Why ?

Are you overweight and/or obese?

Was it the hoola-hooping or soccer headbutting?

Or maybe it was the BMI? (which is obtained for free online)

I honestly can not discern why anyone would buy it.

EDIT: To those who reply with exercise, and are attempting to be serious about losing weight, they will be disappointed with Wii Fit, sorry.

Also, gamers don't tend to be in the best of shape. WiiFit smoothly smoothly combines excercise and gaming to get some of us fat/skinny nerds off our asses.

Edit: And no, I'm not buying WiiFit, although I should.

Cause i'd like to try something new. I'd rather try out something with a brand new concept, then play ANOTHER shooter, ANOTHER rpg, ANOTHER adventure game

People always hatin on things for no apparent reason. If you dont like it, thats your opinion. Why does everyone gotta go around saying "this game sucks dont buy it", Gears of War and Resistence suck major ass, I see you have no problem playing those, did you?

Those people in question could just get out of the house for once and run.

Well, I'll first try it out before deciding if I want to get it or not. Alot of my friends want it, so I'll just try it at their house's.

But, if I do decide to get it...I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it will be because I found it to be fun.

I think the main factor for me is that like Wii Sports, it is more then justa game and actually makes players get up off the couch and interacting. Also it looks like a lot of fun, plain and simple.

Why buy a Wii then? You get excersize when you move the Wiimote in certain games, gets you more active and all.

I play Wii Tennis and Baseball lying down on my side. The other three are definitely easier standing up, though.

I'm still on the fence with Wii Fit... I do need the exercise and the motivation, but I'm not sure if a videogame can help. It's a great idea, though, and I hope Nintendo finds success.

Not sure, still baffles me as to why so many Nintendo core fans want this product. Its clearly not a traditional game, and I honestly don't see any fun in doing step aerobics or yoga.

But hey, I'm sure theres something they know about it that I don't, so who knows :( I know for a fact that I wont be buying it considering how many other games I need to pick up for the PC and xbox 360.

I didn't buy the Wii to exercise....and anyone who is buying this (or the Wii in general) for that purpose and is (or is trying to be)serious about exercising or losing weight is sadly mistaken.

Why not?

It makes exercise more interactive.

I'm not overweight, but there seems to be a misconception that some of you have about exercise. I don't exercise to lose weight, but to stay healthy. Many exercises require precision in weight distribution, and as you get older, weight distribution plays a larger role in everyday aches and pains.

I'll get WiiFit because it will make the daily routine of exercise more entertaining and rewarding alongside my wife.

If you're going to question why people want WiiFit, you should question why people want to play games at all. You can just use your imagination, right?

Right?

Maybe a recycling game? Everyone's obsessed with saving the environment all of a sudden.

@tidus: BMI is used in any kind of fitness training. There's a big difference between 6'0 200lbs and 5'0 200lbs.

I'm not decided yet, but if I do pick it up its just to vary my workout; treadmills and weights get boring fast and I don't plan on going outside when its -20C.

Oh and kind of OT but BMI is a terrible indication of your fitness level and overall health.

What? No. BMI measures how healthy the weight is for someone of a certain height and weight. If you just measure their weight without looking at them, you could still imagine them being fat rather than muscular. I don't see your point.

He's right though,......those guys would all be considered obese based on the BMI Index

BMI Index is not the preferred tool, and it is better than just weighing yourself of course. But body fat more is better than the both of them combined. It's what really means something compared to the other two.

Sounds like fun and my wife and I can play it together and compare BMI loss. I'm not terribly overweight by any means but it would be fun to loose a few pounds with it and see whose BMI drops the most.

Tennis, outside, in the court is fun. Wii Tennis isn't and can be done lying down on the cough and a slight flick of the finger.

Now this plastic board is a peripheral, which means no dev has to support it. It's not standard and will be limited only to the people who buy it. No dev will waste money making something for a niche market when Wii is definitely a casual mass market system.

Crappy games for the Wii to as many people as they can sell it to, awesome games for the 360 and PS3.

That's how it works.

have you ever heard of body fat percentage???

a 5'9 180 pound guy at 10% bodyfat is alot more healthy than 1 5'9 180 pound guy with 18% BF

BMI would group them the same and that is why it fails

It's all relitive. If your a body builder and are in tremendious shape then honestly you don't need WiiFit to tell you that. On top of that it's all about what your BMI is and how it changes over time. If you have a lot of mustle but still have some belly WiiFit would still help you. You take a baseline BMI mesurement and as you loose weight it will drop plain and simple.

We did this in my Bio class back when I was in grade 11. Me (at the time 17, 6'1 and 205lbs and in damn good shape) came out at a 26 or 27 (overweight) and my teacher, at around 35 6' and 180 (can't remember exactly but it was around those numbers) was well into the 30's, which is considered obese, and the guy was anything but. The BMI scale is broken.

No one cares about "how it can be done", it's how it's suppose to be done. I can make my own rules about Tennis and say you use your feet instead of a racket and claim it's murder on your body.

OH most definitely....but I would say most people that are on a videogame forum and actively participate are not casual. And I have seen numerous people say they plan on picking it up....which is why I made the thread.

*sigh* Ahhdiscussions of BMI, Weight, and BodyFat Percentages.....What have you done Wii!!?/? lol

The BMI scale is broken.

Again it doesn't really matter what the number is it's how it changes. If you get a 50 bmi the first time and then over the next 6 weeks you take it down to a 30 then you have done some real improvement. Similarly if you get a 30 and you take it down to a 20 then you have probably done just as good. The actual BMI number you get isn't as important as tracking the change.

[QUOTE="jetthrovegas"]I hope Jeff reviews WiiFit... :lol:Overthrow

Boy, does he need it. He'd probably slaughter it in the review, though.

Overthrow, your icon is the funniest I've ever seen. No joke.

[QUOTE="PBSnipes"][QUOTE="Overthrow"]What? No. BMI measures how healthy the weight is for someone of a certain height and weight. If you just measure their weight without looking at them, you could still imagine them being fat rather than muscular. I don't see your point.Firelore29

Well BMI is not only tracking change.....the number (as PBSnipes said) does have meaning....Underweight, Normal Weight, Overweight, and Obese. If you choose not to look at the meaning of the number given, and just focus on BMI gain/loss it will still be a poor measurement. Becuase for example.......Your not gonna grow any taller, but if you begin to eat healthy/exercise or whatever and begin to lose fat and gain muscle, you will actually gain weight. This will in fact make your BMI rise and appear that you are not doing good, when in fact you are actually doing great! This is why body fat means so much more than anything else and why BMI is inherently a poor system for Wii Fit to go by, and why Wii Fit is"broken" to begin with. They should have implemented sensors in the Wii Fit Board (like many scales have nowadays) that not only can calculate BMI but body fat as well.

I wonder what he'd look like playing it on the couch like he did Wii Sports.
