I dont know how credible they are but they seem legit

Interestingfacts

73 million revenue just forOctober3

308000copies of fallout NV sold ( that is only steam from DD sites only for october and only DD not including retail so you can imagine that in Pc New vegas by now surely sold more than 1 million )

Steam's October top 10:

But i thought 80% of sales came from DD. PC gamers change the numbers to suit their arguments?

Maybe Valve should have kept the steam sales under wraps after all. Now we know how poor they are.

1. Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda Softworks) - 308,000 Units ($49.99)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Resurgence Pack (Activision) - 228,000 Units ($7.49)
3. Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve) - 178,000 Units ($15.00)
4. Counter-Strike (Valve) - 114,000 Units ($9.99)
5. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch (Valve) - 78,000 Units ($4.99)
6. DogFighter (Dark Water Studios, Ltd) - 67,000 Units ($1.50)
7. Frontlines: Fuel of War (THQ) - 53,000 Units ($2.99)
8. Medal of Honor (Electronic Arts) - 52,000 Units ($59.99)
9. Civilization V (2K Games) - 51,000 Units ($49.99)
10. Half-Life (Valve) - 48,000 Units ($4.99)

So it's 5 million in retail(shipped!), and 300k in Steam?

I think those are pretty good numbers for one month on PC. I hope we get these charts in the future too. Also insane how HL1, a 12 year old game, can still sell 50k a month.

Good sales, and keep in mind this does not count retail from what I understand.

Bad sales what you ve been smokin? Fallout NV sold 308000 on Steam alone from october 19 till october 31. Thats only on Steam no other DD sites and only for 12 days and not icnluding retail also 73million in just october is bad? How much did PSN or live made in october ?

You're gonna compare Xlive which sells arcade games to steam? What about other DD sites? Steam is the most popular by far and the sales are likely 80% smaller on other DD sites. Whenever they release retail numbers and how abysmal PC sales are, every PC gamer points to steam. Now we know that Steam numbers aren't all that too.

Whoever tells you that is lying. PC gamers will buy what they want and what they please. Their is a loud minor hardcore group that will tell you other wise.

Half Life in the top 10 with 48,000 units o.o

That game had like 10 million copies sold YEARS AGO, YEARS. Back before Digital Distribution was the thing, and they had tracked retail sales of the game.

It's awesome that it still sells so amazingly well so many years after it's release. A lot of people playing one of the best FPS games of all time :)

It still happens, unfortunately. We don't completely bend over like the Xbox users have in the last few years, thankfully, as you guys have been the ones to set the bar in reasonable customer expectations so low that every greedy muppet company is trying to gouge every gamer of every platform preference out there.

The PC was playing online games for 10 years before consoles were, but DLC only became popular with the arrival of the 360.

Explain that.

I fail to see how 300,000 units of NV is "bad." Especially considering retail and the other digital stores out there like Direct2Drive.

Steam is still far from the majority for games sales on PC. Retail is still at around 50%, there are many, many DD alternatives. How is 300k sales in one month bad from one DD service, excluding all the other DD services and retail? and who the hell ever said that PC sales were going to beat console sales? They don't need to in order to make the game worth bringing out on PC, especially with the much higher profit margins with PC games (esp so with DD).

You'd think people silly enough to pay for those DLCs would have moved onto Black Ops as soon as it was released. Guess not.

God damn how many copies of Half life have been sold?
also lol at Vgchartz, i dont know why they bother trying to count PC sales, they just fail at it

also MOH flopped, maybe because it was a bad game, but of course it flopped due to piracy

and it looks like L4D2 has far outsold the 360 version if it sold over 100k units last month

and shame on PC gamers for buying the MW2 map packs, i guess it was 8 bucks for 5 maps, that isnt too bad

While these numbers are interesting, we cannot extrapolate the number of PC copies sold solely through this information. The only thing we do know is that Fallout New Vegas shipped roughly 5 million units worldwide to retailers last month, and in that same time frame sold 308,000 units on Steam. Steam accounted for approximately 5.8% of total sales.

There's one other interesting piece of information there. Medal of Honor. It sold (over) 2 million copies last month. Steam sales were at 92,000 including pre-orders sold prior to launch (link). The ratio of Steam purchases for that title are therefore slightly less flattering than NV's -- it accounted for no more than 4.6% of total sales.

'Approximately 29 titles launched via Steam during the month, but only the aforementioned three titles (Fallout New Vegas, Medal of Honor and 'Bloody Good Time') recorded over 10,000 units sold during the month via the network.'

