"The linearity in Final Fantasy XIII ruined the game."
This is the most common complaint when discussing the "flaws" of Final Fantasy XIII. And I find this complaint laughable. People, going out of your way for five minutes to collect an item on the overworld does not equate to freedom.
The haters (and yes, that's what you people really are) say there's "nothing to do but go forward and fight monsters". Guess what? That's all there was to do in VII, as well.
"But mmm, there were minigames and TOWNZ in VII!"
You call that variety? I call it padding. You want to waste your time talking to nobodies instead of kicking more monster *** all over the place? You don't believe that anymore than I do. Which brings me to my next point:
"All you do in XIII is mash X to win!"
That's what you do in EVERY FINAL FANTASY TO DATE.
Seriously, the only Final Fantasy where you didn't have to resort to Attack spam (or rather, couldn't) was Final Fantasy X. The Attack command is the bread and butter of the series, without it, there is no hope for victory. You just notice the constant mash more in XIII because the speed of the game has been cranked up to 11.
"But the Auto-Battle makes it too easy! I don't have to do anything to win."
Seriously? Leave this thread now. You have other things to worry about if this is an issue for you.
"B-But, the story was crap in XIII! VII's was much better!"
You mean the story with more holes in the plot than in a block of swiss cheese? There is no motivation for the villain of VII to do what he does. He does it for the sake of being a villain. The rest of the cast in VII was also a disjointed mess of stock anime characters that had NO reason to remain in the plot other than give you more characters to choose from. I could go into detail on the rest of the story, but that would take days.
"You just didn't understand the deep story of VII."
Of course not. There was no "depth" to speak of. What you think is depth is your fanboy mind filling in the gaps so that you can convince yourself it was a good story.
"It doesn't matter, still not as good as *insert FF game here*."
Get out. This is about VII and XIII.
But while we're on the subject, VIII, IX, I, IV, V, VI, X AND XII > VII.
"u mad bro?"
I could ask you the same, bro. I'm just pointing out the same flaws you whine about in one game in the one you so adore. Or are those nostalgia goggles on so tight they're cutting off airflow to your brain?
Discuss.
