Had it downloading and installed it overnight so I'm ready to go. For reference, it took up 37.5 GB on my PS4. Woof.
Gonna have to do some research on the classes so I'm not sitting at the character creation screen wondering what in the world to be.

You can be every class on one character so just get a character you like the look of first.
Didn't know the PS4 version had M&KB support, that's pretty awesome actually.
@seanmcloughlin: decent game, lacking end game content still. (even with 1.1) just needs alot more time to fill its content out imo. but best "Wow like" mmo to come out... by quite a margin.
I'll look forward to giving it a shot then :) Though I get bored of MMOs fast

you should be washing my car anyway, probie.

Holy Balls that's a big game.

Don't worry about that. You can utilize every class on the same character (by equipping their main weapon, and signing up at the appropriate place). I have a Monk/Dragoon/Marauder/etc.
Dragoon/Lancer are probably the most bad-ass looking (later levels) and they fill a DPS role.

You just wanna see me covered in suds right?

Well look at how easy that is! And look at how much I don't know about this game. :P
I'm really hoping to have a good time with this; I'm fairly certain I won't pay a monthly fee for this but if I enjoy it then I enjoy it. Would maybe consider it further if it went F2P.
@Zassimick: It won't go F2p for awhile (maybe a year or two if that), FF14 ARR is actually one of the most profitable games SE has released in awhile. Plus FF11 is still sub based and that game has been going on since like 2003 :/
Also GILGAMESH!!!!

Personally, I don't mind the fees if I enjoy the game enough. Considering the hundreds of hours i've invested since launch, i'd say it's fair game for me. ATM, i'm having most of my fun with the crafting/gathering classes, as they are so fleshed out, that you can enjoy them even without levelling your main to max.

I can dream! >_<
But it's Square-Enix and if what you say is true then it probably won't. But maybe if I love the beta I'll ante up.

You can dream while playing on Gilgamesh eh eh eh? :P
What is all this Gilgamesh stuff? I know he's a character to the series but how's he relevant?
It's also the server where everyone that's cool plays on.
Which reminds me I need to lvl my professions again, got my allowances back up to 100 so it's time to use them.
Monthly fee's? I'll pass on that.
Yeah I hate monthly fees for games but I will try the beta at least
i wish it had no monthly fees, i'd try it
Yeah, me too. :(
I think it's around $11 a month... If you get enough enjoyment, it's nothing. I've played hundreds of hours since release.
That's fair, I just dont condone paying a monthly fee to play a game. Maybe I'll try this one out and see if it could change my mind on that,

I get that... Monthly fees can be annoying. I'm just hoping there's enough end-game content with this game... I've hit lvl 35 in the story. I level 50'd some gathering/crafting classes, which ar ekinda fun.
I'll try it. I know I'm getting elder scrolls online for PC come March 30th because I loved the beta tests. So I will probably not get this in the end.
Gilgamesh is the biggest non-legacy server so you'll be sure to find lots of peeps on there. It's also the unofficial role-playing server to boot.
People need to post their names to boot so everyone can add each other. I'm on Gilgamesh @whiskey struck

there's difficult end game content but when you're done building the best weapon (whichever you're building) you'll hit a brick wall. There's absolutely nothing to do or at least that how it was the first three months of game's release. One of my friends was playing this like a mofo and when he was done with the raid bosses on hard mode there's nothing left. Best part by far is the leveling you're currently doing

It seems so. SE seem to be introducing patches pretty regularly, and 2.1 added some end-game content. Running hard/extreme primals should be fun for a while, and the addition of Leviathan could be cool.
Still, like you say, once you're done finishing out the best weapon/gear, there may not be much to do.

No, but if you're looking for role-players that's where you'll find them (or on Balmung).

Sub fees in ongoing games like this sort of HAVE to be implemented, otherwise you end up with microtransactions everywhere which I think is what happened to GW2 and everyone started hating it

pretty much but im still 100% against monthly fees unless its something like $3 a month lol

Hell, they add up... Now we have Live/PSN, plus potential monthly fees elsewhere. I used to only have to pay $60 a year, and that was fine... Now i'm gonna hit $200-300 :P

Yeah I don't really like them either. I usually just like to pay one lump sum and forget about it
Does FFXIV have a "pay for a year" kind of option or anything?

Don't think so. The last time I checked I think the limit was like three months at a time.
Played it for about a month on PC, it was alright but not that good. Seems like the controls would be much worse on PS4.
Want this game so bad but a P2P service is an investment that I can only make to a game that I would really really really like and this probably aint it
For those interested, you can now boot up the launcher and create/register your SE account. Might as well get that out of the way.
