Actually FPS are my least favorite genre. I mean yeah I do enjoy running around shooting people but honestly after about half an hour it's boring. Turn corner shoot someone, turn other corner shoot again, go around the next corner and wouldn't you beleive it there's someone else to kill. I much rather play an RTS or RPG.

SouljaBoyHater

I take it you haven't played an FPS in recent years.

There's some difficult situations you are put through. For example, Call of Duty 4 has a tree, and you can shoot a bee-hive on that tree to make all the bees attack the soldiers! Just a little example of how there is more to it than "just shooting."

You could also transform into a monkey in Uncharted, did you know that?

RTS: Strategizing isn't fun. You are constantly thinking of what to do next. In FPSs, you get a gun, and you know what to do with it. Occasionally, you duck and cover, but that's where the strategy ends. A game with strategy in mind just isn't much fun at all. I don't play games to think. I play games to beat the crap out of other people.

SouljaBoyHater

So in other words you have a short attention span.

Go ahead and pretend you don't. Everyone does, these days. But I understand how it's cool to pretend you enjoy playing stuff that is supposed to be fun, even though it isn't. Half of the time, you are just working for the fun part. When the fun part comes along, it isn't even worth it.

If everyone was as adverse to mental stimulation as you, there wouldn't be a puzzle genre. Stop lumping everyone into the same category as yourself.

Tell me if you enjoy this:

You are in a room. There are 1100 puzzle pieces. You must fit them together correctly. Of course, this isn't actually challenging. It's all freaking trial and error. Basically, it's either extremely time consuming or you luck out and find it instantly. Oh yeah, so how the hell am I supposed to know that lighting a fire opens a door? (Zelda)

0_o Traditionally, Zelda puzzles are easy as hell to figure out. I mean, it's pretty blatantly obvious that those torches are there for a reason. If you can't figure them out, you must be thick as molasses, and I don't blame you for hating games that make you think.

Also, your example is as ridiculous as your original claims. Puzzle games, as a genre, don't just amount to picture puzzles. It's a genre that deals with problem solving.

you can't impose your opinions on other people. it's not like everyone here is deluding themselves by not liking shooters as much as you do. strategy is actually fun for other poeple, not just an illusion of fun. your opinion does not contradict that.

Answer me this:

There's 10,000 different people in a room. They have an option of either eating poop or ice cream. What do you think the ratio will be?

video games aren't food, nor are they poop. that analogy is not valid.

Well, people like ice cream more than poop, right? All 10,00 would choose the ice cream. It's the same for JRPGs, platformers, fighters, and RTSs. Basically, they are all poop, and no one would really want to play them, but they have to enjoy it to seem hardcore/elite gamers. I game for fun. I don't care what anyone thinks of me as a gamer.

No, you sound pretty mainstream saying that, but it isn't. FPS is basically the American dream, It started with cowboys with no history, and it will end with space marines saying "ooouhaa" a whole lot while swearing and saying stuff that is just plain cheesy.

The issue is, games have little to no creativity in them. I like shooters, but the last good one was Crysis. The irony is most of the best shooters aren't even on consoles.

No, that's what platformers are. Please explain to me some in depth stuff about what else you can do.

Best console graphics. Whatever. Crysis is a PC game, so it doesn't count. Call of Duty 4 is at least in the top five.

SouljaBoyHater

Platformers contain puzzles that challenge you as you progress through the game. It's not just, "Hey look! I see something! Let's grab that and continue on." You have to work for what you get.

By saying what you did, you oversimplified the game, and thus was being contradictory.

And COD4 isn't even in the Top 5. Try again.

[QUOTE="goblaa"]Well that's a load of crap. Hell, the less FPS's the better these days. We're swamped with them.SouljaBoyHater

I admit that we get tons of FPSs. That's true, but we need more... quality ones, like Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3. I could never get into Half Life 2.

I also wouldn't mind another game along the lines of GEARS OF WAR 2!

So you say you love FPSs, but couldn't get into HL2?

I thought maybe they were there for decoration or atmosphere.

There's also some rediculous things. Sometimes fire burns on some webs, but no on others. Zelda games are just trial and error. There isn't any logic of a door opening by fire. Too bad the overly-simplistic, shallow combat doesn't make up for it.

Listen, I don't mean to offend people when I say this, but...

You guys think you are hardcore because you play these extremely slow paced JRPGs or crappy stealth games with incredibly complicated sotrylines that everyone pretends to understand so they can seem smart.

Right.

First person shooters is your favorite genre. Sure, people are different, but most people would rather have ice cream over a bucket of poop, right? First person shooters is the ice cream, while every other genre is the poop. Deep down inside, you know you love first person shooters more than any genre out there. You guys just try to act hardocre by pretending that you like these crazy Japanese anime crap. No, those types of games don't really pick up speed until the mid-way point, and by then, nothing makes sense. Throw in extremely cheesy dialogue and you have yourself a winner.

Now, I'm not just going to post this with baseless claims. I'll give you some reasons why my favorite genre is first person shooters, and why your favorite genre is first person shooters:

RTS: Strategizing isn't fun. You are constantly thinking of what to do next. In FPSs, you get a gun, and you know what to do with it. Occasionally, you duck and cover, but that's where the strategy ends. A game with strategy in mind just isn't much fun at all. I don't play games to think. I play games to beat the crap out of other people.

JRPGs: Long drawn out storylines with extremely slow paced game play.

Fighters: Memorize button combos. That's the game right there.

Platformers: Were only fun back in the day when FPSs sucked. Frustrating to the max and lacking any sort of purpose aside from running around aimlessly wondering what to do next.

