Fire Emblem: Fates Will Allow Gay Marriage and Relationships

Nintendo's new Fire Emblem will introduce same-sex marriage to the strategy role-playing game series, Nintendo confirmed to Polygon today.

"We can confirm that Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS, which launches in Japan on June 25, 2015, and is coming to the U.S. and Europe in 2016, includes the possibility for a same-sex marriage to take place between the main character created by the gamer and another character in the game," Nintendo said in a statement.

"We believe that our gameplay experiences should reflect the diversity of the communities in which we operate and, at the same time, we will always design the game specifications of each title by considering a variety of factors, such as the game's scenario and the nature of the game play," Nintendo said. "In the end of course, the game should be fun to play. We feel that Fire Emblem Fates is indeed enjoyable to play and we hope fans like the game."

"Fire Emblem Fates comes in two different versions, called the Conquest and Birthright editions," Nintendo said. "In the Conquest edition of the game, there is a male character that the game's player may have his/her male main character marry after they bond in battle. Similarly, the Birthright edition features a female character that a female main character may marry after bonding in battle. Both of the aforementioned characters can be encountered in the third edition of the game."

Cool, will it actually be a fire emblem that Illmatic and Techno can actually justify when they gas it up? That's the bigger question.

What's with these different versions?

Two sides of the same story- each version tells a story of the different side in the war between two factions. After Chapter 3, the campaigns apparently diverge and provide a completely separate story. Mechanically, Conquest is harder and for vets, and Birthright is more accommodating of newcomers, or people who only played with permadeath off.

Of course, it also helps Nintendo earn roughly twice the money...

Intelligent Systems is oblivious to decades of actual rpgs doing the branching storyline thing, and felt the only way they could do it with Fire Emblem was to Pokemon/ZeldaOracleGames it.

Wait... They charge money for both those versions? What's wrong with having branching paths in one game? Other games have done it before.

Main character is entirely customizable. You can make the main character a black gay female if you want to.

Why does this have to be in a video game, why don't they just leave things like this out, what do I care if a character is gay or bi or straight, this does nothing to enhance the gameplay whatsoever, only thing this dose is allow people to Criticize and show hate. This is like saying nathen drake or master chief will be gay in the next game, what do I care, how does that enhance gameplay. I really don't like when a characters sexual preference is determined for us.

In fact most of the world doesn't agree with same sex activities, so just because you see a lot of "oh good job for including this" doesn't mean it's what the majority of people think. Simple as that. You don't have to accept their lifestyles but at least have the courtesy to tolerate it.

Tolerance is all well and fine until you conflate it with acceptance--which is a common trend among people who want to carry water for the homosexual sub-cultures.

For instance, if I said that this game should be boycotted for turning gaming into a flagrant propaganda platform and that the producers should be punished by the market for insinuating certain views (upon the audience to which it caters) that reflect a fictional embracing of homosexuality--by the larger culture--as a value system, then I'd probably be referred to as an intolerant "homophobe" even though I haven't really [i]done[/i] anything against homosexuals or the producers beyond simply not buying their wares.

Thusfar, homosexuals--or at least the media outlets that represent them--have proven to be the most intolerant people I've ever encountered. More often than not, I'm called "intolerant" for merely criticizing homosexual behavior and same-sex marriage. Clearly, the only way I could possibly avoid the title is to agree with everything homosexual activists (demand) say.

It's a testament to the idiocy of the Social Justice Warrior mindset that the acronym/phrase is so eclectic and far-reaching.

I realize it's a common approach to simply patronize and disparage the views of people you disagree with using the populist approach (see also: "born that way", "marriage is a right"), but despite the views of most proponents of identity politics, not everyone agrees that attraction is dictated by an abstract feeling or an unaccountable gene--or with the idea that taxpayer dollars should be invested into marriages that don't offer any growth investments. As such, I wouldn't allow my children to be exposed to this kind of propaganda, personally. I wouldn't want the ideals of identity politics to rub off on their impressionable minds--nor would I want to support the organization that's pushing those ideals.
