Firstly these are screencaps, and secondly, the engine is going to improve

With that said, the urban stuff looks like crap, the jungle stuff was okay. The view distance was reduced, which is okay, but the textures REALLY suffered. As for all the effects, they seem to have been preserved well.

I don't see your logic, people have know for a while Crytek are aiming to break into the console market. Also, Cryengine for the PC and Console will be like night and day, needless to say the PC version will be the vastly better looking one (the pics prove this).

Reading through this thread, I see more Hermits defending Cryengine 3 while far more consolites are bashing it. It would seem the console fans are the angry ones in this case, for some reason.

Those pitcures' quality suck.

I've seen the video and it definitely is almost on par with Crysis' HIGH settings. Compare Medium and High and you'll see it's much closer to the latter. If you look at it, it kinda makes sense. The high-end 7 and X1 series managed to play the game on High with 15-20 frames per second, with some good console optimization they've managed to make it look like that while running smoothly across the board. I've always thought the maximum they could get from the consoles was the High level of settings, and now that they've actually ported the engine over I see they've achieved just that.

Crysis looked impressive within those levels, so I suppose the console games will look great as well. Nothing will beat the original though.

Edit: Well I hope I didn't come across as saying "it looks as good as High/Gamer on Crysis". It's CLOSE, but it's not on the same level... Console games will still look great though.

Check the other topics. The Hermits are actually happy about this. It's the console fanboys that are too defensive of Killzone 2 or whatever and don't know how good Crysis looks that are "pissed".

Also, the people who keep saying that this video looks like Crysis on High, I just have to say one thing to you; Actually go play Crysis. Saying it looks like Medium is a stretch.

In motion it looked pretty good (Waterfalls looked great). However it stinks compared to Cryengine 2. scoobiesnackarf

Based on the sun there, I can tell that's not even Crysis on it's maximum; not even close.

Still is many times better than the console engine, of course.

This will get better in due time. Might need to configure a new Rig sometime soon. :)

I think, given time and effort, it will give any current console engine a serious run for it's money. If a developer uses this seriously, like when Crytek made Crysis, we could see some ery good looking console games. Of course it's not going to compare to Crysis on pC as that has seemingly unlimited potential.

Although we are aware the quality of these images are useless for comparison; we can still get useful information out of them.

The most noticeable being foliage density both on the floor and with distant LOD trees on the mountain. I also suspect the sky is a flat texture with clouds rather than using volumetric effects.

Ugh, the grass just kills it...I've seen PS2 games that looked better in that category.

Also, while not engine related...that gun design is one of the worst I've seen.

Again, that is not Crysis Max'd .. and I'm not een talking about modded or .ini edited. I'm talking about features in the menu. That sun makes it too obvious.

Looks like my nearly 5 year-old computer (with a X1650Pro) running Oblivion.

Yea, pretty sad. You don't even need Crysis on PC at Max to look better than Cry Engine 3 on Consoles. High alone looks far better than Cry Engine 3. I'd rather them keep using Cry Engine 2 for the PC exclusives they do rather than using Cry Engine 3. Make a little Spin off on consoles with Cry Engine 3 and release a true Crysis sequel exclusive on PC with Cry Engine 2. Considering Crysis sold around 2 million copies (and is still selling not even including Warhead) they should get even more sales in the future.
