[QUOTE="Zaibach"]

I'll pick it up later down the line, right now Uncharted 3 is my priority

So long as Real madrid and Chelsea are nerfed, its like the entire chelsea team is on steroid or something

VendettaRed07

I hear there is an achievement called "Score a Goal with Fernando Torres"

 ......:( ......

Best Trophy I have heard of yet: Make a clean tackle with Pepe. :P And on a more serious note. I believe in Torres. Although I am primarily a Barcelona fan and hence a La Liga advocate, Chelsea (and Arsenal for that matter) are the two teams that I actually support enthusiastically in the EPL ( I know, quite the odd couple considering the history) Watching Torres play against Man Utd left me bewildered, he was playing well for a long time, but literally became invisible after his miss. I really hope he buck's up, and starts scoring goals again.

[QUOTE="percech"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Again, I question any reviewer who has only written a handful of reviews or less, is clearly a fan of the genre he is reviewing, and then proceeds to give a game the highest or tied for highest review score of the year.

I would apply that standard across all reviewing sites.

KC_Hokie

The game is reaching its peak to perfection. Of course it's gonna have minor gameplay changes. Just like SMG, or Halo, etc. Are you saying if it scored an 8.5 you wouldn't have a problem? Are you really THIS picky about reviewers?

An annual soccer game with minor tweaks written by a rookie writer and clear fan of the genre receiving a score equaling the highest given for the year....I would question the credibility of the reviewer.

If the same scenario happened with a more popular game and genre a lot more people would care.

FIFA is pretty popular.

9.5? LOL...FIFA is so overrated it's insane, I love the atmosphere etc but the gameplay is flawed, through balls etc are such a chore to get even slightly right a lot of the time compared with PES it's a joke. I love realism don't get me wrong but FIFA is overall a boring chore most of the time to play compared with PES but PES at times is slightly arcadey in some ways which equally doesn't sit with me most of the time. The one thing PES has for it is the "fun" factor, games have to be fun and most of the time FIFA isn't. It's just for crazed, overly-competitive fools who all seem to think they're "beast" at it when upon looking them up on the leader boards...they're average. Then again PES's bugs, average AI and moronic ref AI breaks the game most of the time for me as well (red card for clearly getting the ball in your own half?).

This reminds me of when IGN gave PES 2008 a 9.2 and a) that game was NOT that good, nowhere near it and b) the game was actually sponsered by IGN! It was on the advertising boards, even at half/full time the stats menu had a banner across the top saying "IGN.COM". http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/828/828666p1.html

Also, I actually perfered the PES 2012 demo this year...though the lack of stadiums and overall depth cripples that game for me and don't get me started on the crap-fest that is PES online...

[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]He does all the soccer game news for IGN. I just did a Google search.

And like I said above this guy has only ever written a handful of reviews prior to this one. He mainly does podcasts and movie reviews.

KC_Hokie

I would prefer every review site used fans of a specific genre to review a game. That way jrpgs could actually get some love. On the contrary most western reviewers seem to be shooter fans.

So you like it that a soccer fan wrote the review for the soccer game...OK, but that's exactly my point on the outcome of the review. The guy has little review history, is obviously a soccer fan based on his posting history, and then gives a soccer game the highest score since Portal 2 and tied for the second highest all year for a console game.

So I question the credibility of the reviewer and score.

i will question the fact you sometimes are devoid of logic and if you know football well you would know or a fact fifa is definately one of the few games (unlike Madden) thats improved year on year,AI fixes this year, the whole ultimate team mode spawned from fifa way back aswell on top of that its one of the few online games that i've played this gen that actually genuinely works well on a P2P networking online system.

It got the score on its own merits that it excells at what it does, whats the point of you trying to compare it to the likes of Portal? its like comparing apples to oranges both tasty but both are insanely diffrent.

I don't see much change and how it got a higher score than Gears 3 is beyond me its the same game I have been playing for the last 4 years.

[QUOTE="percech"][QUOTE="mrmusicman247"] That doesn't matter. You're analogy didn't match KC's. Ergo, your post didn't make sense. KC_Hokie
What are you trying to argue here? My analogy? Of course it made sense. He's arguing against a knowledgeable reviewer. Are you bored or just mad about the score?

He's a 'knowledgeable' reviewer based on what? Certainly not based on his history of writing game reviews. There are so few of those.