I could go on, but you get the point. FPSs, and a few other genres (action adventure), I feel, is the only established genre that is fun. I'd take Turning Point over Super Mario Galaxy every day. The latter is just too kiddy with boring game play. On top of that, it's too easy. Turning Point sucks, but at least I can, you know, actually enjoy what I'm doing.

So in the end, FPSs are hella fun. You can pretend you like exploring and solving puzzles, but it's time to admit it: Zelda is god. Metal Gear Solid is good. Final Fantasy is good. Call of Duty 4... is average.

SouljaBoyHater

 As someone who played cod4 and turnig point demo, i'd rather play smg, which i never played before, over those two games, and this is from someone who love cod4

Sorry, but not really. Only one I can think of that does such a thing is Super Mario Galaxy, which is why it doesn't suck nearly as much as those other collectathons. In Galaxy, you get a basic objective, no other bullcrap collecting, and the obstacles in the way are the challenging part. Bit too kiddy and happy, though. Why can't we have more darker themed platformers?

Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, both Banjo games, and Donkey Kong 64 just have you run around aimlessly collecting things. There aren't many obstacles in the way. Every now and then, there is, but they are few and far between.

I admit it: Galaxy was an achievement in the platformer genre. It's a step up, but could've done a bit more.

1. Crysis

2. Uncharted

3. Call of Duty 4?

What else could possibly go above it? Those are the only games, technically, better than COD4. What am I forgetting?

In RPGs you role play "the game", so "the game" is actually a playble character in most RPGs, but you have to make a real strategy before fighting soulja boy, you know what I mean?

Honestly, that was a great statement. "One man's gold is another man's treasure." I can see what you mean. I guess what I'm saying is how can someone enjoy a slow-paced JRPG or RTS over an intense, action-packed experience? It just doesn't fit the normal teenager, assuming we are all teenagers here.

But you know, if you guys are that serious on the subject, then there may be some truth in what you say. I'd love to actually enjoy a JRPG or RTS, but I can't. Sorry.

I see your IQ of 48 can't handle strategy games. Most people would rather win matches knowing they played with smarts than to play with complete luck.

Is SMG too kiddy for you? Or can you not distunguish between quality and crap? You're awful taste in games speaks volumes only to be used by top of the line Logitech speakers.

About CoD4...........saying that was just downright appaling.

I've seen some ignorant threads but it's threads like these that make SW flooded with complete crap.

You can pretend you like exploring and solving puzzles, but it's time to admit it: Zelda sucks. Metal Gear Solid sucks. Final Fantasy sucks. Call of Duty 4... is legendary.

mo0ksi

I see your IQ of 48 can't handle strategy games. Most people would rather win matches knowing they played with smarts than to play with complete luck.

Is SMG too kiddy for you? Or can you not distunguish between quality and crap? You're awful taste in games speaks volumes only to be used by top of the line Logitech speakers.

About CoD4...........saying that was just downright appaling.

I've seen some ignorant threads but it's threads like these that make SW flooded with complete crap.

I took an IQ test, and they said I'm so super smart that the number was way too high to measure.

Not really, but Charlie Gordon (Flowers for Algernoon) "tedpd klike thsi nd hea idd iq of 68." I think I have at least an 88. So that makes me, like, mildly retarded.

I don't understand why people would want to think that way.

If you only play one genre you are going to get bored of video games really fast. You should experience as many genres as possible and consistently challenge yourself.

God forbid you may just have to think in your game playing. >_>

Gears of War

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

GT: P (Can't believe I'm saying this, but the models are pretty)

There you go. 3 to knock it out of top 5. There are others, but you get the point.

edit: You're 13. Have you even PLAYED those games you're listing?

Ok i'm talking seriously now. you are young and i remember when I was in your age i wanted everything to be about advertising and image, how awesome and perfect it should have been. I wanted every song to have a strong "cool" bass, i want blood everywhere in any movie, and ironically, i wanted games like WW (Windwaker if you don't know, and if you don't know what Windwaker is then play it ASAP) to be remade with realistic graphics. I wanted all the things you probably want right now, to be as "cool and awesome" as possible. Right now though things are exactly the opposite, once you get out of your bubble and start looking into things for what they truly are, and recieve each message with open mindness and patience you will see the true beauty of art, games sports and all the things you just didn't get to understand it's appeal before. You will see how cheesy the world you are in, you will see it's true colors. Never judge a book by it's cover, or else you will miss out on a lot of things that are just....... pure heaven.

I'm not much older than you, i'm 17 going to 18 in 20 days, and i do apologize about my earlier post, but as I said, look into things with a more positive view, don't ignore Riverdance because it's a broadway dance show, don't ignore sweeney todd because it's a musical and don't ignore Galaxy because it's colorful.

The latter is just too kiddy with boring game play. On top of that, it's too easy. Turning Point sucks, but at least I can, you know, actually enjoy what I'm doing.

So in the end, FPSs are hella fun. You can pretend you like exploring and solving puzzles, but it's time to admit it: Zelda sucks. Metal Gear Solid sucks. Final Fantasy sucks. Call of Duty 4... is legendary.

Off the games, hit the books.

And I'm not kidding this time.

He doesnt really have a IQ of 88, he is not being serious.

I hope so.

Gears of War

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

GT: P (Can't believe I'm saying this, but the models are pretty)

There you go. 3 to knock it out of top 5. There are others, but you get the point.

edit: You're 13. Have you even PLAYED those games you're listing?

SouljaBoyHater

Made it easier for you to quote me.

I'm waiting.

Okay, so I am wrong about the top 5. I admit defeat.

Wait, which ones? Crysis and Uncharted? No. Super Mario Galaxy and COD4? Yes.

Banjo Kazooie

Banjo Tooie

Donkey Kong 64