Well, this is for the month of October and Black Ops came out November 9th. The Resurgence Pack and MW2 will probably fall off the map if we get a November update (it's definitely not in the Top 20 Sellers anymore).

those 3 games are not really big PC games, Blizzard/Valve/EA (maxis are dead, so ill say EA) and a few other titles (Stalker did over 4million?)

SC2 has no doubt sold over 5million by now, PC games have strong legs unlike console games, i reckon SC2 will outsell SC1 in time due to it being more casual friendly (Ranks and Region locks, no newbies vsing pro koreans lol) SC1 has probly outsold the sims, when was the last time blizzard counted its sales? same for WC3 and D2

Maybe not Medal of Honor, but I think the Fallout name is still really big. It's still a big PC game. It's obviously a bigger console game now, but it's still one of the PC's pedigree titles.

After all, Fallout NV outdid Civilization V's two month sales on Steam, which are still under 300,000 (link). Civ is a big PC game.

If I had to bet anything, I'd guess that Black Ops will easily pick up second place behind StarCraft 2 in PC sales this year. But of course it will still be a much bigger console game.

The big PC game examples would be Starcraft 2 and World of Warcaft. In the strategy genre, CIV has to compete against Starcraft 2.

Well, I think there was an article that described how Steam accounted for 70% of the DD market, but I've never seen anything about the 80% figure regarding sales and DD :? Of course that doesn't mean it isn't true, it's just that it would be news to me.

SakusEnvoy

those 3 games are not really big PC games, Blizzard/Valve/EA (maxis are dead, so ill say EA) and a few other titles (Stalker did over 4million?)

Cata will be the 2nd highest selling PC game, SC2 being the first, bad company 2 will be thrid, Black ops might not even be 4, COD isnt that popular on PC after MW2, not to mention Black ops was unplayable for a bit, hell im using a dual core and im still lagging on Black ops, unoptimized garbage and where is my modding tools?

Steam takes 98.3 % per game. I know this because I made that number up.

Whatever it is, Steam puts more revenue in the pockets of developers than traditional brick and mortar publishers do. Probably why the service is so popular with indie developers.

I think the biggest draw for Steam from Indie devs is the fact that they dont need a publisher to get their games on Steam, as apposed to retail, which can be a lot more complex and expensive of a process. I know the Red Orchestra devs talked a lot about this when the game was released.

In terms of revenue, Steam supposedly takes a slightly smaller percent of revenue then retail only does, but I dont think that includes the extra costs that are associated with retail launches such as packaging and manufacturing.

As much as I like Steam, I think in an ideal world people should always try going directly to an indie dev's website and see if they host their own digital download service. That's probably the biggest way to help them out in the long run.

True but how many people are gonna take notice of an indie game by visiting the dev webside On steam you have more than 30 million accounts so a lot of people are gonna take notice that game

Stardock estimates Steam is 70% of total DD market.

Steam is estimated as 80% of total UK DD market.

DD estimated to be about half of total PC market in US

Given the large install base, I do not find those Fallout NV numbers very impressive for the PC. They aren't mediocre, but they do demonstrate weakness compared to their console sales counterparts, which is interesting for a PC heritage game.

10. Half-Life (Valve) - 48,000 Units ($4.99)

of course on console you are comparing shipped figures to actual sales... the consoles arent really doing that much better, unless you group ps3 and xbox 360 together as one.

Tthose numbers are terrible. New vegas in xbox alone sold in the millions, millions vs 300000, Pc is dead. Half life 1 is even in their top 10, I guess they don't even have new games to buy. Most of them are pirates anyway, I guess buying a 3000$ alienware system don't leave much to buy games.

The debate is over pc gaming is no longer relevant, 73 m $ is not even worth mentioning.

Don't worry buddy, I understand that after expending 3000$ of your hard earned cash you have to somehow justify all this situation, you can still buy half life 1, my father told me it was a AAA the century before.

Well in 1 century in the future consoles will rely on DD just like PC now Also reading skills much? 308000 copies on only one DD site ( granted the biggest ) in only 12 days and without retail included. But then again i'm playing Mass effect 2 on my 3 year old 800euros Pc so i must be delusional and i'm leaving in an alternative world since i need a 3000rig and i need to upgrade every month

Somebody told me that they have to put mods to even make that game playable, I mean you must have programming skills to even play this game, That right there is the best the pc can come with. The numbers speak for themselves, you can't hide with DD sales anymore.
