Did they mention anything about you being able to view anyone's Achievements, I mean, Trophies and not just people on your friend's list and do it during the game?

ReverseCycology

Yes, you can view other peoples trophies and compare against your own.

Sounds familiar I know

edit, just read that properly. Not sure you can. But id assume it would appear under the players met section.

Thanks for editing, because I just watched the video again, and all he did was go to his friend's list and compared Trophies. Not we just gotta wait and see if you could compare random people during games and such.

so why has it taken Sony years to pretty much exactly copy off of Microsoft, and do you know what makes it worse is that guy tries to make it all sound new and innovative when it still lacking in features that live has.

yep. we also neeed to see what's up with the game invites and voicechat.

but really, the features have arrived. PS3 will no longer feel like a nextGen console with lastGen online tech.

and custom soundtracks.

win.

lol, XBL really is a rip-off now. The only thing missing from PSN is cross-game chatting and that's not worth 50 bucks a year. Have fun with your service, lemmings!

VoodooHak

PSN is also missing cross-game invites, auto-pause when you hit the PSbutton, Community Calendar, Community programs, a closed network that aggressively checks for modded consoles, a universal matchmaking system, and trophies being standard across all games.

in terms of those "communtiy features" you mentioned, say hello to PLAYSTATION HOME.. I'll take Home over a Community Calendar anyday...

And Home is coming when? Public beta at the end of the year. If you want waiting over what's here now, then more power to you.

"auto-pause" when you hit the PS Button?.. that's already here..

What I meant was accessing the XMB. From the articles I've read, accessing the XMB does not pause your game. Is this no longer the case? Can someone confirm this for me?

standard trophies?.. i understand that it may be hit-or-miss with titles that are already released but please believe that after after July 2nd, any 360 multiplat game that has acheivements will obviously have the trophy equalivant on the PS3 version aswell.. this will be across the board.. therefore it's "standard"...

Standard on paper, but in practice, it's not. There is at least a year of games that will need to be retrofitted for trophies. I don't see it happening for all of them. And those that have been patched will have to be replayed to get the trophies if you've played them already.

just face it.. the gap between PSN and XBL is closing.. fast... and how about this standard PSN feature?: FREE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER.. what's XBL's answer to that?.. :?

It's closing... but fast? Not really. There's still features that are missing.

Responses above.

1) regardless, Home answers your concerns about "community" and then some.. It's still set for release this year, with open beta this fall.. if it gets pushed back a little further, noone is going to die.. i'd rather them take their time and get it right instead of pushing out a rushed product..

2) Oh, i missread your post.. sorry.. currently, pushing the PS button pauses the game but that doesnt appear to be the case with the in-game XMB judging from the vids i've seen.. but i dont really see how this is a feather in the cap of XBL since there is still a "pause button" and auto-pause can be reimplemented via firmware update..

3) Standard in practical usage?.. yes.. keep in mind that trophies are a "new" feature for PSN.. that being said, nobody expects all games released prior to this new feature to take advantage.. if devs retrofit previously released games, then that's great.. but starting July 2nd, trophies are indeed a standard feature for upcoming titles.. now realistically, there will be a few holdouts.. devs that are behind the curve.. but for the most part, if devs want their game to sell and be highly rated, they are going to include these features once they are accepted as "standard".. if you want to hold on to the idea that there may be a few more titles released this year that may have acheivements on the 360 but lack trophies for the PS3 version, then fine.. but keep in mind that those days are numbered and that argument is incredibly weak..

4) missing features?.. where's XBL's free online multiplayer?.. that's BIG feature of PSN.. standard.. how about you address that one....

I hope so, there's nothing better when I'm online than rather than playing the game, looking at my teammates and opponents trophies and then yelling "noobs" on the mic like a 12 year old. That's the basic fundation that XBL stands on.

first time things for Sony. Remember, they're not a software company. As such, they should be proud of themselves for getting it done. Especially given how different the PS3 OS architecture is. They've had to do a lot of refinements in order to find the memory necessary to add these features while not taking anything away from the developers.

Think about it like building a house...then deciding you want to change the foundation. It's easy to do when you're just beginning construction...very hard once you have a finished product that uses every resource to do something.

