if what miyamoto promises with the next zelda about a huge change in the series remains intact then id say that has a good shot. but by the time that comes out it will probably have a few points off because of the graphics being poor in comparison to 360 and PS3 games. hopefully it will have amazing artistic direction or be one of those games that people say "wow, the wii can actually pull that off?!" kinda game, like with resi 4 on GC and conker on xbox but even better! haha. only other game i can thinkit could be is maybe mass effect or MGS4. possibly resi 5, but it wasnt the huge jump that there was between previous resident evils and resi 4 though, so maybe not. b xx
btw was only halo, tony hawk 3(lol) and metroid prime the only ones on last generation that break the 9.6 barrier?

Not only that, all those games were released and reviewed before GS toughened their scoring system. Since then, no game has gone over 9.6. And PC games are unlikely to go over that number unless they're truly revolutionary, this owing to the fact that the PC's top end is much higher than that of consoles.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.
(In case you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, it's the new Resident Evil game coming to the Wii. The one that isn't Resident Evil 5, the one a lot of people seem think will be a low-quality side story.)
Virtua Tennis Wii. Well, it's gotta get there eventually. :P Jokes aside, I have no clue. There is alot of potential titles that could do it. Problem is if the devs put 'that' much effort into delivering.
Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 will all be around the range of 9.5. SSBB will probably get a 9.0. The MGS games dont really score high here. RE5 will if it is as good as RE4. That will be very hard to do, RE4 was a complete overhaul, can RE5 score the same if it doesnt do as much?
Halo 3 will get a 9.0 off of hype alone. Bungie is talking about all sorts of improvements and saying that Halo 2 wasnt a complete game. If they live up to their promises, they can do it. If not, the graphics whores here will rate it above 9.6 anyway.

So they tie for the high scorers of 2006. Moving on, the PS3 has missed AAA with VF5 and will likely miss with Motorstorm (IGN scored in the 8's, and GS typically underscores compared to IGN). Tekken 6 maybe, but don't be too surprised if it only hits the 8's. Lair and Heavenly Sword are wildcards--maybes.
I say none of the upcoming games will top 9.6. To go above it would require something really big. And if it comes from the PC, they have the additional obstacle of the higher standard.
Unable to tell the title of the game but I will tell you it may be ( no kidding ) an XBLA game to be released at end of 2007 ! Mega game compressed like no other and fits within the 50 MB cap !

mgs do score high here, mgs2 got 9.6 and mgs3 substinence got 9, thos scores are great.

The topic isn't asking what game will score a perfect 10, which I would agree won't ever happen here again. It's asking which game has the potential to breach the 9.6 barrier, even if that's by 0.1. I would say a 9.7 isn't totally beyond the realm of possibility even by the revised standards of Gamespot.
Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns Of The Patriots or Devil May Cry 4 or Motorstorm or maybe Killzone 2 who knows :)

In all fairness you're dreaming if you think DMC4 will score over a 9.6. While a great series, it's just not open and is too derivitive to score that high. Then again you said Motorstorm as well so i don't think you're that in touch w/ reality
