First English reveiw of FF13....

"Final Fantasy XIII is going to be remembered by many for what it isn't and what it doesn't do. The game as a whole is worth playing, carried by its excellent battle system, engrossing visuals, unique sty le, and excellent all-around attention to detail. Its attempt to streamline the RPG experience to make way for a cinematic, story-driven experience is probably going to be looked down upon, especially since the story itself suffers from missteps. Players who can not let go of the fact that Final Fantasy XIII removes certain RPG conventions are going to have a rough hurdle to get over to enjoy the game. Players who are willing to let watery manga-esque stories and linearity slide are going to be free to enjoy the game's high points, which are very high indeed."

im not surprised. ive been saying for awhile this is going to happen and unless they take a drastic turn on FF15 then you can expect it to become an action platformer in 3-4 more iterations.

They lost me at "chocobo living in characters afro". Sorry, but until japan decides to tell an actual story worthy of my money, I'll pass.

I didn't expect any higher TBH, I lost interest in this game a long time ago, when the graphics were given blatantly obvious downgrades every time they released a new video, it was as if they were hoping we wouldn't notice, this is the Internet people, we can just look for the older videos and easily find them to be compared with the newer ones, also the gameplay looks boring like previous installments in the series (Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XII), I for one will certainly not be buying it.

I dont care...people hated ff xii and it was one of my fav,if not my fav, game of the ps2.

um despite what the review says (which I agree is the most important part) something compelled them to give the game a 7...

Personally I'm not surprised, after I saw that article on the myriad on complaints coming in on the game.

I think im finally starting to see what hakumono's being saying all along. The FF fanbase truly are the worst.

It pains me to see people destroy FF13 and complain about things that were greatly highlighted in FF12. Just that would be fine, but then you have to remember just how badly FF12 is trashed (IMO the worst of all games). This also proves what ive been saying for a while which is you should NEVER listen to the fanbase, because they dont know what they want. FF13 is squares answer to fans complaint, but apparently its not what they want.

Im not saying this in regards to the review but more so the general scope of whats been said on 13. Regardless of all that everything ive seen of the game so far is exactly what i want. Absoloutely cannot wait.

I feel that this will be a very enjoyable game, but have a feeling that a lot of people (like me) will go through playing and realize it's just missing something (except I actually know what's missing). Honestly from all that I have been reading about the game, it seems like if they took FFX and replaced it with the FF13 combat gameplay and used the white engine that FF13, FFX would be a better game than FF13.

Good sign. If the game is actually reviewed rather than overhyped like a lot of these "amazing" games, then it means a FF game will finally get scored instead of just hyped up. This might be the one of the first FF gams to not fall into the overrated category. Nice to see a FF game finally get actual criticism for a change. The more logical the ratings are, the more enjoyable the game will be. Might have to look into this one.sonicthemegaman

Very good is actually a 7....it says so on their review criteria link that is clickable on every review I've seen on the site.

It seems weird, but I actually get what sonicthemegaman is saying.

I was totally opposed to buying this because I disliked FFX and this one sounds just like it, but the balance in this review actually made me interested in the high points that they talked about in spite of my dislike for FFX-style linearity. If a reviewer seems like they aren't glossing over the negative points of a game, it makes one trust the reviewer more when they talk about the positives.