Also, we know they don't have a good track record for delivering on promises, so let them pat themselves on the back.

And let the users pat themselves on the back too. They fought for these features.

Playing the games again to get the trophies now that sucks but it was exspected. I saved alot of games on my HDD because I didn't want to play thru them again to get the trophies now I might as well delete them.

I bet some little kid hurt your feelings :?

It doesn't take more than a few seconds to look up someone's profile in the game your playing;i find it to be pretty useful sometimes.

2. When you hold the PS Button, it auto-pauses in 99% of games so I don't know what you're talking about. In-Game XMB doesn't auto-pause, but auto-pausing isn't worth $50 a year.

it does this as standard on the 360 you don't have to pay 50 a year for it

Oh and live still gets more demos more trailers more movies and 5 times the amount of content I ever had on the PSN and that's because people pay that $50 a year so Microsoft has more money to pump back into it for every body not just the gold subscribers, that's why PSN will never win Sony has no incentive to put money into it because its just a lose/lose situation.

Fast? are you sure about that? it took them almost 2 years to get to "almost there" and HOME is nowhere in sight.

if you want to daydream about wat was happening 2 years ago, then go ahead.. have fun.. but the rest of us will be enjoying an online service that's on par with XBL Gold but without the yearly subscription....

I have a PS3 dude. So I know what the rest of you have been enjoying.

and i wouldnt exactly call an 2008 release for Home as "nowhere in sight".. it's already nearly July 08.. i guess that means Gear of War 2 is also "nowhere in sight" since it's releasing later this year....

I would call anything that has vague details and has missed multiple release "windows" as nowhere in sight.I might be missing something here, but has there been a solid release window for HOME this year?

At least the Gears platform has already launched and is not an unknown. You can expect Gears 2 this holiday. But I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed. These things happen. But if you think HOME is coming out this year:

I bet they don't even have anything on it during E3. I could be wrong though, but after hearing impressions about HOME from some people, it needs more time to bake.

I would if the 2.4 update were not hitting in 2 days and the movie service were not coming this summer. But other then that it looks like Sony doesn't care about PSN.

i guess you've never heard of Qore...

that's a way for Sony to generate revenue for more demos, trailers, content, and etc for those that are interested.. just like you suggested, these things cost money and for PSN users that equates to $25 a year (which is still less than an XBL Gold sunscription btw).. and it's totally optional.. it equates to how XBL Gold members get some content before Silver members do.. for example, the incredible Hulk trailer was available via Qore well before it was available on the Playstation Store.. beyond that, please name some recent multiplat demos that are available on the XBL Marketplace but cant be found on the Playstation Store.. please, make your long list.. also Home will also generate money for PSN via optional microtransactions, developer sponsored ads/events, and etc.. so your radical idea that Sony or Microsoft MUST charge the gamers mandatory fees for this $$$ and support is completely false..

for everyone else, the meat and potatoes of online gameplay (THE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER) remains free of charge. on PSN..

well congrats on having a PS3.. that being said, i'm sure you're enjoying the great news just like the rest of us.. ;)

and yea, Home has been delayed.. i personally dont care.. i want it to release "when it's ready".. if that means mid 2009, then so be it.. i'll enjoy it when it gets here.. the latest word is late 2008, and that's what i'm referring to.. until an offical announcement for a 2009 release is confirmed i wont mention it.. just like you said, things happen.. so the point is moot.. currently, holiday season 2008 doesnt qualify as "nowhere in sight".. if you're referring to God of War 3 or maybe Final Fantasy XIII, then yea.. but Home?.. no, i disagree...

the in-game XMB is what me and many others have been asking for.. it'll be here in 2 days.. what else needs to be said.. Home is just icing on the cake when confronted by lemmings that mention things like "Community Calenders" as a reason why they are still paying $50 a year..

This is stupid. Every game should support trophies, not 7. This is a botched attempt, and they should have just put in-game XMB and left well enough alone. It looks like a fake 360 now. Millennium_King

You know they just listed first party right? They said if any previous games want it all the dev has to do is patch it.