Mmmm, maybe he just really liked the game?

It seems some Americans are pretty upset over this. You see this is what happens when EA doesn't have a stranglehold over your sport of choice.

Konami's PES has been giving Fifa a run for it's money and sometimes bettering it over the past 10-15 years, and EA has had to step up to the plate and put out a top-quality product.

Wheras with Madden, EA know they can knock out a half-assed product each year and NFL fans have no other option.

I reckon this game will get a high score elsewhere other than IGN worldwide. As high as 9.5? That's yet to be seen...

Not true! In Australia we call it Soccer because we play so many different football variants here we need to specify.

I always thought football, or footie, referred to aussie rules over there.

Most commonly refers to AFL (Australian Rules), then NRL (Rugby League).

NRL rules. State of Origin is the toughest game of any sport on the planet. I'd love it if someone made a really decent game of it with both NRL and SL.

Yeah I really like it. I think there is no game because it is not very popular outside of Australia. Probably the same reason why there is not a high profile Aussie rules game.

It has it's audience in the UK of course as it's our game originally. What we need to do is get the wider world to see it.

England is rank 4th in the world with FIFA and English clubs dominate the world of football so....

We all know England always chokes in the World Cup and as for English clubs dominating the world of football... I'm sure Barcelona might have something to say about that.

fifa 12 is solid. i've just been playing career mode with my virtual pro w/ philly union. playing on easy so i can do my accomlishments before cranking up the difficulty and doing online club/ drop- in. but even on the easy difficulty the computer will take advantage and string some nice plays. had a friendly against tottenham and adebayor was killing me in the box with headers. ended up winning but i had to play possesion for the last 10 minutes in fear of letting up goals.

I'm sure they might do, but that doesn't change the fact that the EPL is the biggest league (in terms of revenue) and interest in the world.

Great score, it also got a 9 from Eurogamer, I was expecting a 10 this time, but excellent score nonetheless.
.
It is funny to think that some time ago people would call you crazy if you said that FIFA would one day be better than PES, and today its so far ahead that its not even funny.

Btw, FIFA is a franchise that is not talked much about here but it's probably one of the most sucessfull franchises this generation. It pushed football (not soccer) game to a all new level of realism, got pretty much total critical acclaim and has huge salles.

You should respect other people's culture. If a culture calls the sport soccer, then that what its called in their culture. Same goes if a particular culture or society call the sport football. There are hundreds of names for soccer/football and are you going to argue for each one when its brought up?

Btw Japan also refer to the sport as soccerサッカー日本代表, orSoccer Nippon Daihyō...

[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"][QUOTE="ShadowDeathX"]Here is a history lesson. In Great Britain, the great sport of Football (the one you actually play with your foot) was formed by major influences from sports, other cultures around the world played. In the 1860's, while the sport was starting up in Great Britain, many schools and clubs carried different rules for the sport of football. It was common to give nicknames to these different clubs. Association Football was nicknamed "Soccer" by many of the English. At the same time, another football school created with a different set of rules (in which allowed the use of hands) was starting up. This was later on nicknamed "Rugby" after the name of the school. These nicknames were used to differ the two major schools of Football. Fast forward a few decades and the sport of Football, became very popular in colleges throughout the United States. The form that was the most popular form however, was Rugby. Now since Rugby was the uber popular version of football played in the United States, the term of Football was coined to the sport. In the meantime in the United Kingdom, the different versions of Football started to both become very popular. Rugby became its own name for its sport, while Football was given to the sport that you use your foot. (Fast Forward another few decades) In the United States, the sport of Football (Rugby) became super popular in a societal standpoint. The sport was heavily influenced by the American culture and as such was Americanized.mattuk69

Another history lesson...football and rugby aren't the same thing.

Just let John cleese explain it.

Wow what an anoying jerk.

why, i dont live in europe, its called soccer here, when someone says football i think of the NFL

I'm American and i call it football out of respect and i'm a die hard fan of a particular NFL team. Europeans/ world know what american football is. So we should be respectful when talking about their football.

why, i would confuse everybody as to what im even talking about, i cant just start switching words around because everyone else still thinks of american football when someone says football.

I don't like the tactical defending (it can be switched off) but the precision dribbling makes a WORLD of difference!
