No, I can still complain because its Final Fantasy XIII.

actually Radiant Historia is pretty great.... and nonlinearThe Last Story is supposed to be a masterpiece, from what I've heard. Like, an actually innovative and unique JRPG. The battle system looks cool, at least.enterawesomeThe story takes a backseat to gameplay from what I could tell couple hours I played and impressions from importers say the story isn't that great, but gameplay is definitely the best part.

"Just goes to show you that the line separating the western and eastern audiences is getting thicker. And it's troubling me.
I understand if Square Enix wants to hold their bigger announcements for TGS, since Japan has their primary target audience, but I feel that all JRPG developers are avoiding the west more and more.
If this keeps up, I'm afraid we'll be seeing less and less JRPGs getting launched here. Hell, FFXIII-2 only made an appearence in the booth. No KH, no FFvXIII, no Type-0, no Dragon Quest…. Do I need to paint a picture here?
Plus, no JRPG in sight in ANY of the conferences. Because Sesame Street was exactly what we were looking for, right?"
FF13 was the greatest in the franchise by far. FFX a close second.

Played both (own 4 and used to own 6 ) and I thought Final Fantasy XIII was better than both. Final Fantasy XIII felt like a wild roller coaster ride to me. Easily one of my favorites because it dared to be so different and the game is easily worth the title of Final Fantasy.[QUOTE="hayato_"]

I'm not gonna lie. Persona 4 is the probably the best game I've ever played.
I straight love that game to death. But other than that one and Devil Survivor I'd agree the genre is definitely going downhill.

I've played all of them. I put like 80 hours into FF13. Not even half in the next longest played.I love when texasglodrush comes in and just says the same thing a million times "pfft most of bioware game arent clich in character and story but them jrpg just do the same thing over and over" Dude ME and DA2 has some cliche in them too. Get over it. WE get you dont like the story and characters from this game. Heres an idea if you dont like it so much then ignore it and move on jeez.

From pretty much every standpoint the ones I mentioned are pretty archaic.
I can understand the appeal of FFVI, but FFIV is a pretty silly game. I understand it has charm from the standpoint of it being a "classic" and I am able to enjoy it, but as better than later Final Fantasy games? Ehhhh.

Dragon Age: Origins became so cliched and boring after you hit Ironfor-I mean Orzammar, that I actually stopped playing because of it.
I couldn't even stomache the idea of 2.
I'll stand by Mass Effect simply because it really is quite creative, especially the deeper you go into the backstory, but it can also get really, really, REALLY cheesey and over the top at times.

It's not about you (not only you, at least).
I'm just expressing my concern for the way JRPGs have been going this last gen.
They havent been making as much of an impact as they used to (here in the West, I mean). And as a result, JRPG developers will be less and less prone to localize them outside Japan.
The Last Story is a great example. It's a big title, developed by the creator of Final Fantasy no less, and it never saw a trip to the west.

and did you see me rip Dragon Age Origins FOR BEING CLICHED? I actually even called it Lord of the Rings with gore. Dragon Age II is far less cliched than most RPGs in general, especially its plot. The most clcihed thing about the game is that it has elves, dwarves, and dragons in it, thats it.Ironic, his posts are turning into a cliche.I love when texasglodrush comes in and just says the same thing a million times "pfft most of bioware game arent clich in character and story but them jrpg just do the same thing over and over" Dude ME and DA2 has some cliche in them too. "Star Ocean IV is a game entirely void of originality or creativity. There is nothing here truly worthy of mention."
Star Ocean isn't creative or original? ROFL. I guess I am missing out on all of those future/fantasy based RPG's that involve going back in time and busting out of Area 51 that you are playing.
Keep up the crack reviewing job.

Never mind the fact that Bioware stated that ME3 has multiple endings and your choces determine them. The reason why mE1 and mE2 choices didn't matter much in their respective game is that they had to worry about continuity. They don't in ME3. They can make th eplot diverge as much as they want because there is no ME4 to wrry about. It was always a trilogy. A husband loses his marine wife in a Geth attack, but instead of releasing her body to him, they research it. Do you....a) let the military keep her body to help save more lives in future battles with the geth or b) force the military to give her body back to the husband. Not so black and white is it? And what is so bad about executing a criminal....they can't kill again. How is that a "bad" choice? EVERY RENEGADE CHOICE CAN BE MORALLY JUSTIFIED!!!!! There is no bad, its just cynical. In fact Paragons can be quite naive.
I put 40 hours into teh first one and on chapter 11 and I just want it to be over. I should've never gotten into a Final Fantasy game and now I feel like I have to beat it. Its been sitting around for a while.
Probably won't get into this one just for my sanity.
Star Ocean 4 had okay combat, lost it's charm the more you got into the game though. Game also looked pretty, but there are better looking RPGs and games in general.
Everything else about Star Ocean 4 was terrible. Game just gave me such a "meh" feeling the whole way through. That and it didn't give you freedom in deciding what characters you would get in your party like the previous 3 SO games.
Star Ocean 1-3 are far superior to SO4.
You see, this just shows. Complaining does work. They have pretty much addressed linearityin FFXIII.
It's not looking too bad but I still want to see more. And I really hope you don't play as Noel and Sarah for large portions of the game. Reminds me of the teeth clenching rage parts with Vanille in FFXIII. Lightning isn't the best protagonist in the final fantasy universe but she's better than all the characters in FFXIII at least. Still at least we know you get to battle chaos bahamut with her.
http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/2011/06/07/e3-2011-final-fantasy-xiii-2-demo-atlas-boss-battle-footage.html.... Nice the same boring battle system is back ...Great..GranMaster1god damnit. i seriously thought they were going to fix that. i think they should go back to the battle system in ff12. or anything other than just pressing x the entire freaking game.
I'm not even slightly impressed. The return of a horrible battle system, dull characters, and what seems to be a dull story. I don't even WANT to play it but feel compelled too because of my small hope it will recapture the franchises glory days. The cast of FF 13 was one of the worst cast of RPG's characters ever. I just wish they would remake 7 or 9 already. cyclops10
