No, I still think that they are a pathetic way of making people buy more games even if they are crap. Once a game like Avatar appears were you can get the trophies easily, and you will see what I mean. Sales wise and as a company imo its the best idea ever. But as a gamer, I just dont care. I will only get the ones for the games I like and I wont even work to get the hardest ones, cause it normally requires you to force yourself in finishing the game playing it in a way you may not like.

Many Cows will learn to love Achievements.

Many of you hated because from a distance, you couldn't see what the fuss was about. But a casual glance at the system is not how you experience Achievement systems. It's almost like looking over the shoulder of someone playing World of Warcraft and expecting to understand why hours upon hours are devoted to that game. just by looking at it.

No, there's something to earning those achievements that make you play a game a little longer than you might initially have.

1. There's invite systems within a game. I can msg a friend "pop in COD4 and play w/ me". He comes, I invite him. In Warhawk and MGO, a friend can go to his friends list, click on me, and click "Join Game". These methods are for many many games. Even Rainbow Six has invites. Same with Splinter Cell Double Agent. Home is also going to do this. But it's already here. Cross-game though is just 2 seconds faster. I can msg a friend to come to my game, and he will come. Not worth $50.

2. When you hold the PS Button, it auto-pauses in 99% of games so I don't know what you're talking about. In-Game XMB doesn't auto-pause, but auto-pausing isn't worth $50 a year.

3. Community programs are coming with Home. I think Silver accounts get Community stuff, so really, Gold is still a rip off.

4. How do you know PSN doesn't check for modded consoles? PS3 hasn't even been hacked yet. That says a lot for the security. It still doesn't have a custom firmware. Games can't be illegally downloaded because they're so big, so piracy for PS3 is not a problem. Hell, in the 360, people were already running GTA IV online 1 week earlier. Says a lot for "Aggresively checking modded consoles".

5. Matchmaking sucks. Period. Server lists are superior. SOCOM, Warhawk, MGO have a superior system. Matchmaking is weak. No one should be glad matchmaking came to this universe. It sucks. However, TrueSkill only works for like a couple of games on 360 so really, COD4 matchmaking is the same in both consoles.

6. How do you know trophies won't be patched into old games. They said it themselves many titles will be receiving an update. If third party devs can make achievements, they'll make trophies. Trophies aren't out yet and you're already criticizing it :lol:

In this article it says that games that are Trophy compatible **Requires a game update to be downloaded and installed. So does that mean every game that's Trophy compatible will take up more HDD space due to these installs, oh great.

What I meant was accessing the XMB. From the articles I've read, accessing the XMB does not pause your game. Is this no longer the case? Can someone confirm this for me?

Standard on paper, but in practice, it's not. There is at least a year of games that will need to be retrofitted for trophies. I don't see it happening for all of them. And those that have been patched will have to be replayed to get the trophies if you've played them already.

i've enjoyed PSN from the moment i bought my PS3.. free online multiplayer, standard buddy lists and usernames, downloadable content and etc is all that the average gamer can ask for and a tremendous step above what was offered on PS2 Online.. and PSN has been providing that since day one for free.. anything beyond that, was just "bragging rights" for the lemmings so that ehy could justify the $50 a year pricetag for their online multiplayer.. and sure, it has taken almost 2 years for PSN to get on the same page with XBL, but the time is now.. if you want to daydream about wat was happening 2 years ago, then go ahead.. have fun.. but the rest of us will be enjoying an online service that's on par with XBL Gold but without the yearly subscription....

and i wouldnt exactly call an 2008 release for Home as "nowhere in sight".. it's already nearly July 08.. i guess that means Gear of War 2 is also "nowhere in sight" since it's releasing later this year....

Some people complaints will never cease to amaze me. No auto-pause? Guess what, even before this some games don't auto pause, some do, it's up to the devs if tey want it. No one ever complained. And btw, auto-pause won't help you if you're playing online.

Did they mention anything about you being able to view anyone's Achievements, I mean, Trophies and not just people on your friend's list and do it during the game?
