Thought Crysis was graphically insane enough? Not according to Crytek, this time they're aiming to make it "on film level". Beowolf quality facial detail. No details specifying if it's either a highly modified CE2 or the CE3 (CryEngine 3).

I still stand by my theory that graphics will hit a peak were they can't advance any further and then devs will pay more attention to detail instead of graphical beauty. Such as bullet holes in everything they hit, ricochet damage and visible damage and physics, damage to specific areas (think Gears and Soldier of Fortune but on everything, buildings, humans, machines, plants), advanced vapor and smoke physics. That is what I feel will be the future of video games, not photorealism.
At least thats what I would like to see happen.
yeah, I dont seem them making a new engine from scratch....their current one can do far more advanced things than modern hardware can handle (as shown by all the graphical tweaks)cobrax75
Why not? no one said it will be released any time soon...modern hardware will be old hardware by the time Crysis 2 is nearing release. They took 3-4 years to make Crysis and I would expect the same amount of time for the sequal. In 4 years what will the hardware be?
I doubt they would make a new engine when CE2 is already so advance, so I think its a higly modified engineLonelynightThe original CryEngine was also very advanced for it's time, and was only around for three and a half years until the CE2 came out. They revealed the engine just a year after FarCry came out.

Crysis took a long time because they made Crysis along with CryEngine 2

the difference in that case, was that in the same year farcry came out, their were 2 other high powered graphical engines released during that time (Source, and Doom 3) plus there was also UE2.5, which also looked pretty good, though not like cryengine 1.
the difference in this case is pretty frofound....their is simply nothing that can compete with cryengine 2 at this point.

Why didn't Crytek follow its own trend? Why not wait a year to announce CE3 or whatever they're new engine is? Sh**, Crysis just came out, what was it two weeks ago, even that?
lol @ new PCs.
lol @ hermits getting milked for graphics. OMG teh graphixxx! Too bad Crysis is one of the worst FPS I've played.

I still find it highly unlikely, Crytek is also licencning the engine to other devolepers, and why would you want them to use a new engine?

It's obviously going to be an improved version of CryEngine2. CryEngine 3 would imply that they are starting mostly from scratch, which would be borderline insane. I mean think about it... look at the 'tweaks' that hvae come out to improve graphics beyong Very High -- or better yet, look at the crazy effects and graphics people have produced in their usermaps. CryEngine2 is extremely powerful... its full potential simply hasn't been realized yet considering there isn't the hardware to do so.rimnet00
I agree, if you think logically about it, its smarter to just use an updated engine of CE2 rather than a whole new engine

Dual Geforce 128800GTX and an Intel Core 2 Deci w/32 Gigbytes of PC9-66000 memory will be needed to run it.Pro_wrestler
Don't be silly that will be the minimum requirments to run the next version of windows.
They love feeding the PC graphic wh***s. Oh wait, they need something to justify those $300+ video cards.

It's even smarter not to make another garbage FPS.

Why do some of you think this is hermits getting milked? This game is 2-3 years away, maybe even 4. I honestly wouldn't mind them making a new engine. Just shows how ambitious they are. Crysis will get an upgrade in 18 months. Yes, the fabled Ultra-High settings. Chances are they will add a higher res texture patch along with unlocking various other features sort of like with Far Cry. And yet again, this isn't milkage.... Whenever I do decide to upgrade, the game will be waiting, even better looking than before. It's ALWAYS been that way. Gives new life to the game too. And I certainly won't complain because Crysis is one of the best FPS's I have ever played.
Nvidia wasted everybody's time and money with these 8800 cards. JiveT
Not really 8800GT is a really good deal for its price(too bad they are sold out just about everywhere :( ). By the time Crysis 2 is released(if it is ever released) the 8800 will be an ancient card thus you needed to have upgraded anyway.

hell of a lot better than justifying paying for P2P.
You have a different identity in every PC game and get no acheivements. How do you justify that?[QUOTE="usmcjdk6"][QUOTE="Lonelynight"][QUOTE="rimnet00"]It's obviously going to be an improved version of CryEngine2. Might as well hype PDZ2 while you are at it. Crysis is overrated garbage, just like PDZ. Get used to it.

but paying for P2P, even with far better free alternatives on the PC...that have full support for dedicaded servers, and even user created content is priceless.

You have a different identity in every PC game and get no acheivements. How do you justify that?achievements suck anyway.... Seriously, WHY do you need a game to tell you that you achieved something? I knew I achieved something when I beat Crysis on Delta. Didn't need a game to tell me that....
Crysis 2 isn't 3-4 years away. They already have the engine, so they just need to optimize and modify it, which takes far less time then making a new one. I say Crysis 2 in Q4 2009 or Q1 2010. At the latest.Manly-manly-man
Also, the major improvements on Crysis will be textures, faces, and overall animation.
it'll probably be 500 dollars, and when buying a comp to run crysis 2, you're probably looking at 1000. so shhh.[QUOTE="ejstrup"]hurray we'll get to buy new pcs againwhocares9
By the time Crysis 2 will be out you will be on the next gen xbox so whocares? So you will be buying a new console hurray!

More like at the earliest.... If you have followed Crytek like me you would know they follow a STRICT 24 month development cycle. Never, EVER any less than 2 years development.

I don't believe you. SO prove it. You could easily prove it if you did it on a system with achievements.[QUOTE="Manly-manly-man"]Crysis 2 isn't 3-4 years away. Think about it. Crysis took 4 years. That includes building an engine from scratch, planning the story for all three games, settings, characters, etc. Q1 2010 is almost 3 years away, and they already have an engine, story, settings, and experience with the engine.

lol who cares really. "I beat Crysis on delta" "Prove it!" *shows gamertag* "oh ok your really cool now". I still dont see anything special with achievements. They aren't that signifigant to make it better than online with the PC.
