[QUOTE="magiciandude"]Don't you mean that he forgot to subtract 7 from 13? FF8 was trash. Lol FF8 was a fine game.You forgot to subtract the 5 from the 13 at the end of Final Fantasy.

It seems so.Did people actually take the TC seriously?

It's the best JRPG this gen, that's for certain. rolo107And I dunno LO, is pretty darn fun
You forgot to subtract the 5 from the 13 at the end of Final Fantasy.
Don't you mean that he forgot to subtract 7 from 13? FF8 was trash. Lol FF8 was a fine game. FF8 story made no sense at all. The stat system was fine but the idea of making a modern world with magic with nothing explain ruined the game.[QUOTE="dreman999"][QUOTE="magiciandude"]Don't you mean that he forgot to subtract 7 from 13? FF8 was trash. Lol FF8 was a fine game. Alright, then subtract 4 from 13. Or easier. Add 1 to 8. Your choice :PYou forgot to subtract the 5 from the 13 at the end of Final Fantasy.

[QUOTE="Rza_rectah"]I would call this game a action strategy game since it striped almost all of it s rpg elements.

It's what I've been saying for some time. JRPGs are more like Customizable Adventure Games.
They have the stats and levelling feature (the character customizing) in common with WRPGs, but in terms of gameplay styIe, share more in common with adventure games playing as pre-scripted characters, where its the WRPGs that have the role playing driven gameplay of being your own character in the universe.
In way, you could say that JRPGs are a bridge between role playing games and action adventure games.

I know I'm going to love FFXIII :). Just from looking at it, it looks to have one of the best battle systems of all time. As for every other aspect, I'll wait and see. Hopefully I can get it soon.

In a way, WRPGs also bridge between action and role playing games due to the combat. Just thought I'd add that in there.Lol, 9 I actually didn't like as much. 8 I think I have a bias for as my first FF. But to each his own!Animal-Mother

FFVIII is probably my favorite game of all time.Seems like A-M was joking...If so, I think it's not a very good one :(. It would be refreshing to actually see someone state FFXIII is their favorite RPG. In the meantime, I have to wait a bit longer to play it! Uh oh. Could at lease explain why, because every time someone state that they like ff8 the best they never say why.>In way, you could say that JRPGs are a bridge between role playing games and action adventure games.So are games like Mass Effect 1/2, Jade Empire, and Demon's Souls. That's why its referred to as "Action RPG". Anyways, I wish we could stray away from categorizing them as "Western" and "Japanese". It's unnecessary IMO.AdobeArtist
I think RPGs should be categorized as: Action, Strategy, Turn-based, or a mix of these. Because in the end all WRPGs and JRPGs fall under these descriptions :|.
---
Is God of War and Dante's Inferno considered *Western* Hack N Slash, while Bayonetta and Devil May Cry are *Japanese* Hack N Slash? Nope, and they shouldn't. There are differences between these games such as: grading you between levels based on your combo variety; The way you execute moves are different as well; And item management is different as well.
FFVIII is probably my favorite game of all time. How in good god can it be with such a messed up story?Well, that's just like your opinion man ;).[QUOTE="TREAL_Since"]Seems like A-M was joking...If so, I think it's not a very good one :(. I'd say more like cinematic action-adventure, given the linearity of this game compared to actual strategic/tactical RPG's. I'm not sure why it is even cIassed as a "RPG" anymore... the FF series and a lot of JRPG's in general have never really captured the essence of role-playing, just fighting battles and level grinding.
What I find most odd about the TC's claim is that the game has been out a few weeks and already he is claiming it to be the best at something which it really even isn't. It's like saying Fifa 10 is the best first-person shooter.
~~~
^^^ @mythrol: I think the Destructoid review covers that exact same point, which is what is having me question the TC's logic somewhat. It would suggest that every other game in existence is the most horribly paced games ever made.DarkLink77
Some of FF8's story is really odd plus that stupid orphange scene was incredibly lame. But the game was really fun I thought. One of the best last dungeons I have had the pleasure of going through.
[QUOTE="Animal-Mother"][QUOTE="SilverChimera"]Uh oh. Could at lease explain why, because every time someone state that they like ff8 the best they never say why. Well as I said in an earlier post I do have a bias as it is my first FF. I thought the story was told well enough and enjoyed the junctioning system enough to warrant it a good game. But then again I do have a bias.*calls gang* We have another one that needs to go through the "conversion process"
