Im talking about all you deluded cows that said that Sony is worth more than MS in this thread and many other threads. It really shows how smart you cows are, cause I have seen this claim being made in alot of threads by many different cows.

Well cows here is your free lesson look at the little thing called market cap and enterprise value for both companies in both of the links

MS market cap = 301.45 Billion $

MS Enterprise Value = 270.33 Billion $

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=msft

Sony market cap = 52.32 Billion $

Sony Enterprise Value = 56.31 Billion $

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=SNE

PS. Im in no way saying that Bill Gates can buy Sony like the stupid lemming that started the thread

Its stupid to compare the entire companies as a whole, Microsoft makes OS and plenty of software, Sony also makes TVs, DVD players, HiFi's etc

If you want to compare them to one another use Sonys game division and Microsofts Game division, and iam sure its quite close, with Sony's most likely worth more as its been going for longer.

I dont' think anyone was really saying that sony was 'worth more than MS' just that MS is not sitting on a pile of money with nothing to do with it as some seem to picture them. If they did then they probably didn't really think it through too well before they started typing.

However Sony is in my opinion a better diversified company as compared to Microsoft, but that dosn't make them stronger or weaker just stable.

with the exception of their game divisions, sony and MS are for the most part in completely diffrent industries. You cant compare them. The only way you can compare is to compare their gaming divisions, as someone said ealier.

True. I mean if we are trying to compare business as a whole. Microsoft is a mega conglomerate, not to say that Sony isn't. The point is, the arguments should be made amongst the gaming divisions of each company. And the arguments and points have already been made in many different threads.

And they are both in different industries. Microsoft owns various broadcasting stations, create and distribute software and OS, etc etc. Sony creates more actual consumer goods. There is a difference.

Sony has to spend a lot more to get the same amount of money back. T.Vs probably cost them $150 to make, where as MS probably spends $0.10 for one CD for software. Its not that surprising that they have more.

DX-80, your numbers are pretty right on and you seem to knowyoureconomic analysis. Now, NobuoMusicMa..., if Sony's buildings were reallyworth a trillion dollars, wouldn't you think that Sony would be in the real estate industry and not the tech industry? And if their buildings are are truly worth a trillion dollars (which I very much highly doubt), wouldn't you think that Sony would include the buildings on their balance sheet as assets?

A trillion dollars in assets is a lot of money. In appreciation alone it would generate anywhere between $50-$200 billion dollars a year. The next time you speak, make absolutely sure that you know what you're talking about before you make a fool out of yourself.

He's just saying Sony has a lot more physical capital. Which is definitely true. MS has loads of cash but Sony has huge factories and research facilities.

They're both huge companies. MS makes like 50billion a year with 12billion profit. Sony makes like 60 billion a year with 1-2 billion profit.

TC, you realize that we're talking game divisions and not the company as a whole...right? You lems gotta realize that a corporation is not just one big comglomorate; it's many corporations operating under a known name. If you know your history, you'd know the SEC was founded in part because of this. Parent subsidiary laws are another consideration here. MS gaming is under MS but it's own separate corporation.

YOu are forgeting that sony has a p/e of 55.23. Meaning that the company will have very huge growth soon. It will be impossible for microsoft to buy out sony due to this.

If it's truely worth what you are saying (again, I highly doubt it), their assests would be mentioned in the same breath as their business... unfortunately, that's not the case. For example, if you are holding just 1 trillion dollars, usually when you introduce your product to any consumer, the first sentence in any trade show would be "I am worth 1 trillion dollars." I have never heard of Sony mentioning that they are worth 1 trillion dollars, lead alone you used the word in plural form. Log on to Citibank or Merryll lynch and sure enough the first thing you will see is "1(or more)trillion dollars." It's like if I were dating Jessica Beil. Do you think the first thing you will see on my website is a picture of Jessica Beil? Hell no, it'd be a picture of me having my way with Jessica Beil.

Setting fanboys and gaming divisions and all that sub stuff apart lets just talk about the companies themselves. If you had to choose to be aCEO of Sony or Microsoft which would you choose? If Sony were to disappear tomorrow they would not be missed due to their rivals. Gaming (not as good though) would be covered by Nintendo & Electrical goods and formats by Samsung, Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba etc... Now if MS disappeared there only rival is Apple. There are alot more MS users than Apple though.

Worth does not equal "market cap." Market Cap is one way to value a company. Another is book value. Which are hard assets, not market valuation.Don't we all remember from the Tech Bubble from earlier this decade where AOL was worth enough in market cap to buy out Time Warner. Pets.com? Webvan? Etc.

