- Mickey's appearance is much, much closer to his original debut style
- Disney was the one to approach Spector
- Spector originally was against the idea of creating a Mickey game, because he said that he didn't do kids games
- Spector changed his mind when Disney said that they were looking for someone to 'reinvigorate' Mickey
- Disney had to get back the rights to Oswald before he could be used in this game
- the sorcerer Yensid creates a pen-and-paper world for his forgotten creations, which is where Oswald lives
- this world is similar to Walt Disney World
- Mickey enters this world through a magic mirror, and accidentally spills paint and paint thinner on the drawing of this world. Mickey escapes before Yensid finds out.
- The spill that Mickey caused ends up turning the drawing into a twisted version of what was originally created.
- the Phantom Blot ends up taking over this world
- many years later, after Mickey becomes successful, he re-enters the mirror and sees what has happened to the world. The Phantom Blot drags Mickey into the world, which is where your adventure begins
- use the Wiimote to paint in buildings, platforms and more
- swipe away enemies with the Wiimote when using paint thinner
- create/destroy the world as you go along
- Junction Point took hundreds of photos while at Disney World in order to capture the essence of the park, and translate ideas into the game
- play the game as you like, either destroying everything in sight, or taking the hero's route. It's completely up to you, and you can mix-and-match play ****
- Gremlin Village is reminiscent of 'It's a Small World'
- Mickey's appearance and stance will change based on the way you play the game
- trade some items for health
- Pete returns, and at one point attacks you with a huge zepplin
- Donald Duck animatronic pieces are scattered throughout one portion of the game. Collect them to put him back together.
- Spector wants this game to scare kids, in some ways
- the game will also have funny parts
- Spector calls the game world's visuals 'the bastard child of Tim Burton and Disney'
- elements of platforming, exploration and role-playing
- go into the inner-workings of some levels and rides
- visit the gears and mechanics underneath the 'It's a Small World' ride, complete with an eerie re-imagining of the music
- enter movie screens to move from in-game island to island
- movie screen transitions put you into a 2d world, where you'll revisit some of Mickey's old cartoons
- find sketches, and bring them to life with your paintbrush
- sketches can be activated to give you new powers (clock sketch to slow time, TV sketch to distract enemies, and more)
- collect 'E-Tickets' to enter rides, and use as a form of currency to buy power-ups
- Jim Dooley 'Pushing Daises' is doing the soundtrack

Warren Spector on Mickey

"I want him to be a hero...and I want to remind him that it's okay to behave badly."

Warren on Oswald

"All he really wants is to be loved by Walt Disney. In the end, the Blot won the war and pushed Oswald into hiding and exile."

Warren on the Gremlins

"The Gremlins are the only forces of good in the world that can continue to fight against the Blot.

Warren on the Bunny Kids

"These are going to be the breakout stars of the game. Mark my words."

Warren on the Buddies (Donald, Goofy, ect.)

"Oswald is trying to recreate Mickey's life, so he has the Mad Doctor build these animatronic versions of his buddies."

Warren on the Mad Doctor

"He's from an early 30's cartoon that is pretty swell."

Warren on the Phantom Blot

"The Phantom Blot has been a consistent villain since 1939. He's just been lame."

Warren on the Blotlings

"They're the popcorn unit. You need something that the player can just swat away. They're supposed to be funny, silly and stupid."

Warren on the Beetleworx

"In order to deal with these guys, you have to erase their painted bits to get to the vulnerable inert spots underneath."

This would have been much better on the PS3/360. Expect low-quality graphics. I know it's not the graphics that makes the game...BUT with such artwork and drawings explained to be in the game, the world would have been much better portrayed artistically with the power of PS3/360. Making it one of the best-looking games this generation.

could you fanboys please shut up? there's no way that it's coming to an overpriced flop like the PS3, because it wouldn't sell

if you're not happy with your watered down pc games go complain somewhere else.

Looks like someone didnt get the memo. The Wiis not allowed to have any good third party games, its unfair to us PS3/360 owners. I mean sure we get alot of quality third party games, BUT THATS NOT ENOUGH!!

For people complaining that this should be on another console you have to put some things into perspective. 1) Disney loves the Wii 2) This game is more suited to the Wii demographic (I'm pretty sure most PS3 and 360 Users would not buy this game they would probably say Mickey Mouse is kiddy) 3) Cost and reward. Wii has the highest sales and the lowest development costs, therefore, there is more reward than risk on Wii. 4) Me > You

Epic Mickey has no business sounding this great. I just hope Disney doesn't interfere with Spector & Co.

