completely.
After that... I haven't really had the urge to play any more of them.
I completely agree. I wasnt a huge fan of the art style of IX but I liked the game, the characters and gameplay. I couldnt stand X, the characters, story, gameplay and especially art style. FF use to be my most favorite series, now its not and I dont even look forward to future installments.
Its like the only color pallet they know of is that of pastels and the androgynous style of characters like Vaan or Tidus are just unattractive. XII strayed even further with the a completely disconnected storyline, though it didnt really matter since Vaan was terribly annoying so in a way it was a good thing it didnt focus on him.
Its a pitty his brother died and not him
The gameplay was refreshing at first but got stale very fast, most features were quite useless, you just moved around and watched, summons were useless and boring and Quickens were too powerful and overly cinematic. And the licence system was quite annoying as well.
AAA Thread fails, I loved 10 and 12.Eddie-Vedder
Just because it's AAA, doesn't mean it's not going downhill. X and XII were alright, but just not as magical as the older games.
SMT III: Nocturne destroys FFXII in gameplay, length, style, setting and depth. I enjoyed VII alot but the best were the older ones on the SNES and tactics of course.
All the hardcore JRPG players no atlus is where its at. Final Fantasy is for casuals so I dont get to worked about a lackluster titles here and there. Maybe XIII will be great but its very 50/50

yeah i must say that no FF game (10 - 12) have used voice acting in the best way possible. no game has truly made voice acting enhance the game with exception to MGS. Metal gear solid has the best voice acting and sound direction in any game and it makes the game feel more immersive. FF is still content with kiddy sounding characters with the exception of a few characters. and since you have to listen to the voices alot in the game, it sorta bring it down abit.
My stance on cutscenes is that they should only happen after you've done something signifigant. A reward for beating a boss, or solving some puzzle. I didn't need cutscenes just because I walked 10 feet from where the last cutscene ended. The biggest weakeness of voice acting is that I can't skip through the whiney emo talk and get back to playing.
If the story is weak, give me the option to ignore it, don't force me to sit through knee-deep character conversations that I don't care about.
It went downhill after the mergeBlackbond
Finally, someone speaks the truth.
straight AAA and they are going down hill i think not
I could never get into any Final Fantasy game, not one. I can get into any other JRPG, but not Final Fatansy, I've just never really liked it. I even went back and tried to play all the old ones on the GBA/DS and still, nothing.
the ironic part is, I'm probably going to love Lost Odyssey Blue Dragon, and ASH.

i don't mind it so much if they are in-game cutscenes but it every cutscene is 10 mintues later and its a CGI then we'll have problems. that god it's not like that in FF12.
And i'm not just talking about the sequals. I'm talking about half-ass games like FF:CC and chocobo tales.

Easy, its an mmo battlesystem in a first person game, its boring, I couldn't play it for more than an half hour at a time without boredom.
Yes FF has gone downhill, obviously still good enough to get AAA but as far as teh series is concerned, downhill.