Book Value of MSFT: 35 Billion
Book Value of SNE: 27.48 billion. MS is still worth more this way, but there isn't as much of a discrepancy.

1. MS currently enjoys #1 in next-gen sales for hardware and software.

2. MS, in about 9 months, has taken 12% of the market away from apple, according to estimates.

Sony is being dethroned this gen. You should learn to accept that.

how is number 2 happening. ps2 brings in more money then the 360 ever will sony aint got to worry about anything

and companies don't just buy each other out like fish swallowing each other upin a pond. mergers and byouts are mutual deals (though one company may be way better off, bothparties must agree, like terms of surrender)all that I have ever said is that Sony is too big for MS to chew, let alone swallow. Think about the physical capital needed to produce three different playstations at full capacity alonside thousands of other physical products. profitability and market value are something else entirely.

you cows are funny cause now that I have proved you wrong with substantial information, you mention game division only? haha In the thraed that I mentioned (the one where the lemming said gates could buy sony) and in others I always see deluded cows saying Sony is worth more than Microsoft. You guys had never mentioned this gaming division talk before. The point is not all but definitely a lot of cows would think and say that sony corp is worth more than ms, without having a freakin' clue what they where talking about. Yes sony may have more factories and thats becuase they need them retards, they are mainly a freaking electronics company, ms on the other hand is mainly software. also in some thread im not sure if it was in this one, some idiot cow said something along the lines of "sony has more employees" that doesnt mean they are more profitable, the more employees a company has only means more costs for a company since you have more salaries to pay! Unless most employees work for 0.25 $ and hour in a thrid world country.

now if you cows want to talk about gaming divisions fine go ahead. I dont really care aslong as you dont make claims that make most readers of this forum even more stupid than what they already are.

I don't care about worth or market value. in terms of size, Sony is bigger, that's all that I want people to accept as fact. MS has greater returns from software because it is cheap to produce and is valuable to consumers. Sony is less profitable but exetremely stable in the market. they can't have as much return from producing somany physical goods.

you cows are funny cause now that I have proved you wrong with substantial information, you mention game division only? haha In the thraed that I mentioned (the one where the lemming said gates could buy sony) and in others I always see deluded cows saying Sony is worth more than Microsoft.

I never said any of those things you mentioned but I do think we should only be concerned with the gaming divisions of these companies, seeing as the gaming division doesn't have as deep of pockets as the company they've branched from. And even if sony or MS make a ton of money selling tvs or OSs this has little to do with the gaming divisions of the companies, if the gaming division do nothing but lose money for the corporation you bet they'll eventually be terminated.

yes M$ as a company is worth a lot more than Sony. Yes they make a lot more money. But really who didn't already know this and who actually cares about stuff like this. Its not like you are getting any of this money.

In terms of size, Sony isn't "bigger". Capital such as land and building are smack bang in their balance sheet.

Why anyone even cares, however, is another matter all together.

BlindCow wont accept defeat!!.....

I have never been called a cow before because I am not. You are way off the mark my friend. could MS produce xbox 1s as well as 3 different 360s,while producing their own line of laptops, TVs, phones, speaker systems, and digital cameras? no, because they don't have as much physical capital for producing goods. that is what I am saying. my eyes are open, and you are looking for something to fight about.

[QUOTE="NobuoMusicMaker"]

Market Worth =/= Total Value

Rob2223

 cows

how about Net income per year?

Microsoft: 12.6 Billion

Sony: 1.042 Billion

Microsoft is a much bigger, and more powerful company. get over it.

Sony's competition in electronics? Samsung, Sharp, Mistubishi, Panasonic, LG, Apple, etc., etc.

Microsoft competition in OS? Apple, ?Linux?

Apple probably only has 5% or even less than Microsoft. Microsoft sells their OS at **** prices.

Sony's competition is huge and they probably don't even have a third of their electronics market. Yet they are the biggest but nothing like the profits Microsoft make.

So in conclusion, Net Income =/= Total Value.

Well, Im glad Im the first to call you a cow, cause you sure are, reading most of your posts. Second, how in the hell MS cannot afford to make Digital Cameras, TVs, Phones, Speakers....lol, they pretty much got everyone monopolized on everything that operates on a computer, that would be just greed to compete in every aspect with all brands. They got tons of money to invest in diffrent fields, Bill gates is the seconds most richest man on the planet, so you think his franchise is not able todo that and more?, Third, Im not getting a penny for defending microsoft and saying they are richer, so I will not comment anymoreon this cause this is just silly, but what bothers me iscows ignorance towards reality.