The Wii is okay. Just seems like such a vibrant world. It would make such good use of the power of the current gen consoles. Seems a bit of a shame to have it as PS2 graphics. Not that I'm a graphics whore, I still play my PS2 alot.

I really can't see the difference. Polygons, textures, resolution all seems about the same to me. I think the PS2 would play any game thats on the Wii. The original Xbox seems more powerful that the Wii.

They're going to avoid showing how this title actually looks on the Wii as long as possible. My hope is that they've chosen to go with a hand-drawn 2D / 3D world, as if they've gone with traditional 3D rendering, the Wii's lack of hardware prowess would greatly take away from the smooth "Disney-like" animation I'd hope to see.

I think this game is perfect for the wii because of the controls and the fact it is an artistic game. technical power house games vary quality on different platforms but artisitc games can be good on any platform . If this games was on the ds I would still hype it. Games like De Blob, No More heroes, Madworld and Okami are good on the wii because they are artistic and original. Pi was an good movie even though it shot with crappy film quality.

That's actually not true - even if the game is a hand-drawn 2D game, the Wii's limited resolution and rendering ability hurts. Simple paintings on canvas have a real world contrast, resolution, and depth beyond what even the best 4K projectors are capable of delivering. To suggest that an artist should be limited to 720 x 480, and limited to essentially a Gamecube's visual capabilities, is sad. - And that completely fails to address the audio limitations of the Wii as well - the lack of discrete audio, and it's limited audio support, hurts as well. It pains me as someone who takes videogame sound seriously to hear the Wii. It doesn't have the output to work with sound systems, it can't create the kind of immerive audioscape I expect as an artist, and it certainly fails to deliver the overall "package". - I have no problem with the notion of playing "fun" games on the Wii, playing arcade games on the Wii, even playing a "control" experience like Metroid on the Wii. However, when I look at a game whose experience is ultimately about putting them player in a strange world, it makes no sense to me why someone would want their window to the world to be pixelated, or the sound recordings for their world to be on a cassette tape.

Thats because there are lazy developers who think they can get away with ps2 graphics just because the wii doesn't put a big deal on graphics.

Well they have been artistic games Before this generation. I can't see if developers are able to make artistic games before with crappier hardware, why not now? Like i said earlier, Okami, Madworld and De blob did fine.

Cool. But why on earth would you put it on the underpowered Wii?

So that people will play it.

the info sounds nice but the game look is disappointing. Expected something more stylized and twisted looking like the concept art. Also expected Mickey to be more mean looking and maybe have some ink coming out of him like the art from GI's cover.

well, maybe it'll look better in motion and they still have a year to work on it so...

This would have been much better on the PS3/360. Expect low-quality graphics. I know it's not the graphics that makes the game...BUT with such artwork and drawings explained to be in the game, the world would have been much better portrayed artistically with the power of PS3/360. Making it one of the best-looking games this generation.

Money, time and a greater goal perhaps? I know you feel strongly onthis while as I'm not really bothered but I do think they have underlying reasons to be honest. Not even necessarily gaming related reasons but eh, I'm more interested in what is being presented opposed to what may have been.

Edit: Saw the scans. That is one generically basic looking game. Even if I was not disappointed per say by platform choice I am disappointed that this game looks very mediocore graphically even for the Wii. Needs a hell of a lot of polish and I thought we were going to get art more in the style of the previously released works. My interest has lowered but I still want to see what is done.

THE SCANS ARE UP

it doesn't actually looks as stylistic as the art. it looks more traditional with an emphasis on the backgrounds

hy4k
Im disappointed but i will wait until i see better quality in game screens then just scans. I thought the colors would be more desaturated and dismal. Or a portion of the game will be b+w.

Phew! Good thing it's coming to the Wii instead of the SNES, huh?

Kinda disappointed actually with those scans. I was hoping it to look more twisted and stylish looking, but it still looks good. We will probably see the first trailer for this game at that event Disney is having in London.

The Wii is to the current generation what the SNES was to the N64. Arguing that the Wiimote "improves" games is like attempting to argue that the SuperScope makes Mode 7 comparable to true 3D rendering. - To a large degree I find the Wii-centric philosophy to be anathema to the gaming medium as a whole - and this type of release is why. Every now and then a truly exciting artistic idea winds up on the Wii, and the thought of what could have been physically pains me. It sickens me that people view this as a "victory" - that a downgraded experience is okay with them simply to justify the Wii as a system.
